H'taysh

--At the Bonfire--

The bonfire was most welcome as the chill from the lake settled into the Weyr. Donnarion patted Selkirth's lovely green side. His gloved fingers couldn't quite give her the scritching she deserved, but the warmth of her hide was very welcome anyway. "Thank you very much for the fire, Selkirth!" He told her, then grinned at H'taysh, "And thank you for stealing firestone. Surely no one is going to notice a rock or two, right?"

“Ehh,” H’taysh waved dismissively, “it’s just a couple, nobody’ll care!” He hoped. “Anyways, it’s no big deal. You guys oughtta get to have a little fun, because if you Impress there won’t be any parties for a long time!”

"My thoughts _exactly_. It'll be a long time before I can have any fun again." Donnarion stepped away from Selkirth with a little reluctance to get closer to H'taysh. He pulled out his flask, took a drink, and passed it over. "As good as a new journeyman could afford. Which is…not very."

Riali took the flask with a smile and passed it to the next person without taking a sip. Hopefully things wouldn’t get too wild, but the bonfire and company felt good. She could imagine getting used to life at the Weyr, whether or not she Impressed.

“Save a sip for me,” Veldhan said to her as he plopped down in between. “You’re Ria, right? Riali, I mean. Can I call you Ria? Ria’s cute.”

“Uhh, no one’s ever called me that,” Riali said, blushing. Was he flirting? Was he friendly? People were so much less reserved at the Weyr. It was confusing. “Do you have a nickname?” she asked, wanting to shift the attention away from her name.

“Sometimes friends call me Veld. Or ‘hey idiot’. Sometimes Vee. Depends on the day I guess.” His grin was wide and friendly. “Call me whatever you want, basically.”

Riali wasn’t sure how to respond to that. Was he flirting? Just friendly? She had never had alcohol, but wished she could drink something, even just to give her hands something to do.

M’gen nudged the female candidate beside him in the semi-circle around the bonfire. “Look at that. They've got the right idea,” he said, motioning to a pair sneaking off into the shadows, their hands gripping each other in an unquestionably intimate manner.

“You guys better get your fill in now. New weyrlinghood comes with a lot of restrictions on that type of thing.” He winked at her suggestively. “And if you need a partner, I will volunteer my services. I'm a giver that way.”

Donnarion caught what he presumed to be discomfort from Riali and sidled closer to the rider. "I volunteer." He said smoothly,"I hear the men particularly have to experience all kinds of new things. Do you happen to know what those are? I'm just a poor holder boy." M'gen took an instinctive step back, and the girl shot an appreciative glance at Donnarion.

A scream startled the group a moment before a plate smashed just outside the light of the fire, sending a group of candidates scattering in panic.
