Sareya

"Well, I didn't expect to see you two in here today," Sareya said as she recognized the grinning face of D'ltero. "Shouldn't you be in class?"

"We should, you're right, but Hel boy here scratched himself up during marching drills," D'ltero said, jerking a thumb at the dragon following behind him.

}: I'm fine! I'm fine! It's just a scratch, okay it's a few scratches, but it doesn't hurt if I'm licking it so why are we here? What is that smell? :{ Helanth's head reared back, nostrils flared wide. }: It smells _awful_ in here! :{

Eager to be of use, Sareya immediately hopped into action. Scratches and minor lacerations were easy! She even knew how to suture up some of the deeper ones without supervision now! "What did he do?" she asked as she gathered numbweed, redwort, and cleaning cloths. Should she prep a suture kit just in case? No, first triage, then treatment. And triage always started with redwort and numbweed.

"Got in a fight with some rocks," D'ltero answered with a humored grin.

}: I was _winning_! :{ Helanth insisted. }: I almost had that big one moved before it toppled over. :{

"You're lucky it didn't crush your paw."

"Wait, a big rock?" Sareya asked, trying to discern what had happened from just one side of the conversation. Dragonets could be curious but usually didn't get into destructive or dangerous trouble.

"Big for him. He was determined to get it moved."

}: It was _in the way_! If I could move it, we would have more room to wrestle. I'm going to get Roxarith pinned one day! :{

D'ltero chuckled. "He's determined to win against one of the bronzes in the class. They wrestle and play constantly. Honestly, I'm not sure where he gets the energy from. All of the lectures, they said that dragonets sleep a lot. Not Helanth."

}: I'll sleep when I'm dead. Whatever that means. :{

"Every dragon is different," Sareya intoned from Turns of hearing it from other people. "Just as long as he isn't breaking rules or doing something before he's supposed to. But they're usually really good about that. Okay, let me take a look at -- hey, Helanth, you're going to have to stop licking it for a minute so I can look at it please."

"Listen to the nice dragonhealer apprentice," D'ltero told his dragon. Helanth sat on his haunches and pouted. Sareya slathered numbweed on the scratches, disappointed that they were little more than superficial brush burns, and then waited for a moment before reaching for the redwort to clean them out.

Helanth licked the scratch.

D'ltero thumped his eyeridge. "Stop that," he chided, still grinning.

}: That tasted _awful_. Why did she put that awful stuff on my skin? That's...I can't feel my tongue. Why can't I feel my tongue? What terrible food did she just give me!? Is she trying to do that poisoning thing to me?! I don't know what poisoning is but it starts with this, doesn't it?! :{

"Helanth, chill, chiiiiiiillll," D'ltero said. "It's numbweed. That's what it does. Makes things numb."

"That's why you don't lick it," Sareya informed the dragon, who glared at her as though she had just insulted his entire lineage. She continued in her treatment, undeterred, as she inwardly recited to herself what she should do _if_ the cuts had been deeper. Or had a big foreign body in them. Or if it involved muscle, tendon, or bone. Even if this was just a minor scratch, keeping that information fresh in her mind was key! "Is he always this much of a handful?" she asked after a moment.

"Every. Day." D'ltero laughed though. "You should have heard him singing during marching drills. He made up some song about how stupid it was."

Sareya smiled as she cleaned the dirt out of the cuts. "He's creative, we'll give him that. Hopefully it's just a baby stage and he'll even out as he gets older. My dads are always telling me stories about how baby dragons get into _everything_. They're like human toddlers but with four paws and a tail. And bigger."

She wrapped a light gauze around the dragon's forearm, even though it really wasn't needed. "Mostly so that he doesn't lick it raw," she told D'ltero. "Dragon hide grows back really quick so you can take it off tomorrow morning. But if it starts getting inflamed, like feeling hot or painful, then bring him back."

}: So she can poison me again? Likely not. :{ Helanth opened and closed his jaws repeatedly, trying to figure out where his numb tongue was.

"Say thanks to the nice dragonhealer apprentice, Hel boy," D'ltero said as he pet Helanth's head.

}: Thanks for not killing me with your weird medicine stuff. :{

"He says thanks," D'ltero relayed, purposefully dropping the full message. "See you at dinner one night maybe?"

Sareya, pleased with herself and how it had gone, grinned wider. "Sure! Maybe I'll get to help with some of the dragonhealing lessons that they give you weyrlings soon too. I'm about to get the next round of my exams. I might get my senior apprentice knots soon!" She was pretty sure she was going to get them. She had been studying a _lot_ and had been sure to work with both her grandmother and the Weyrdragonhealer so that she was getting the best training. Sure, she would need to Impress a dragon to advance to journeyman status but that was a future problem.

"Hey, that'd be great. You could use Helanth as Exhibit A."

}: Don't you volunteer me for this! I have a rock to move. And Roxarith to win against. And maybe a nap to take. :{

"Sure, if he's okay with that." Sareya reached up to pet the dragon's head. "Be good, okay? I'm sure you'll win against that bronze brother of yours soon."

Helanth huffed. "Alright, Hel boy, let's get going. We've got class to make," D'ltero said. "Thanks again, Sareya."

"See you later!" Sareya said with a wave.

}: That was the worst. I didn't even get a treat for being a good boy. :{
