Aydhara

Aydhara

Roxarith yawned and looked around. All was well. His classmates were all here and now it was time for their food.

Another draconic yawn. }:This bucket is mine.:{ he told the other dragonet heading toward him. }:There is one just there :{

}: I don't want your stupid bucket.:{ Rath snapped. He puffed up his little chest and held his head even higher as he stomped past, and most definitely did not smack Roxarith with his tail.

}: … well. Good.:{ Roxarith responded, and held his head up higher as he definitively ignored the provocation. Or… tried to. }:It is important that both of us eat our fill.:{

“... Just.. just leave it, Roxarith.” T’thalin muttered, shoulders hunched a little bit. The bronze snorted. }:Nonsense. We are clutchmates. It is our duty to excel.:{

Rath's head swung back, eyes whirling orange in indignance.

Aydhara tapped the bucket with her fingernails, the soft 'ping' of the metal redirecting the blue's immediate challenge. **Mind your business.** She said gently, **Don't let him bother you.**

Rath rumbled a disagreement. }: Mind your business. :{ He repeated sourly to Roxarith.

}: But we are clutchmates. Shouldn't we work together? I am sure if we do, we'll only succeed.:{

“Stop, Roxarith. He's… not interested.” T'thalin stated. “Just eat and then, um, I'll get your face all cleaned up.”

The bronze snorted, but obeyed, returning his attention to his meal, and T'thalin darted an apologetic look Aydhara's way. “... Sorry.” He offered. “I'm… Your blue is a nice colour.”

Rath stuck his tongue out at Roxarith in a mimicry of the grossed-out face his rider often adopted before focusing on his own breakfast.

"He is a gorgeous colour." Aydhara agreed fondly. She made no move to chastise the blue for bad behaviour.

T’thalin opened his mouth, then closed it. He focused on feeding Roxarith another few bites before he spoke up again. “Did, um… did Roxarith… do something? To… to Rath?”

}:Nonsense.:{ Roxarith asserted privately. }:Rath simply wants to quarrel.:{

}: He's annoying.:{ Rath supplied helpfully. }: And a weenie.:{

**I think you're using that word wrong.** Aydhara answered with a barely contained smirk. But if Roxarith was anything like his rider, he probably was.

"Roxarith should leave him alone." Aydhara supplied instead. "Don't tell him what to do. It's my job."

“I would _never_ tell Rath what to do.” T'thalin protested. “I, um. I think Roxarith just wanted to be friends. And I… I'm sorry if we offended you somehow.” He added. “I don't, um… I think blues are good dragons. Like… Indrath. Kadira's blue. Not that Rath and Indrath are the same.” He added hastily.

Roxarith looked at Rath a moment longer, then went back to eating his meal. }:Mine says to leave you alone outside of lessons. So we shall.:{ he told the blue.

Rath bared his baby teeth in an off-putting grin, the blood from his breakfast making it macabre. }: Good.:{

Aydhara frowned for a moment. "Right. I forgot you transferred from Dragonsfall with M'kadja. How do you know Kadira?"

“I… Um. I helped wash Indrath. A few times.” T’thalin said, after a moment. “She… she was nice, and so was Indrath. We, um… made friends. When Roxarith is old enough we’re definitely going to go visit.” he added.

Roxarith spread his small wings in agreement. }:We shall have to do our utmost.:{ the bronze affirmed.

“... You know Kadira?” T’thalin added, after a moment.

"I know all the girl blueriders, except for the girl that just Impressed in Galgaith's clutch." Aydhara answered. "It's easy to keep tabs when there's only seven of us. So are you comparing Indrath and Rath as blues in general, or comparing them as two blues that chose women?"

T’thalin ducked his head, his face flushing slightly. “I, um… only really know Kadira and Indrath.” he protested. “But… maybe the second? I mean… Rath seems fierce. And Kadira said Indrath can be fierce too. Even if he, um, wasn't with me. And you said to leave Rath alone. So… I might not know for sure.” He trailed off.

“I, um… I promise we'll leave you alone outside of lessons if the Weyrlingmasters tell us to work together that day.” T'thalin offered, finally, gaze firmly on feeding Roxarith another handful.

Aydhara snorted softly at that. That wasn't what she said, at all. She'd heard this guy had been part of the holdless group at Dragonsfall, but she had trouble believing it. "All the blues are different. Indrath and Rath are different. You don't need to compare him to another girl blue rider. We aren't in competition with each other."

“I wasn’t trying to, um, offend. Sorry.” T’thalin offered, after a moment.

Roxarith snorted and looked up from his own meal, eyed Aydhara for a moment, and then went back to eating his own meal. }:We do not have to be friends.:{ The bronze told his rider. }:But you should try to make an alliance anyways.:{

T'thalin took a deep breath. “You… don’t have to like me.” He continued, though his shoulders hunched slightly. “But… Roxarith and Rath are clutchmates, and we’re in the same class. I want to… try to get along.”

"I'm not bending over backwards to." Aydhara said matter-of-factly. "There's thirty-seven other weyrlings for you to pull this pitying act on. You know you're going to die if you keep this up, right?"

T'thalin blanched just slightly, but took a deep breath. “I know the risks dragonriders face.” He said. “They make that very, um, clear.” A pause, and then he added, “Trying to make friends isn't an act. I'm s--”

Roxarith nudged his rider, firmly, interrupting him with a snout to T'thalin's midsection. }:Do not apologize to Rath's. You are perfect, Mine. Keep feeding me instead.:{

"Do you?" Aydhara asked, skeptical and unaware of his conversation with his dragon. "Are you going to make it through training for Threadfall to get you? If you don't have enough confidence, you're not even going to make it out of /between/."

Roxarith nudged his rider again }:I chose you. No one else.:{ the bronze repeated. }:We will be amazing.:{

T'thalin swallowed, and stroked the bronze’s head, rubbing an eyeridge just so. “We'll be fine.” He said.

Roxarith crooned.

Aydhara shrugged. "If you say so. Enough of my friends back in 'Reaches never made it past their first turn as riders. You will too, if you're not careful."

“We’ll be fine.” T’thalin only responded, bolstered by Roxarith's certainty, and continued to feed the bronze.
