No sooner had L'keri slid down from Rhalith's back onto K'mai's weyr ledge than the brown was leaping into the air again, so eager to return to his mate that he nearly knocked his rider flat with the strong downbeat of his wings. L'keri ducked and rolled his eyes. A sevenday since the flight and it wasn't getting any easier to prise Rhalith away from Galgaith for anything other than fighting Thread. He'd had to plead to be allowed to arrive at the party in proper style.

His spirits rose at the familiar sounds coming from inside the weyr: waves of chatter, bursts of laughter and whistling, harper music struggling to be heard over the racket, the warm, welcoming buzz of wingmates at party. Although it was still early, there were more than enough people here to make an entrance. He smoothed down his hair and straightened his jacket, then strolled in.

"Hello the weyr!" he called, throwing his arms wide.

“The guest of honor!” K’mai hurried up and gave his friend a hug. “Well, one of them,” he added with a grin. He had on a nice brown shirt and trousers that he sometimes wore for Hatchings and Gathers.

“Congrats on the sex,” said N’kyri, also dressed head to toe in shades of brown. He stepped up to hand the man a L’keri-safe drink with a cheeky grin. “How does it compare to winning a greenflight?”

"Every bit as delightful," L'keri said, accepting the drink with a nod of thanks, "but with the extra bonus of _really_ annoying the bronzeriders. No need to worry though, ladies," he added, with a wink. "Rhalith and I haven't become too snobbish to appreciate a pretty green."

“Relsath will be so thrilled,” Zariah said with dry sarcasm as she walked over with a tin. “You'd better have been nice to that young goldrider, she's a sweet girl. I Searched her you know.” She didn't actually know her well enough to say that, but she'd seemed nice enough. The sharp tone was softened significantly by the fact that Zariah was offering an open tin of cookies.

G’zan leaned over and snatched a cookie from Zariah’s tin before L’keri or anyone else could partake. “Those goldriders turning into real competition,” he said, clucking his tongue. “Bad enough they got all the bronzeriders trailing after ‘em -- now they’re taking our browns! What’s next: our blues, too?”

He shook his head sadly, but his signature grin never left his face.

"What do you think, lads?" L'keri picked out a cookie and turned to the blueriders. "Do you fancy your dragon’s chances with a gold?"

“It would have to be a really, _really_ small gold.” K’mai laughed. “Could you imagine Sebeth with Galgaith?”

}:I like greens,:{ Sebeth said. }:Golds are for bronzes. And Rhalith.:{

Zariah snickered, “Oh, don’t worry G’zan, we’re still better than the golds,” she elbowed him playfully away, but not before he’d managed to grab a cookie. “There’s more of us, and a greenflight doesn’t come with any strings or extra duties. Rel’s never minded sharing her bronzes and browns anyway.”

"Oh, shells." An awful thought occurred to L'keri. "What if Galgaith does mind, and Rhalith stops chasing greens so as not to offend her?" He'd no idea what the gold's opinion was on the matter. "Imagine, no green flights at least until the Hatching."

“More for Sebeth, then.” K’mai nudged his friend.

“Hate to tell you this, L’keri, but you might need to pick up the slack a little while he’s doing dad duties.” Th’reyos said with mock gravity. The glint of his smile was bright against the deep klah brown of his tunic, sipping something a good deal stronger where he lounged in a chair.

He wasn’t much help here, as they’d had the opposite dilemma in Dolphin Cove; Zarkarth was the intense, clingy, overbearing one, and aside from Fall, had rarely found a good reason to leave Jossenth’s blessedly tolerant side. “Can't have the lovely greens of the Weyr thinking they've fallen completely off your radar.”

“Certainly not. And what better place to demonstrate my appreciation of the delightful greenriders of Alpine Wing,” L’keri said, casting his gaze around appreciatively, “than at a party?” He grinned. “I’m all yours.”

“That’s big talk,” N’kyri laughed, shoving the man towards the nearest cluster of greenriders. “You better get to work!”
