"Ah, Harper. Thank you for coming," the Lord Holder nodded. "Please take a seat."
"Thank you sir." Faran said as he settled into one of the chairs before the Lords desk. "Your message siad you wished to talk about Turns End?"
"Yes," Benaroy nodded. "I wanted to talk to you about music for the festivities."
"Ah, well then sir I was just finishing up my plans when you called. I brought with me some samples of the music." Faran pulled some sheet music from a folder.
"I thought we'd start off first with a string quartet as the festivities started and people arrived.
While the Gather is going on we continue with light music, good to listen to, but bad for dancing." The Harper handed each piece of music to his Lord as he explained it. "Then once the food is brought out and everyone eating, we change it to something a bit more lively." He handed Benaroy another piece. "This just came in from the Harper Hall. It's to be used specifically for Turn's End." Faran smiled at the new music.
"Then we have the traditional dance for you and your partner to open the floor. And then we do all the traditional dances, plus some new ones, with some new pieces and solos in between for breaks." Faran pasted the last pieces of music to Benaroy.
"I have a few apprentices who would like a chance to perform in front of an Audience, the children and I have been planning a special piece." He smiled at the young ones enthusiasm. "Once I had your approval, I was going to pull up the official schedule." Faran took a deep breath. "I planned on sending Kio to the Hall to request some more players for the day's festivities and dancing, my current Journeymen and I can't play all day." Faran smiled at the thought, how he wished he could play all day, but his body would protest to much the next day, especially his throat.
"And that's mostly what I plan to do. Your thoughts sir?" He always left it open to the person he was entertaining to have a say in his plans, it made for happier people all around.
"Well, of course the Hall will send us more Harpers for playing the dance sets if nothing else. But do you have any _special_ music planned?" Benaroy could tell this was Faran's first time organizing a Turns End by himself.
"Special, sir? I have some new work from the Hall planned, and some of that is very special, but I have a feeling that's not what your implying sir." Faran was at a loss, what could _that_ mean? _Special_? What in Faranths name did he mean by _special_? All those thoughts and more swirled in Faran's head as he waited for Benaroy.
Benaroy reminded himself to be patient. It was the boy's first Turns End to plan. "Something other than just dance music. Maybe a vocal or instrumental performance or two? Something to give us a break from dancing and we can sing along, or something to inspire hope and enthusiasm for the coming Turn."
"Oh yes, I'd planned on that. The younger students, a few of the mothers, and myself have something planned. I have a few Apprentices and some older students who want to do something. There are some occasional pieces from the Hall that I plan on putting in." Faran looked up from his notes at his Lord.
"And I put up a sheet in the Great Hall for those who want a chance to sing or play. I'll be taking that piece down later today and posting up a schedule for the people to meet with me. We don't want people with no talent on the stage."
"Why not? People with no talent want to be heard too.
Why not have a showcase of Holders? Regardless of talent?" Benaroy suggested. "I think the people would enjoy having the chance to see their friends and neighbors perform, and sometimes the people with the least amount of talent have the most amount of heart."
"A good point sir, I hadn't thought of that. What a great way to inspire togetherness and hope after... in these troubled times." Faran still could not bring himself to say, 'after the earthquake'. It was still too painful. With a burst from /between/ Faran's bronze firelizard Kio burst into the room, his eyes swirling with concern and worry for his owner.
"Kio!" Faran unconsciously raised an arm for the flit to alight on. The miniature bronze lowered himself onto Faran's arm, his eyes whirling slower with each moment he was handled. "I'm so sorry for this sir, I told him to wait outside." Kio just looked from one man to the other, his eyes slowing down now that Faran was past his pain, and chirped defiantly.
"As long as he behaves himself," the Lord Holder said with only the slightest frown. He didn't have a flit himself, and he could find their antics both amusing and annoying at times, but sometimes he had found that they came in handy and their usefulness far outweighed the trouble. "So as we were saying, it would be good not to turn anyone who wishes to perform away. An early evening showcase of talent, or at least aspirations, would be entertaining, I think." "Your absolutely right sir. I'm sad to admit I hadn't thought of that. So if that's all sir I believe I have a Turn's End to plan." Faran stood as he said this, bowing slightly to his Lord, Kio calm for once on his shoulder.
"Yes, let's speak of this again next sevenday, shall we?" The Lord Holder's mind was already turning towards other matters of concern.
"Yes sir. I'll see you in a week." Faran smiled at his lord as he left the office. Things were definitely different here than at the Hall.
