Rizona smiled as the large canine came bounding up to her. "Well, hello there," she said softly. She reached out a hand and lightly patted him on the head.

"Hello there," a young weyrling grinned as he ran up the beach after his wayward pet. "Sorry about Adori. She just loves meeting new people."

Rizona smiled shyly and looked down. "I...I like canines. They're so devoted."

"This one especially," Sh'vair grinned as she patted the head of his black canine. "And not nearly as hard to wash as a dragon."

"I am Rizona...I'm new here. I guess...I mean I am a candidate."

"Oh, well then, you'll be washing dragons soon enough." It seemed to be the favorite chore for candidates - washing the dragons of those who were too busy, too old, or too injured to wash their own. It was good practice at using those muscles after all. They'd need them if they ever Impress.

"I met a dragon. I mean, the dragon who Searched me. I haven't...I was raised in a small hold. I'm not used to dragons, really." Rizona twisted her hands nervously. She wasn't really used to talking to men, but she wanted to try.

"Well, you'll get used to them pretty quickly here. You can't escape them." Sh'vair sank down next to her. Pointing to a blue frolicking in the waves he grinned, "that's my Nidogath."

Rizona gasped. "Dragons swim?!"

"Sure they do. They love it," Sh'vair laighed.

}:I feel so light in the water,:{ Nidogath confirmed. His lifemate passed along the observation.

"Oh, you mean, he said that? I didn't know dragons...well...I don't know much about dragons at all. I um, come from a very small hold." Rizona gazed at the frolicking blue in rapt amazement.

"Dragons have likes and dislikes, same as we do. I think you'll find we're very similar. They even flirt with each other." Sh'vair suddenly turned slightly pink, realizing how that might have sounded. He hoped she didn't think he was trying to flirt with her just then...

"They do? I guess I have a lot to learn about dragons..." Her voice trailed off.

"You'll have plenty of time to learn all you need to know."

"They said there would be classes. Um, how long is it until the Hatching?"

"No one knows," Sh'vair shrugged. "When they are ready, I suppose.
Shouldn't be too much longer, I'm sure."

"Oh. I, haven't really learned much yet. There is so much to take in!"

"Is there?" Sh'vair shrugged. "I guess so. I never knew anywhere but here. I was raised with dragons as my neighbors."

"Oh, when you come from a hold, especially a small hold like mine, you never really know much about dragons. Maybe it is different for the men, I'm not sure."

"Oh, so it was one of _those_ Holds, eh?" Sh'vair asked knowingly.

"What do you mean, one of those Holds?"

"One of those Holds that don't tell you everything you should know about the world," Sh'vair shrugged.

"Oh. I knew everything I needed to know to be a wife and mother. Things changed though, when I got Searched."

"That they did," Sh'vair nodded thoughtfully. There probably wouldn't be much call for her to need to know much about being a wife _or_ a mother if she Impressed... "So, do you want to meet Nidogath?"

Rizona grinned. "I'd love to!"

"Well then, come along," he grinned offering her his hand to help her up. Sh'vair never got tired of showing off his beautiful blue.
