How Have You Been?

Writers: Cali, Patrick

Characters: B'lamick, I'poro
Description: Belamick arrives at the Weyr and finds an old friend.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 4 of Turn 4

Belamick folded his pants neatly into his drawer. He had come prepared to stay, so he had brought most of his clothes, including his new gather tunic his father had bought for him. He wondered if he would have an opportunity to wear it at the weyr, but was distracted from further concern by a group of candidates entering the barracks. "Ioporol?" Belamick asked hopefully as he stood up next to his bed.

"Belamick?" some of the candidates grinned, Ioporol sounded exactly like his friend. "When did you get Searched?" Ioporol tried to sound nonchalant, but this was a complication he hadn't expected at the weyr.

Grinning, Belamick closed the space between them and embraced his friend. "I just got here today." he explained as he pulled away.

Ioporol's embrace was just as strong, but not entirely assured. He held his friend at arms length, looking him from head to toe. "That's great! You're going to stand at the next Hatching?" Ioporol already new the answer, but he had to ask, had to know. He'd learned so much at the weyr, and if Belamick was willing, he'd be happy to show his friends the ropes.

"Yeah," He couldn't stop grinning, he'd missed his friend _so_ much. "How have you been? All I got was the one letter..." Not that he had been any better, writing had just not been the same for the young man.

"I know, but life here is just so interesting." He sighed in pleasure. "It's hard to put into words." He looked at his friend. "But its hard work too. I don't think I've ever been so tired at night. Definitely more work than at the Hall. But its worth it, if you Impress."

"Which I plan to!" Belamick asserted. "And I'd have figured you would have already gotten yourself a big bronze by now, or were you just waiting for me to show up so you could gloat?"

Ioporol laughed weakly. "I don't know about bronze. I'm not good enough for that. Brown maybe." **More likely blue though.** He added to himself silently.

"Now don't sell yourself short," his friend chided, but added with a wink, "but if you've got your heart set on brown, I won't stop you. It just leaves more bronzes for me!"

"I'm sure it will." Belamick was such a better choice for bronze. He was strong, handsome, and sure of himself, everything Ioporol wasn't. "You'll definitely make bronze, and on your first try too." He smiled warmly, at his friend, while his brain rolled with self doubt, all those thoughts that he was _wrong_
were returning a hundred fold.

Belamick walked with his friend back towards his cot. "As long as we impress together I don't really care when or what color." He shoved his half emptied clothes bag under his cot and closed his drawer making sure this area was tidy. "Come on, give me the grand tour will you?"

"Sure." Ioporol grabbed his friends arm and began to lead him from the Barracks. "Our first stop is the Kitchen."
