Faran looked up from his hidework. It had been such a nice day that he had taken it outside. Kio, his flit, came flying at him at top speed. The little bronze hooked his wing around Faran's neck and landed clumsily, a large brush with what looked like runner hair fell onto his hides.

The weather being so nice, Lymria had taken the children out to play. She let Torgny practice riding with her runner and brush her. But the bronze flit appeared and started annoy Nona. The old mare was patient and gentle but definitely didn't like her hair pulled off.
Lymria shooed him off and then followed to see who it belonged to.

Faran was berating Kio, holding the flits head so he could talk to it in the eyes, when the woman walked up. Faran held up the erring brush, the hair still on it. "Is this yours?"

"Yes, it is, thank you. And is that thieving flit yours?" Lymria replied and asked, softening her words with a smile.

"Unfortunately. The little guys seems to like things much to much." Faran smiled slightly as he pet the bronze flits head. "But I wouldn't trade him for the world. So, is that runner hair he gave me?" he asked looking at the brush in Lymria's hand.

"Yes, and my runner was highly annoyed losing it,"
Lymria said, still smiling.

"Well allow me to apologize for your runner," Faran executed a slight bow after he stood up. ",if you'll pass along the message. I'm Faran, Journeyman Harper.
And I'm afraid I missed your name." Faran smiled to take away the sting of his forgetfulness. So many new faces since the earthquake.

"I'll forward your apology to her. I'm sure she accepts it. I'm Lymria, a fostermother," she replied and introduced herself.

"A pleasure to meet you Lymria," Faran offered his hand. Kio chirruped happily from his perch on Faran's shoulder, his eyes portraying his glee at his owners attempt at meeting people. Faran had refused to meet anyone outside of appointments since the quake, even if they had pent their entire lives at Amber Hills.

"It really is a pleasure." Faran smiled again. "I haven't done this in such a long time. Not since the quake..." his eyes welled up with sorrow momentarily before the pain was repressed by his calm outside demeanor.

"I know," Lymria said softly. "It was really horrible.
I was lucky to survive without an injury. The children I foster lost their parents there."

"I..." it took Faran a moment to allow himself to continue. "lost everyone. Except my sister, Saria.
When my parents died... the two of us sent all my younger sisters... to... live with my aunt." He didn't know why he was telling her this, he barely knew her. Yet he found himself pouring his feelings out. He had kept his composure when Saria and himself had found out the terrible news, staying strong for his sister. But she wasn't here now, and the pain just had to break free.

Faran tried in vain to hold himself together, he was in public, not a place for a Harper to break down.
But the tears came, and when Kio crooned comfortingly like he had to Saria that awful night, his pain finally broke loose. He collapsed in a heap on the ground, the raking sobs shaking his lean frame.

Lymria was bit surprised but then just crouched and wrapped her arms around him. "There, there, it's all right," she murmured, comforting him like he was a small child. Sometimes it was easier to talk and express feelings for a stranger.

Faran's body betrayed him as he shed his sorrow and pain. After awhile the sobs turned to tears and then the tears to heavy breathing. He could feel Lymria's chest rise and fall against the side of his face. He lingered for a moment, gathering himself.

"I'm so sorry, I don't know what came over me." Faran said as he stood up, brushing himself off. He held out a hand courteously to assist her. Though he had let himself loose control like that in public, he felt much better, like a weight had been lifted. "But I thank you Lymria," he said as he pulled the woman up off the ground. "Not many people would get down and comfort an almost complete stranger."

He held her hands a moment longer than was absolutely needed. "Thank you." He said again, letting the relief and gratitude color his words. He felt so much better.

"I hope you feel better now," Lymria replied only.

"I do. But we cannot end this meeting on such a depressing note. Why don't you stop by my office after you drop off your fosterlings, and we can go enjoy some lunch. I suddenly feel famished." Faran bowed low and offered Lymria his hand. "How about it, I ow you that much."

"All right, but only if you promise not to soak my dress again," Lymria said and smiled so that her dimples showed.

"I promise." Faran smiled probably his first real smile in a while. "I'll see you in say, half a candlemark?"

"Sounds like a plan," Lymria agreed.
