Description: J'darin goes to see Maurgen for the first time since Ikoladith rose and stumbles across some interesting facts about the Harper.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 1 of Turn 3
It had been a couple of sevendays since he'd spent all that time with Maurgen after Ikoladith Rose, and was caught by another _brown_ and a young one too!
He growled a little as the thoughts crossed his mind, but he quickly pushed them away and settled his flowers more carefully. Another memory swam over him as he knocked carefully on the internal door of Maurgen's Weyr.
**
She had been shocked but then so delighted he had promised to bring her flowers everyday. Her eyes lit up from within and the thanks was all he could have wanted in that smile, the promise of love dancing around her beautiful eyes.
**
Yes, that had been Kalina. But here he was with flowers again, standing outside the young Harper's Weyr. There was a muffled voice from inside followed by a soft thud and the sound of feet running. A few moments later, the door opened revealing a breathless and touslled looking Maurgen with a smudge of charcoal on her cheek and another on her forehead. When she saw J'darin, her eyes lit up.
"J'd--Weyrleader! It's nice to see you."
"J'darin, Maurgen. J'darin!" He scolded her fondly, then offered her the flowers a little shyly. What would she think of him? He hadn't come to wind up in her bed again, although he wasn't opposed to it. But he definitely wanted her to know it had _not_ been just a lost Flight.
She smiled and accepted the flowers, holding them up to her nose and letting her eyes drift shut as she inhaled the scent. Fortien had given her flowers once or twice as a birthingday gift, but she'd never gotten them from anyone else before, especially not someone like the _Weyrleader_! Opening her eyes again, she stepped back and invited J'darin in with a gesture. "Thank you, J'darin." "Well, I've learned that ladies love flowers. I hope you don't mind, lass." He smiled at her and looped his arm companionably around her shoulders. "I had some free candlemarks and thought I might talk you into go for a walk with me on the beach, Maurgen... Do you think you could get away?"
Maurgen felt fifteen again, with her stomach fluttering and a flush creeping up her neck at the proximity of the object of her crush. "I'd just need a few moments to finish up the project I'm working on. You could come in and sit down, if you want... but you don't have to, if you don't want to wait."
J'darin chuckled at her. He obviously made her nervous. He found that strangely appealing, for all that he had, prior to this, shown a preference for strong willed women that he most certainly did _not_ make nervous.
But they had not wanted him. Perhaps she would..
He looked at her for a long moment, the chuckle fading as his look became intense. "I'll wait, Maurgen. I fully intend on spending more time in your delightful company, so you'd better get used to me." "Oh." The intense look had a lot less to do with girlish fantasies and something more to do with the sort of heated dreams she'd been having since they'd fallen prey to a gold flight. Figuring she'd be thinking a lot more clearly with a little space, she ducked out from under his arm and hurried to the table where her work was spread out. "Well, I'll just put this away, then... you can have a seat on the couch." She waved toward the couch, which was stacked with sketchbooks and odd pieces of wood that looked like they would become frames.
The Weyrleader watched her go with fascination. Did he truly unnerve her so?
An odd smile lighting his face, he settled on the couch. His sensitive carver fingers picked the pieces of wood up almost immediately. He just could not resist. His fingers traced the edges of the wood, almost 'seeing' the frame ready to come to life. The frame he'd carved for Traelyn leapt to his mind and he smiled to himself again. He would take one of these and make it for Maurgen. After he knew her a little better, so he could capture her essence in her frame. He replaced it a little too quickly, being excited by the prospect of giving her something, and sent a few of her sketchbooks tumbling. He pulled one out and began to flip through it, while listening to her work.
Had Maurgen not been busy putting her tools away, she might have noticed that J'darin had picked up one of the sketchbooks she habitually used to record particularly amusing events that she wanted to remember. She often entertained Fortien with her sometimes wildly scandalous sketches, but she'd never imagined that someone like the Weyrleader would end up thumbing through one.
J'darin paused on a sketch of what looked to be 1 male greenrider and 1 bluerider that he recognized. They were .. bathing? He looked closer.
Why! The wicked little harper had caught this pair at play. While his bronzerider sensibilities were slightly .. put off... his male mind appreciate the comedy of her sketch and he began to laugh. He flipped through a few more, and found greenriders playing in the water, REALLY playing. He found a couple of bronze and brownriders obviously enjoying themselves. But each sketch seemed to be more daring than the last! Where had his little shy harper learned to draw the nude human body so aptly well?
He really started to laugh and finally picked a sketch of a brownrider and a greenrider that he found intriguing, left it open to there, and waited with a sly grin on his face for her to come wonder what he was laughing about. It didn't take long for her to return to where he was sitting, her hair pulled back but her face still covered in charcoal smudges. "I just need to find my sho..." Color flooded her cheeks as she caught sight of the open sketchbook, her eyes widening in horror. "Oh. You, uhh... found my sketch books."
J'darin peered up at the Harper in front of him, his eyes twinkling with suppressed mirth. The smudges on her face were incredibly charming, though he found himself wanting to wipe them off. "I did, Maurgen. And, Faranth, what a mind you've got behind that lovely smile... " He showed her the picture he'd opened it to; two faces he dimly recognized, their bodies tangled together in a very interesting way down by the mating cots. "Would you like to try some of these?" He teased her, grinning from ear to ear. "Try--try _these_?" Her breath caught as she stared at the picture, suddenly feeling far out of her depth. Did she want to--want to with _him_?
Before she could have brushed it off as a joke, but she could remember his hands on her body, the weight of him pressing her back into the sheets. The memory of feeling the hot slide of skin on skin as J'darin coaxed her body to life under his fingers wasn't going to be the sort of thing she forgot any time soon. His slow smile eased and he pulled her a little closer, tugging on her hand as he lay the drawings down. "I but tease you, little harper.
Although, I must say I am surprised to find such... scenes... in my sweet little Maurgen's Weyr.."
"I've been at the Weyr more than ten turns," she replied, a smile playing at the corner of her lips. "You see things whether you try to or not in that much time!"
Glad to see her smile, and perhaps some of her embarrassment fade -
though he found that charming as well -, he looked intently at her.
This time, he did wipe the charcoal from face with one smooth motion of those terribly sensitive fingers, turning it into a caress. "The question is, Maurgen, did you try, or not?" He smiled. "I tried a lot at first," she replied in a voice that had gone a bit breathless. "It seemed like a good idea, when I thought I might become a dragonrider." "I almost wish you had, lovely. To have Hasaarth catch your dragon in a mating flight would be wonderful indeed." He pulled her closer still, kissing the tip of her nose. "But I've no need for a Flight to want you."
Maurgen dropped into his lap, telling herself that it had been a concious decision instead of the result of her wobbly knees giving out. _J'darin_
wanted her! It was the best of all possible dreams coming true, and she couldn't help the radiant grin that the thought caused. "Do you really want to go for a walk?" she asked, still every bit as breathless.
He couldn't keep the smile from his face when she dropped into his lap.
He leaned forward to kiss that beautiful smile. Shards, it was beautiful. He was quiet a moment, then said softly, "I did want to, but I seem to have a lap full of distraction... " and then he kissed her again, this time more purposefully.
