Description: T'thalin and D'ltero hang out with a few friends.
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 5, day 21 of Turn 13
}:Good morning, Helanth.:{ Roxarith greeted, alighting near the Lake and folding his wings neatly. }:Mine says we should enjoy our restday. What is Yours planning?:{
}: We’re hanging out with some people who don’t have dragons and it’s soooo boring, :{ Helanth answered. He had been laying down next to D’ltero, moping quietly while his rider talked with his friends, but at Roxarith’s question, he perked up. }: You should come hang out! We can wrestle! Or race! Or anything that isn’t this! :{
}:I will come.:{ Roxarith asserted. }:And I will bring Mine.:{
Only a few moments later, he was there, landing near the blue.
Helanth immediately leaped up and charged at Roxarith, initiating play. “Wait, wait, Helanth, wait!” D’ltero shouted. “Let T’thalin dismount first!” Like a canine deprived of a toy, Helanth sank on his haunches and pouted. “Hey, sorry, T’thalin. He’s just excited,” D’ltero apologized with a big grin.
Roxarith hopped back smartly to avoid the possible impact, wings mantling. }:_Wait_.:{ he told Helanth sternly.
T'thalin huffed, and tried a smile as he slid down to join D'ltero. “... Hi.” He greeted. “It's, um. It's all right. No harm done.”
“Well, thank Faranth for that,” D’ltero said with a relieved laugh. “I’d hate to have to explain _that_ to the healers.” Inwardly though, he worried about Helanth’s style of play. What was acceptable for small dragons was not as acceptable for large ones. And Helanth didn’t seem to be growing out of that rambunctiousness.
He kept the thought to himself as he introduced T’thalin to the rest of the group hanging out. “Everyone, this is T’thalin. He’s in my class. He came from Dragonsfall. T’thalin, this is Soroven, Kheheral, and Sareya.”
“A bronzer! Whoa, ain’t that neat! Dal, you’re moving up in the world!” Soroven said as he went to shake T’thalin’s hand. “Welcome in and all that. Ignore Kheheral. He’s going to ask you all kinds of questions about how you got a bronze.”
“I am not! I know not to be so rude,” Kheheral protested.
“Or shallow,” Sareya added as she finished her berry bite. “Honestly, Sor, you’re the only one obsessed with the color rankings. Everyone else would just like to Impress at all.” Which was untrue -- at least from Sareya’s standpoint since she expected to Impress a gold dragon like her grandmother -- but she never said that to the boys.
“Don’t mind Sor,” D’ltero told T’thalin as he motioned for the other weyrling to sit. “He’s got dragon on the brain. He’s been a Candidate for too long.”
“I, um, wasn't expecting any particular colour.” T'thalin offered, but shook Soroven's hand readily enough before he took the indicated seat near D'ltero. “... Hi, everyone.” It was fine… right?
}:_Now_ you may approach me.:{ Roxarith told Helanth, and spread his shining wings.
Helanth wasted no time in pouncing at his clutchmate.
“I don’t think anyone ever does, even the ones who say they’re going to Impress a bronze,” D’ltero said. “You’re just sort of blindsided by the whole thing anyway.”
“Kheheral wants a bronze so his daddy isn’t disappointed in him,” Soroven teased. Kheheral looked embarrassed by this. Soroven laughed. “See? I’m right!”
“Knock it off, Sor,” Sareya warned as she picked at another tart. Directing the conversation towards their new friend, she asked, “So, where are you from, T’thalin?”
“Originally? I, um. I transferred in from Dragonsfall.” T'thalin offered up. “And… Yeah. Standing is one thing. Impression is, um… something else.”
Roxarith reared back at Helanth’s pounce, leaping skyward with a few powerful wingbeats. }:Catch me!:{ he bugled, willing to entertain his blue friend.
D’ltero looked over at Helanth’s answering bugle, smiling when he realized that the two dragons were having fun. “Something else for sure,” he repeated in a blissful tone. Then, momentary reverie over, he turned that ebullient grin back at the group. “I told T’thalin it’s a good thing he’s here and not at Dragonsfall. That place is too cold! Here is much better.”
“Dragonsfall isn’t _that_ bad,” Kheheral remarked. “I like snow.”
Sareya wrinkled her nose. “You can keep it then. I’ll take the lake weather.”
Soroven grinned wolfishly at T’thalin. “Which do you prefer? Snow? Sun? Lake? Valley?”
“The weather here is, um, really nice.” T'thalin answered readily. “But I _like_ snow. And, um. I kind of miss the cold? A little bit.” He hastened to add.
“Good, you can take Kheheral to the snowy wastes or wherever and let him prance around in it,” Soroven said. “The rest of us will stay here.”
“We could all go and have a snowball fight,” D’ltero suggested with a playful grin. “T’thalin could show us around the Weyr.”
“I want to, um, go back to Dragonsfall when I can, so that could… work.” T'thalin responded. “I'm…willing to bring anyone who wants to come.”
Aloft, Roxarith rumbled in agreement.
“Road trip!” Soroven cried enthusiastically. D’ltero grinned further. “Well, I mean, on dragon wings but you get the idea.”
“Would be a nice change of scenery for the day,” Sareya added thoughtfully as she picked at her tart. “Maybe I can talk to one of the dragonhealers there.”
Soroven rolled his eyes. “Seriously, Sar, can you stop talking about dragonhealing for just one day?”
She pinned him with a sharp look. “It’s my _craft_. It’s what I’m _doing_. I’m not going to pass up the chance to better at if I can. We can do a silly snowball fight and then I can do rounds with one, I bet. Win, win.”
“Oh, yeah, you can go back to studying harper stuff soon,” D’ltero remarked to T’thalin.
“That, um, could be good.” T'thalin answered readily. “But… Roxarith’s going to take priority.” He'd only really apprenticed so he couldn't potentially get kicked out of the Weyr. He had Roxarith now.
}:You do.:{ the bronze agreed.
D’ltero clapped T’thalin on the shoulder. “Of course our dragons take priority,” he agreed with that big grin. “They always will.”
“Hey, just don’t forget about us friends who were with you _before_ you got dragons, okay?” Soroven said with playful testiness. “Maybe T’thalin will turn out to be a better friend than you,” he added as he stuck his tongue out at D’ltero.
“Doubt it,” D’ltero answered, his grin not faltering at all. “But he can certainly try!”
T'thalin considered that, and then offered a half shrug. “I, um, just met most of you today. But I can be friends. Um. A friend.” If they wanted.
“Deal! Hello, new friend!” Soroven declared.
