"I shouldn't have worn yellow. It really didn't look that flattering on me, did it," Honalyse sighed as she picked up the wrinkled dress from the living area floor. "And the wine spilled on it just stands out all the more."
"Well, it looks fine on the floor of my weyr," he replied, not bothering to move from the bed. He had his hands laced together behind his head, and was watching her bustle around with a little annoyance. If she was going to be up and energetic so sharding early, she could at _least_ be in the bed and being energetic in a more pleasant way.
She laid it over the back of the chair and began gathering his clothes into the clothes hamper. "Do you think the laundry will be open today? Well, probably not. Even they get a day off, I suppose."
J'lai snorted. "Since it is a day off, what are you doing out of bed anyway?"
"I'm just tidying up a bit," she shrugged. Honalyse liked doing little things for people. It was a way to show them she cared. And then they might even show _her_ they cared... "Do you want me to get us some breakfast? I can run down to the kitchens and find us some breakfast. You must be hungry after last night."
"No, I want you to come back to bed." J'lai lifted an eyebrow and grinned at her lazily. "Or are you hoping I'll come over there and drag you back? Naughty girl."
"Well, I suppose the clothes can wait," she shrugged, a lazy smile crossing her lips. "But are you sure you're not hungry? I can get something really quick. And then we wouldn't have to leave all day. Unless you want to of course."
The bronzerider kicked the blankets off the bed and rose to his feet, stalking towards her with a dangerous glint in his eyes. "I already told you what I want."
"Well, you know I was just asking." She dropped the clothes at a heap at her feet and placed her hands on the small of her back. Honalyse looked down at his tense shoulders, not quite sure if she should look him straight in the eye. She wasn't sure how to take his moods sometimes. J'lai slid one large hand around her back, trapping both of her hands easily. "You're going to have to learn to take orders better than that if you want to be a dragonrider." He pressed her body against his, leaning down until his mouth brushed her ear. "I told you I'd take care of you, but you need to learn what I teach you." And if she hadn't proved so willing to do _anything_ he wanted thus far, he would have gotten rid of her long before now.
"I'm a quick learner," she whispered breathlessly, a chill running down her spine. J'lai truly scared her sometimes, others he could act like she didn't exist at all. But sometimes he would turn his full attention on her and as frightening as it could be, it could also make her weak in the knees.
"Are you?" He released her hands suddenly and pulled back from her. "Go get into bed, Honalyse." "All right, J'lai. I'm going." Shards, he could be so moody in the morning! But he really could be sweet sometimes. She knew not everyone could see it, but she did. And because of those moments, she obeyed and moved over to the bed and crawled under the sheets, not sure which J'lai would be joining her there.
J'lai watched her for a moment, not sure if he was pleased or annoyed that she was so sharding obedient. Her endless chatter and neediness drove him mad, but he couldn't seem to be mean enough to drive her away.
Not that he'd put any real effort into it yet... snapping at her or intimidating her always resulted in such a pleasantly willing bed partner that it was hard to throw her out. After all, she certainly had her moments. And now that she was in his bed and had stopped talking, he found himself in a far more agreeable mood. He slid into bed next to her and wrapped one long arm around her waist, pulling her to him. "See? That wasn't so hard, was it?"
"No, not at all," smiled, snuggling into his side. This was the J'lai she liked.
