"Come on, now, really, E'naer, don't you guys think I know how to wash a dragon by _now_? Why not let the new candidates have a turn?" Birigundi laughed as he picked up his brush and waded into the water.
"The new ones will have their change," E'naer grinned. "Well, it seems I wash your dragon more than any of my peers," the candidate laughed.
"Well, maybe I just like your company?" E'naer suggested. ** Shards, did that sound flirting?** The greenrider thought. Birigundi wondered too as he turned to look at the man over his shoulder, but he was starting to get used to male greenriders. "At least you have good taste in the company you choose then."
"Yes, so I have been told," E'naer said and lathered the sand to his green's hide. Well, Eillispeth was getting close of her mating flight-time and that affected his mood also. "Ladies talk too much," the young man chuckled. "But who could blame them, eh?"
"Who could?" E'naer chuckled. Birigundi threw his head back and laughed. "Aw, you greenriders, you all think alike."
"We do, don't we. That's probably why we are greenrider's and not..let's say blueriders." "I really can't relate," Birigundi shrugged. "When I impress it will be a brown or bronze, I'm afraid."
"The half of the weyr's population will be disappointed," E'naer grinned. "Well, they can still look," just like the greenrider was _obviously_ looking now.
E'naer was indeed looking and admiring. There was no harm in it and Birigundi didn't seemed to be uncomfortable with it, like so many other hold-breds. There was a time when Birigundi had been extremely uncomfortable with men looking at him like that. But then he learned that men who looked at him like that often had female friends who they could encourage to look at him like that as well. There was no harm done, after all. It was just part of Weyr life.
"So, exactly how many ladies you juggling with at this moment? I've heard there's one pregnant for you and you've been seen spending time with a healer apprentice?" "There is a girl who is pregnant by me. But the healer's apprentice and I are just friends. I'm not used to this whole idea of being a father and all that comes with it, and Rigella is helping me understand what's going on with Nialyn and the baby." It was a lie, but it was a harmless one. Rumors were bound to happen, but Birigundi was not about to let Rigella get hurt by them. "All right. But with your reputation, if you as much say hi to some girl, it's bound to get the rumours flying. I have, had pretty much similar reputation, except it involved blueriders." "It is a burden we must bear then?" Birigundi asked teasingly, feeling his mood lighten once more.
"If you want to think it as burden. I always thought it as open invitation for fun." "Oh, I took my open invitation, and that's how I've ended up a father," Birigundi grinned. "But I suppose you don't have to share that concern, at least."
"No, I don't," E'naer replied.
"Well, I guess I can't really complain. I mean, I'm actually really happy with the idea."
"That's a good thing for the baby," E'naer said softly. "I have my nephew dote on." "I didn't know you had a nephew," Birigundi grinned over his shoulder. "How old is he?"
"He is three, not a baby anymore but a little man," E'naer said proudly.
"Still sounds like a baby to me. I thought they were babies until they went to Harper Classes."
"Well, officially, they are babies until they turn one, after that they are toddlers. Of course, ask any mother and they tell you that they are babies until they start having children of their own." "I think my mother still thinks me a baby," Birigundi chuckled. "Have you ever thought of having children, E'naer?"
"Me? Hey, I'm a greenrider and as long as men can't have babies...." "There have been some male greenriders who have fathered a child. Shards, men who would be greenriders in a Weyr play husband and father out in the Holds all the time."
"True, I've met few of them and I would have been one of them if my mother hadn't been wise enough to send me here. But, no, I just settle for pampering my sister's son. I don't really have time for family." "Seems you already have a lady to pamper anyway," Birigundi grinned as he patted the green's side. "Speaking of which, my side's done."
"So's mine." **Go to rinse it off.** E'naer watched her go with a loving look in his eyes. "She's the only lady I want or need." "Well, when a man has found that, a man has found everything," the candidate grinned, though he doubted he would ever have that problem...
"Let's go to dry off while she swims," The weyrlingmaster's third suggested. "After you," Birigundi agreed.
