“Good morning Piketh!” Sareya greeted brightly as she skipped up the ledge with klah in her hands. And not too early in the morning either. “Is grandma awake yet?”

Piketh regarded the human for a moment before stretching her neck out and offering the girl an eyeridge to scratch. }:She is awake. She is not pleasant yet.:{

Sareya beamed even brighter. She loved it when Piketh talked to her. She put down the klah and lavished scratches all over the gold’s ridges. “It’s okay. She’ll be in a better mood once she drinks what I brought,” the teenager explained.

Rasme was sitting at the dining table, looking as if she’d been struck by a bolt of lighting with the way her frizzy hair was going in all directions. “If you brought klah, girl, then bring it in here,” she called.

“Did Piketh tattle on me?” her effervescent granddaughter said as she came inside with the blessed drink of the morning.

“Of course. She may seem sweet, but she’s a giant tattler.”

Piketh made a noise that sounded highly offended. }:I told you she wasn’t pleasant yet,:{ the gold said, just to Sareya.

Sareya beamed at Piketh’s voice. It just further vindicated her, that she should be a dragonrider too! “Well, she’s a queen and she can do what she wants. Most of the time,” Sareya said as she handed over one mug and sat. “So, rounds this morning, right? But you can tell me about the new Weyrdragonhealer before then?”

Rasme brooded over her cup of morning klah the same way a gold dragon brooded over her clutch of eggs. By the time the cup was half-way empty, the retired goldrider seemed a bit more human.

“The new Weyrdragonhealer is an old friend of mine. Her name is Eyla. You will like her. She’s much more pleasant than I am, but knows her stuff when it comes to the craft.”

“Eyla! That’s a pretty name. Where did you know her from?” Sareya asked eagerly.

“Windswept,” Rasme answered, but provided nothing else as she drained the rest of her klah.

“Windswept! That’s really far away. North of Dolphin Cove, right?”

“That’s right.” Rasme gestured toward her unruly mop of hair. “Do you mind braiding it, girl?”

“Sure!” Sareya answered. She leapt into action. Her long fingers began undoing tangles before neatly organizing her grandmother’s hair into a professional style braid that would hold for the day. “Can you introduce me to her maybe?” she asked. “I should meet her, right? I’ll be working with her too. Maybe even sitting in on lessons with her.”

Rasme appreciated Sareya’s ambitious use of her grandmother’s rank and connection to curry favor with the new Weyrdragonhealer. **Smart girl.**

“Yes, I can introduce you.” She reached up and touched the neat braid. Sometimes C’ris braided her hair. He was rather good at it, but lacked the same sort of creative twist that Sareya used.

“Let’s be on our way then,” Rasme said, pushing up from the table.

Sareya did the same. “I already checked on Inarith before I came over since you were worried about him last night. His flank looks a _lot_ better. There isn’t any more pus. Not that I saw. That’s a good sign, right?”

“A very good sign,” Rasme agreed, once again, impressed by her granddaughter’s drive. **She truly is blood of my blood,** the goldrider thought as they entered the infirmary.
