Description: K'lvin speaks to a foster-mother about care for his new daughter.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 15 of Turn 3
K'lvin walked into the nursery, moving like a man who dreaded stepping on something small. He'd gotten the note he'd been afraid of, Cylena had been right. Now he had to find a wet nurse and fostor mother for little Lena. He was clueless as to who he needed to ask about such things and looked around, helplessly.
"Excuse me," one of the workers said, looking up at the rider who seemed to be rather lost. "Can I help you, bronzerider?"
"I hope so. I've a daughter who'll be arriving from Vista Point as soon as I can arrange things here, the problem is, I haven't the slightest clue as too what I need to arrange. I was hoping for someone to help me."
"You are looking for fostercare, I take it?" she asked as she beckoned him to follow her.
"well yes, the babe's only a few weeks old so I guess she'll need a milkmother too." K'lvin watched the ground carfully, he wasn't sure if a child would suddenly appear beneath his feet.
"Have you arranged to have a copy of her records to be sent to the Healers here at Dragonsfall?" she asked curiously as she gave one of the other workers a silent signal to watch the children while she escorted the man a back office.
"I can do so. Do they need all of them?"
The woman nodded. "Well, yes, that would be best if you intend for her to stay for any length of time. Will her mother be involved in her raising at all."
K'lvin closed his eyes at the mention of her mother, he still loved her in his own way. "Cylena didn't, she died after Lena was born."
"I am very sorry to hear that," the woman said quietly. "I'm afraid I will have to ask that the records you send to the Healers include something about that. Just so there is no confusion later."
**What kind of confusion could tere be?** he wondered to himself.
"I'll do that. What else is she going to need?
"That should be it. I suppose the first step will be in finding the child a milkmother. There are a few ladies I believe I could talk to.
And then of course a fostermother. If the child is only a few weeks old, /between/ might still be dangerous for the child. When did you expect to bring her?"
"Whenever the healers say I can. Cylena's got a cousin at Far Island who's watching the babe now and if still griving for Cylena I think, and wants to keep the little one as long as I'll let them."
"That's understandable. May I ask how much of a role in the child's life you expect to play? That is, will you be wanting to have her some evenings when you are available, or restdays?"
"every moment I can." he said softly. He knew that part of the reasin he'd lost her mother had been the fact that he'd no time for her.
"All right, I will make some arrangements for you then. I will need your name, dragon name and the name of your wing, the location of your weyr, as well as the name of the child and her birthdate." She walked over to a shelf and pulled out a blank sheet of paper and a pencil for him.
Writting quickly K'lvin put his name, Xermeth, his wing as Azur. On the next line he put the location of his weyr, realizing that as a higher one it wasn't _that_ convente for anyone without a dragon.
Blinking back tears he put his daughters name as Lena, for her mother and her brithday. "Was there anything else?"
"No, I'll be in touch with you soon," she looked at the name, "Bronzerider K'lvin."
"Thank you ma'ma." he held out his hand to shake.
She took it and smiled reassuringly. "Leave it to me."
