"Barlyse, I brought Lena." he told the foster mother who would care for his daughter.
"Oh, my, isn't she a cutie!" the woman smiled as she peered down into the sleeping child's face. "She doesn't seem phased by the ride one bit. A born dragonrider."
"Mabye she is." the bronze smiled at the thought. "I can't belive she has so much hair all ready." the babe had a full head of auburn hair, curlier than her father's.
"Every baby is different," she smiled. "My Kiralyse had black hair covering her head from the day she was born, but my son Barlok was as bald as an Egg."
K'lvin smiled, "She's got her mother's eyes, which is a good thing."
"She is a pretty little dear," Barlyse smiled. "Don't worry, K'lvin, Solokir and I will take good care of her."
"I know you will besides it's not her I'm worried about." he sighed.
"Oh?" she asked, cocking her head and looking up at the bronzerider.
"What are you worried about then?"
"Me, you heard what happened to Talryne."
Barlyse thought a moment before shaking her head. "I'm afraid I don't know Talryne, K'lvin. Was she the child's mother?"
K'lvin shook his head, "A greenrider with Cyan, she lost her dragon last fall."
"Oh, well that is a pity," Barlyse said sadly. Its not the first time that's happened, and probably not the last. "You were close to the girl then?"
"Not really, I'm with Azure, but still. I've worried more and more sceince she was born, what if something happened to me?"
"Than Solokir and I will raise her as best we know how," she reassured him, laying a hand gently on his arm. "If something happens to you, we will raise her as we would one of our own. Don't you worry about that."
"Thank you Barlyse." he held little Lena toward her foster mother, hesitent to let her go.
She took her carefully, smiling down into the tiny, sleeping face.
"Don't worry, K'lvin. We'll all take very good care of your little girl. And you'd be welcome to visit as much as you like."
"Mabye this rest day?" he said hopfully"
"Of course," Balyse smiled. "I'll have her ready and waiting for you.
Why don't you come by the weyr for lunch?"
"I will, thank you for your help." he samiled at his daughter and leaned over to kiss her forhead. He knew she was in good hands.
