The classroom was warm and welcome in the winter chill, and it was enough that no matter how passionate the Weyrlingstaff spoke nor how interesting the subject, D'narion struggled to pay attention. The mix of sleepy, curious, and playful voices outside stole his focus away from the theories of weather patterns on Threadfall. He needed to focus, he knew that, but it wasn't nearly as entertaining as the dragonets exploring the environs directly outside the weyrling barracks. Rusaeth's curiosity was front and center as it always was, as natural now as breathing and equally as strange. It was new that he was alert enough after lunch to pace around the yard, the barrier a mental one instead of a physical fence. He wanted to explore the Weyr further, but he didn't want to go too far without his rider with him. He didn't want to get lost, or stuck. The cliffs around the lake were very tall.
There was a crash that D'narion wasn't entirely sure that he physically heard. Rusaeth's surprise and delight hinted at the culprit. **What was that?**
}: Buckets.:{ The brown answered solemnly.
Rusaeth, the size of a runnerbeast but as fat as a pony allowed too much grass, nosed a water bucket across the yard, sending it skittering across the dirt. He bounced after it, his awkward landbound gait sending his full belly swinging as he went. He slowly nudged the bucket upright, the first few times sending it tumbling again until he got the hang of it, then pushed it across the yard again.
A wiry blue clutchmate that Rusaeth innately knew as Korath tried to stake a claim on the bucket. He was half of Rusaeth's size and width, more curious than territorial, and hopped over to investigate the tipped over, now dusty bucket. Rusaeth considered his clutchmate, his eyes temporarily whirling amber before they shifted back to a happy green. He was okay with sharing and playing together. He nudged the bucket towards the blue and he jumped, startled by the movement and the clanging of metal. The blue nudged it, just to test, and then sent it rolling back to Rusaeth with a rumble.
The two began a clumsy game, rolling and nudging and sometimes tossing the bucket into the air. A couple other clutchmates joined in briefly when the bucket clanged their way, pushing it back towards them or nosing it up into an arc across the field. The two of them raced after it. Rusaeth's stubby legs carried him with surprising speed. Korath was getting close to passing him, though, so he acted more on instinct than on any malicious intent. He was still so unsure of his own body and strength that he accidentally body-checked Korath and sent him tumbling with a cry.
}: Sorry! Sorry! :{
**What happened?**
}: Nothing.:{ Rusaeth answered too quickly, even though D'narion could hear all the others. }: Korath fell.:{ He shrieked in surprise when Korath charged him in revenge, though he was too big to bring down easily. He race-hopped away, scooping up the bucket with his snout and hurling it towards Korath.
That shriek definitely echoed into the classroom. D'narion raised his hand. "J'nic, sir? I need to step outside. It was all fun and games until it wasn't."
