"Hey, B'vin!" D'ren said as he neared the greenrider. None of their other friends seemed to have arrived yet. "It looks like we're early."
B'vin just shrugged, "I think it's more likely they're just late." It didn't matter to him, he didn't have anything else to do tonight. The bronzerider set down his plate. "I guess we have each other for company until they show up, then."
"Looks like it." B'vin agreed as he took a bite of tubers. He hadn't been planning on dining with others today, he'd _planned_ on wallowing in his weyr again, but when D'ren and the others had met him in the corridor and invited him to dinner, he had reflexively accepted. It was kind of nice to know that other people were interested in his company and didn't just tolerate him because of his friendship with D'cal. "So how have you been?" D'ren found B'vin a bit hard to be around. The greenrider always seemed so quiet and withdrawn. "Fine." he said simply. No need to involve others in the misery that was his life, "And you?" "I'm good," D'ren replied, wondering what he could do to get a conversation out of him. "And how is Serenth?
"Fine." Now that she had risen to mate, she appeared to be one hundered percent healed from her threadfall injury in fact. "Menanth and you seem to be adjusting well to Cyclone Wing."
The bronzerider nodded. "Everyone's been very helpful about getting me settled in. It helps that I don't have J'darin for a Wingleader." He stuck out his tongue. "Poor D'cal."
While he wasn't in the mood to feel sympathy for D'cal at the moment, he didn't wish J'darin on anyone. "He only has to put up with him until another bronze flies the queen."
"That's true," he agreed. He hoped the Queen would make a different choice the next time she Rose. "You never know," B'vin said as he took another bite of his tubers and then pointed his fork at the bronzerider, "it could be yours. Then _you_ would be Weyrleader."
D'ren laughed and shook his head. "I'm way too young for that! Maybe in another ten turns I might have a chance."
B'vin shrugged, "It's whatever bronze the queen wants. If you think you should be disqualified because of your age, then J'darin should have been disqualified because of his personality!"
D'ren laughed harder this time. "You're right about that. But at least he can lead the Weyr in Fall. That I can't do."
"Fine," B'vin said, starting to get annoyed, "Don't even _think_ about it or _try_ to prepare yourself. End up like O'dan for all I care." "Don't say that," D'ren said darkly. He never wanted to be compared to the former Weyrleader. "If I had to, I'd get someone else to lead Fall.
Someone with more experience. B'vin, Menanth and I are barely out of _weyrlinghood_. We haven't had time to prepare."
B'vin gave up, this bronzeboy obviously had his head in the clouds, and he wouldn't know responsibility if it flew in his face. "Like I said, I don't care. I've got to get going. Tell everyone I said hi." D'ren sighed. Why did B'vin have to make everything so difficult? "Alright. I'll see you around."
