"Hello? Anybody in here?" A'ran called loudly, as they walked through the Infirmary. A'ran cursed the fact that it was dinner time, but there had to be somebody still in here. Looking across at his brother he was half supporting, half carrying he was really worried, he wasn't sure if what he was seeing was the result of blood loss or what. Judging from the blood seeping through the white cloth wrapped tightly around Cerran's wrist it possily was that.

An apprentice popped her head out of a near-by door. "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you not to shout. There are sick and injured people in here that need their rest."

Hearing the voice A'ran headed in that direction. "Can't believe you brought me to healers." Cerran complained, but he allowed his brother to lead him where he wanted to.

"Sorry about that, but i couldn't find anybody. He's hurt and i'm not sure how badly."

"It's only a cut and broken wrist dragon boy, not badly." Cerran said exasperated, as he righted himself and shook his head gently, trying to clear the dizziness and the throbbing pain "Well, if it _is_ a broken wrist then it is bad, and it seems you've come to the right place," the apprentice said as she indicated a couple chairs. "Please have a seat and I will see who is available to see you."

Cerran allowed his brother to lead him over to the chairs the apprentice had indicated and dropped into it, his brother sitting next to him.

"How'd you manage to injure youreslf anyway?" His brother asked, trying to distract his brother.

Cerran grunted. "Slipped, twice."

"You slipped?"

"I slipped."

"I hear there was a bit of an injury," the Weyrhealer said as he walked into the waiting area. "What happened "He says he slipped twice, he was on kitchen duty." A'ran explained.

A concerned sounding chirp broke into the converstion ahead of the familiar light blue form of Sky, Cerran's flit. "Where did he come from?" A'ran asked, still trying to distract his brother's attention.
He was aware from Melanth that the flit had been with him, while Cerran was on duty.

Sky few over to his person and perched on the arm of the chair, his whirling eyes showing the yellow of worry and concern.

"What he says. I was peeling and grating tubers and cut my hand. I was going to wash it and i slipped in water, the wrist now hurts." Cerran reluctantly explained, adding to his brother's words.

"Well, that certainly does look a bit messy," Pacham nodded, looking at the blood-soaked rag. "Let's clean it out and the bleeding stopped and then we'll take a look at your wrist, shall we? Follow me then."

Cerran relucantly got to his feet and followed the Master healer hoping they could get this over with. He _hated_ healers.

Right in here please," Pacham said as he pointed to an examination table. "Go ahead and have a seat. Just let me get something to clean out your cut with and I'll be right back."

Cerran sighed as he sat on the table the Master Healer had indicated.
Sky wanting to know what was going on with his person glided in after him and perched on his knees. Sky cocked his head as he regarded the injured hand and chirped a querry, as he gently nuzzled the injured hand Cerran was holding close to his body. A reluctant smile pulled at one corner of Cerran's mouth. "I'll live, don't worry, nothing the healer can't fix Sky." Cerran said reassuringly, as he reached out with his good hand and gently scratched Sky's eyeridge. Cerran chuckled as the blue flit closed his eyes and hummed in pleasure.

Right, now, let's take a look at this cut of yours," the Weyrhealer said as he brought in a bowl of redwort and some clean bandages.

Cerran nodded, slowly he began unwrapping his makeshift bandage from around his injured wrist. He winced as the loosening cloth allowed circulation back through his wrist and caused the deep cut on the back of his thumb to bleed sluggishly and the stinging to increase. Moving his wrist, even gently like he was doing caused the throbbing pain in it to increase.

Oh, my, that is quite a cut. Here, let me clean around it a bit and then we can get the bleeding stopped. I don't _think_ it needs stitches, but let's see, shall we?" The Weyrhealer quickly cleaned around the cut and inspected it critically. "Hmmmm... Can you move your thumb at all?"

Cerran hissed flinching slightly as the redwort stung the open cut.
"That's good, i'll miss out on any new scars in that case." He commented in dry amusement at the Weyrhealer's comment about stitches.

Following the healer's instructions he carefully moved his thumb and winced, moving it down and backwards hurt alot and caused a little more bleeding but he could move it. But the movements pulled at his wrist and he winced in pain. "I think my wrist could be fractured or bruised, it hurts to move it. But i can move my thumb alright" He said quietly, gritting his teeth against the pain.

Sky still perched near him hummed comfortingly in an attempt to help his person feel better.

"Hmmm, yes, it does look like its swelling up a bit. Let's just get a bandage on that cut and see if we can't stop the bleeding before we worry about your wrist though." The healer put an absorbant pad on the wound and began carefully wrapping it in bandages. "Now what happened to your wrist then?"

Cerran held his wrist and hand as steady as possible while the healer wrapped it up as he answered. "Just had a bad day in the kitchens really. I was peeling tubers, as i was put on kitchen duty again tonight, and i looked up at a pretty girl for just a second and slipped, the knife gave me this nice gift for my troubles." Cerran said wryly, grinning sheepishly as he began telling his injuries story.

"As for the wrist i was walking over to wash my hand off and slipped on a puddle of water on my way." He continued, shaking his head as he remembered his earlier folly. "I fell forwards and my hands came forward as they tend to do, to catch my fall and i landed on it funny.
Its been hurting since then i'm afraid."

Sky whistled softly in sympathy but he was rumbling strangely and Cerran gave his flit a dirty, amused look, as he realised Sky was laughing at him in the way of flits. "Sky is finding it funny." He commented, rolling his eyes at his flit's amusement.

"Well if your flit is more amused than concerned, I'd say its not life threatening," Pacham chuckled. "All right, that's bandaged. I'm going to press on your wrist lightly. Tell me where it hurts."

Cerran laughed sheepishly in return. "You and Sky are probably right."
He admitted, wincing as the healer gently manipulated his wrist.

"It hurts the most when you move it upwards and when you rotate it inwards." Cerran said, his wince becoming a grimace as his wrist ached sharply when moved in those directions.

"Mmmhmmm," Pacham hummed as he nodded thoughtfully. "I don't think its broken, but I'd say you fractured it. This has not been your lucky day, has it Cerran."

"That is what i guessed is wrong with it." Cerran confirmed.

"Well in a way despite the gash in my thumb and the fractured wrist it is my lucky day. It got me off kitchen duty early which isn't my favourite task to be assigned to. No more grating tubers for me this evening." He added with a grin, not really minding his injuries when it had helped get him out of grating vegetables.

"Well, I think you found a way to get out of kitchen duty for a while,"
Pacham said as he reached for a splint. "Now I'm going to splint this up for you, and then I will give you some tea that will help with inflamation and infection. You'll be better in a few sevendays."

Cerran brightened hearing this news and Sky whistled an echo of his person's better mood. "That's a relief, while i don't like kitchen duties, it will be good to get back the use of my hand. I've had injuries like this before and you tend to realise pretty quickly how you take parts of you for granted." Cerran said.

"So are you going to die a painful death Cery? From the noise Sky just made i would guess not." A'ran teased as he pushed aside the curtain and came in. "I got bored waiting and i'm hungry so i wanted to see how long you'd be." He added, his stomach grumbling as proof.

Cerran rolled his eyes but he chuckled at his brother. "No not unless you've heard of somebody dying of a fractured wrist and a nasty cut.
So sorry to disappoint you brother but i will be around a little longer." Cerran taunted back.

"I just need to put some ice on it to bring the swelling down a bit, put a cast on his wrist, we have to let it dry, then I will give you some tea for the inflamation and infection and you'll be on your way," Pacham assured him.

Cerran nodded. "That makes sense. When a herdbeast gets an injury we use cold compresses and special liquids to help them with bruised or injured limbs. We don't tend to use ice, being that ice is a little difficult to have on hand when tending the herds out in fields and things."

"Aren't you lucky you're not a herdbeast then," the Weyrhealer smiled.
"Well, let's get you patched up and on your way, shall we?"

Cerran smiled back. "That's the best thing i've heard you say since i've been here."

"Good, it's about time, i am still hungry you know. You could have been a nice brother and waited to injure yourself after dinner, you know?" A'ran complained good-naturedly, lightly punching his brother's shoulder.

Cerran snorted. "I'll remember to be more sympathetic to your needs next time i take it into my head to hurt myself." He replied sarcastically.

Sky chirped pleasently noting that his person was fine and going to be better now he turned his attention to preening himself ignoring the bickering brothers.
