"Shards, hon," Cinale smiled shakily at Miryene as she came up behind her to help her with her wedding dress. "Should I really be this nervous? It can't be healthy, can it?"
"Maybe not, but it's normal." Miryene gathered Cinale's hair up and moved it over her shoulder so she could fasten the back of her dress. "I should know, after all."
Yes...she would. "Do you have any advice, Miryene?"
Miryene smiled ruefully as she fixed the last fastening. "Do you really want to be asking _me_ for advice? I'm not even thirty yet and am on my third husband."
"Oh, hon... But I trust you."
"Then I only have one piece of advice." Miryene turned Cinale around to face her and let her hands rest on her friend's shoulder. "Let Daigoro love you the way you deserve to be loved. I know he will. Just trust him and everything will be fine."
The cook looked into the younger woman's eyes for a moment before nodding.
"I do trust him. I wouldn't be marrying him if, in my heart, I didn't." Then Cinale blushed a little. "And what about...well, tonight? Shells, I feel absolutely foolish for asking, and it probably seems so trivial compared to the lifelong advice you just gave but... Shards, hon, what does a woman do?"
Miryene studied Cinale for a moment, chewing on her lower lip. "You haven't ever snuck behind a building with a boy? _Ever_?" Maybe it hadn't been exactly proper, but she and Ivenn had stolen enough kisses that Miryene had been far more excited for her wedding night than she had been nervous.
Cinale's cheeks turned an interesting shade of red. "Of course I have."
With Daigoro, in fact. "But...it's just... Well. Kissing isn't the same as...everything else."
"If the kissing is good enough, you won't be worried when that time comes," Miryene replied with a teasing smile. "How _were_ the kisses, by the way? Apparently good enough that you didn't hear any apprentices sneaking up on you."
She groaned. "Not you too!" Shards and shells. Wasn't there _anyone_
left in this Hall who hadn't heard about that?
Miryene laughed. "I don't think you're going to have anything to worry about, dear."
Unable to keep the blush and the girlish grin from her lips, Cinale hugged her friend. "Thank you, hon."
"Of course, sweetheart." Miryene hugged her back, holding her as tightly as she could without wrinkling her gown. "Now let's finish getting you ready. Daigoro will be upset if I make you late!"
Dutifully Cinale turned around, lifting her arms as Miryene arranged the folds of her sleeves, wondering--with a happy smile--if Daigoro was ready.
