Description: Being in the same Wing with your situationship is awkward
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 10, day 14 of Turn 12
Notes: Delayed because I forgot to set a date
Bluerider L'rik was not, by nature, a patient man. Supervision duty was the sort of thankless task usually doled out when the Wingleader decided he needed something productive to do-- or when no one else could be corralled into doing it. Today, it meant circling Dragonsfall's edge of the Sea of Azov with two baby dragonriders who, in his opinion, would be way more trouble than they're worth. He'd heard J'ler bragging all those months ago about bagging one of the new bronze weyrlings, and now that the two of them were added into Cyan- Alpine, Alpine Wing- and nothing good could happen by pairing them together.
At least if it happened during sweep it would be amusing.
}: Keep your spacing,:{ Ozyth’s cool, even voice rippled through the other two. The blue flicked a wingtip for emphasis, angling slightly higher so the two younger dragons had a clear mark to follow.
Norrianth answered with a sharp feeling of agreement, rumbling happily. He wasn't quite out of the habit of just wanting to play, but being in the sky without his clutchmates was exciting enough to keep him occupied. E'kirim sat upright and rigid, his focus intent on the coastline as instructed.
J’ler, too, was more than content to keep his attention on the duty at hand. He was already more than chastised enough for having done that bragging and nearly lost his chance to bang around with E’kirim as it was.
Maishoth, on the other hand, had no such interest in maintaining any semblance of professional decorum. On the contrary, it seemed he was dead set on goading Norrianth into playing chase.
**You’re gonna get us in trouble,** J’ler snapped.
}:What reason is there to tighten up? There's nothing below us to see. I think you all should just lighten up and let us good revelers be.:{
**You're gonna get one of us moved to another wing is the reason, you rhyming dick. It's not time to play.**
}:It's always time to play.:{
}: Maishoth, stay in formation.{ Ozyth called back. He turned his head so he could watch the brown with one whirling eye.
Norrianth followed along in formation, tilting his wings so they'd pitch away from Maishoth. He did want to play, really, but not when E'kirim was so tense on his neck. }: Steady. :{ He agreed, matching E'kirim's tone so well that it nearly sounded like E'kirim's own thought.
Maishoth would have, perhaps, ignored Ozythâ€" except that Norrianth ignored _him_. What was this? Of all of the dragons in the world, Maishoth had believed that Norriranth understood the value of levity.
But no. He was… this.
}:What? Is this sweep for a grade? I bare my soul and all I get is betrayed? You think you'll miss what's displayed! But all you are is afraid…:{
}: We're working, aren't we?:{ Norrianth asked. }: We have to stay in formation. We can play later.:{
Maishoth huffed. He felt spurned, rejected. But worse, he felt foolish.
}:Yeah. Sorry.:{
J’ler’s eyes widened. Yeah? Sorry? No little rhyming couplet?
**Buddy, are you all right?**
}:Don’t worry about it.:{ Maishoth’s voice was so _different_. Like he had been singing his whole life, and up until then, J’ler had never heard his speaking voice. }:I’m sorry, Ozyth,:{ he repeated to their supervisor.
J’ler was suddenly much less worried about getting in trouble and more that someone had broken his dragon.
}: Good, yes. :{ Norrianth said, completely unaware of the damage. He shifted back into the correct spot in formation as E'kirim pictured it, no worse for the wear.
}: We'll start turning twenty degrees left in a few minutes.:{ Ozyth relayed. }: We'll do a wide loop over the sea and circle back. Watch for the ships below. :{
}:We are watching,:{ said Maishoth. J’ler peered out leftward into the distance and then patted his brown’s hide.
**Tell me you’re all right.**
}:I’m fine.:{
**I don’t believe you when you say it like that. You’ve made some pretty questionable slant rhymes since we met, but you’ve never just… talked.**
}:Maybe it’s time I grew up a little.:{
Nobody else heard whatever passed between J'ler and Maishoth-- only that the formation smoothed out afterwards. Norrianth continued on steadily, watching Ozyth for any change in course. E'kirim kept his own eyes downwards even as the height still made his stomach roll a little, keeping an eye out for the little dots of ships that were moving across the sea.
When the trio began their wide turn, E’kirim shifted with it automatically. Whatever tension had sparked earlier faded into the background noise of flight. Sweep went on.
