Th'reyos

Th’reyos chuckled a little uneasily at that pairing. One never really knew, he supposed. Only dragons.

}:They will be _great_ together.:{ Zarkarth snapped. The enormity of his paternal pride left not even an ounce of doubt in him for any of the pairs.

One more dear hatchling taken care of, Zarkarth's attention dutifully drifted back to the others. He was pleased with how smoothly things were going, exchanging delight with Jossenth at their incredibly beautiful offspring. He spotted a small brown just a few shades darker than himself inching back from the upper half of his egg, blinking blearily at the world. Zarkarth crooned warmly to him.

The little brown staggered again, looking up at his sire and then surveying his surroundings with quiet, steady curiosity. He blinked a few times more, glistening darkly beneath the haloed hatching lights, and spent a few minutes there calmly gathering strength.

Not too far away was the rather enormous blue, shell fragment still stuck to his head. By now his hide had dried to a soft, smudgy indigo, relaxing and pleasing in a way that was instantly at odds with the quick and gangling sprawl of his new limbs. Indeed, everything about him seemed to indicate his enthusiasm was only beginning to ramp up. He’d shown no signs of being in a hurry freshly hatched -- but now that he had full command of his long, angular body, however, the big blue could bolt toward the many hopeful and inviting faces as fast as he wanted. He wanted them, he needed them, he just had to have --

Her.

_Oh_. He approached with an air of ‘you are _most_ interesting’ and a few gasps piped up through the Stands.

Th’reyos didn’t know why until he looked from the little brown catching his breath to where the blue had brought up beside Cirina, yet another set of adoring and excited eyes squinting up against the brightness to examine her.

Everything went silent. Nothing but the thrumming air daring to speak now.

The blue brushed gently against her, an affectionate pat-like motion. He clearly seemed to _like_ Cirina, although the longer it went on the more unusual the lack of confirmation became. Then, as if either losing interest or catching a silent signal through the air, his head whipped in the opposite direction. One huge, sharply taloned paw raised up, uncertain. Listening. Listening. The angles of the blue's body tightened when his eyes fell on one particular face. Oh. _There_.

Shulamit did not see the excited blue coming until it was already too late -- not that it would have mattered for this was a dragon that would _not_ be stopped. There was never going to be anyone else for him and that eternal love was what came flooding to life across their bond, a sudden scintillating spark in the dark.

The big blue did try to slow before he leaped up to Shulamit and the two of them _did_ lock eyes before the dragonet realized his error -- he was going way. too. fast. and didn’t know how to stop.

Talons slid over the delicate flesh of Shulamit’s face. A light spray of red, and the dragonet letting out a high-pitched squeal of surprise, then alarm. Someone behind them screamed.

The gashes weren’t deep thankfully-- only enough to draw blood and leave the weyrling with some constellation of a scar -- but the quick slicing pain down their new bond had the big blue absolutely frantic to prop his lifemate up and see for himself. }:Oh no, are you okay?! I had no idea that was going to happen! I’m so sorry about that, Mine! I just knew I had to reach you right away and tell you my name’s Yemorth and that I _love_ you.:{

Th’reyos didn’t realize he had Nidre’s hand in his until their fingers were disentangling themselves -- and that was only when they saw the boy was alright. Silence broke open with cheers. And although he clapped heartily for Shu’mi and Yemorth, Th’reyos’ eyes were still glued to Cirina. “Yikes. That poor kid," he murmured to Nidre.

“I thought for sure…” Nidre trailed off. It didn’t really need to be said -- everyone had seen. “I hope this doesn’t make her give up. I hope she’s able to take the interest as a good sign, once she’s past the hurt of it… or maybe she won’t have to -- there’s still more eggs to crack!”

As the dark brown got his wits about him and started moving among the candidates at last, another egg that had been steadily cracking for a long while finally began to break apart enough to free its occupant: a large, smoky-dark bronze, shrugging his way out of his shell to stand in the light of the cavern, eyes whirling red with need and hunger even as he swung his head slowly about to survey his surroundings.

The brown brushed against him on his way by -- not pausing in his own search, just making physical contact as he passed, as if to encourage his brother (or perhaps it was unintentional). Regardless, the bronze gave him only a passing glance, still orienting himself patiently with the world around him. The brown didn’t look back to see if he got a reaction -- instead, he started in one direction, then paused, then went the other way, his pace quickening as he honed in on exactly what he was looking for. }:Dashei!:{ he greeted, pouring love and enthusiasm into his new bond as their eyes met, bringing his big wings to drape in a protective cradle around his rider. }:My name is Dovannath, and you are mine and I am yours!:{

Nearby, a deep blue dragon stepped from the remains of his shell, delicately managing to avoid any shards, even as a big, gangly brown stood up from his own egg and lumbered out into the world on unsteady feet. This second brown tripped on his wingsail, stumbling to the right, then over-corrected towards his left and tripped on his _other_ wingsail, and this time wasn’t able to stop his stumble at all and flailed directly into the blue, sending both young dragons tumbling to the ground in a heap.

There was a sharp squeal from the blue as they went down, and then a line of ichor beading up on his left shoulder. Somehow, between the brown’s efforts to climb off and the blue’s efforts to scramble out from under his brother, they managed to disentangle, and the blue roared at him as best he could. As he rose, at least, the audience breathed a collective sigh of relief -- the dragon’s injury appeared to be only a scratch, not even producing enough ichor to drip onto the Sands.

}:You are well, you are well!:{ Jossenth soothed her injured blue son, pressing her will down on him gently but firmly in an attempt to keep him from panicking himself /between/. }:Find your chosen, they will help and you will feel much better!:{

Perhaps her words calmed him, or perhaps he was already coming to the same conclusion, himself, because he gave one last angry parting bleat at the brown and then turned to rush directly to his new rider. }:Zavallan, Zavallan! It is I, Akariath -- still yours despite my wounds!:{

The brown -- once he finally had his feet under him -- turned the opposite direction in order to do the same, rushing (semi-carefully now) towards his own chosen. }:This is getting frustrating, Kaedin. My name is Zarenth -- I know you’ll help, won’t you? Just until my wings dry. Then I’ll be fine!:{
