Waiting

Writers: Anwen, Cali
Date Posted: 6th December 2006

Characters: Maiz, Arilanna, Yarzel
Description: The two women chat while waiting for the tanner's shop to open.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 12 of Turn 4

"Hmmm, is the Tanner not open yet this morning?" Arilanna asked of the girl in front of her as she peered at the darkened shop. "Apparently not," Maiz agreed. "I've been waiting a little while hoping someone will show up, but no one has thus far."

"Well, Yarsel's a new father, so I can forgive a bit of lateness." she replied with a grin. "I guess I'll just wait around a bit longer, if he doesn't show up I can always send an apprentice over later." Maiz frowned. "I was really hoping to get him today."

Arilanna noticed the dragonrider knots on her sleeve, "Are you needing something for drills?"

"I need new boots," Maiz explained. "Mine seem to have developed a rather large hole in them somehow. Its not really too urgent though, I guess..."

She looked down at the dragonrider's feet and frowned.
"Oh... you get your boots from Yarsel?" the question was laced with pity. "I love the man to pieces, but he really is awful for women's boots. You being a dragonrider, you should really make the trip out to Opal Cove Hold and see Journeyman Kinzik. He knows just how women's feet work, and I've been going to him for turns now." "Thanks for the advice," Maiz said. "I'm fairly new around here, so it is very helpful to know who is good at what!"

"No problem." Arilanna said with a smile. "The best thing about Yarsel are his colors. He can make the most vibrant blues and greens."

"Green or blue boots?" Maiz wrinkled her nose. "I think I'm perfectly content with plain old brown ones."

Arilanna laughed, "No... not boots, other things. Like my satchel!" She took the bag off her shoulder and displayed it for the rider. See how pretty it is."

Maiz fingered the soft, vibrantly colored leather.
"It's very nice. That's some of his work?"

"Uh, huh. And see the buckles here?" she pointed out the delicate flower shapes adorning the metal buckles on each side, "His wife makes those." "They're beautiful!" Maiz exclaimed. "I wonder if she could do dragons? I'd love a green bag with dragon buckles."

Arilanna considered it for a moment, "Hmmm, I don't know why not, I've seen some..." "Morning ladies." Yarzel interupted with a sleepy grin as he walked past them to unlock the door. "Sorry to keep you waiting." Maiz glanced at Arilanna and smiled. "No problem," she told the tanner. "I just wanted to come in and talk to you about maybe getting a bag..."
