T'gyrlan

Sybana and Galgaith appeared high over Dolphin Cove just as the sun was passing its zenith.

The humidity of the coastal weyr was a smothering blanket of heat that pricked against Sybana’s skin. It was a jarring contrast to the crisp and frosty morning they had just left at Dragonsfall, and she had half a mind to flee back Between to cooler climes, but that wouldn’t do. It was time to tour the other Weyrs and meet their leaders. She had technically met most of them at Galgaith’s hatching, but it had been such a blur of exhaustion and excitement that she hadn’t retained much.

}:I have spoken to Elleth,:{ Galgaith said. }:They are expecting us.:{

And she had written ahead. They couldn’t retreat now. Besides, the watchdragon was signalling them in.

Galgaith wheeled leisurely down to the sandy weyrbowl. Gleaming and gold and already bigger than most bronze dragons, she made for a conspicuous sight--especially as she was shadowed by an escort.

Bronze Hanassath flew only a few lengths behind her, all burnished muscle and crisp control. He followed the young gold’s slow descent with ease. On his back, T’gyrlan was already stripping out of his flight jacket. As a wingsecond, he’d typically be above babysitting a goldrider on a casual visit to another weyr, but it’d been a while since he’d seen A’kades, so he’d volunteered when the call went out. Surely he could squeeze in a visit to his old mentor while Sybana was in meetings-- and if the familiarity later helped Hanassath during Galgaith’s maiden goldflight…. Well…

No sooner had they landed then he peeled off his helmet and swung down with practiced ease, striding over to the gold to offer Sybana a hand down.

“Sybana?” The voice greeted the goldrider, and the one to whom it belonged stepped up. The woman herself was nothing particularly grand or noticeable. A heart-shaped face and large, jade green eyes, coupled with freckles scattered over her nose and cheeks, along with her long, brown hair parted into two braids, made her appear younger than her twenty-four turns. Her smile came easily, brightening her visage and reflecting in her eyes. It was a smile not just for the one visitor, but for the other who joined her.

Inclining her head toward Sybana, once Meledei greeted the other weyrwoman, her attention turned briefly to the bronzerider who accompanied her. The knots told her more, and an eyebrow arched upward ever so briefly before descending into its normal position. Another nod followed the first. “Well met, both of you. I’m Meledei, rider to gold Elleth.”

Behind her, a petite gold lifted her head and regarded the other dragons who had come to visit the Weyr along with their riders. To those observing, the two golds were an interesting study in contrasts. Galgaith was large and craggy, her form like the precious stone freshly dug from the heart, with all its nooks and crannies and crevices forming into legs, wings, head, and tail. Elleth, by comparison, was small, smaller than the bronze, and even some of the larger browns, her smooth, sleek lines reminiscent of ore taken, heated, and refined into a precious sculpture. Where Galgaith’s hue was a brilliant, yellow, like that of a field of goldenrod growing wild in a vast plain, their bright faces turned toward the sky and reflecting more of their radiance from the sun, Elleth’s was paler, the sun’s rays dancing over her hide, making the viewer wonder if she was truly silver rather than gold until the eyes realised it was merely a trick of the light.

:}You are both welcome to join me.:{ Elleth offered pleasantly, her eyes whirling a deep, cool forest green of contentment. }:The sun is pleasantly warm.:{

Sybana, dismounting with T’gyrlan’s aid, removed her helmet and shook out her hair-- and then there was another study in contrasts. Both goldriders were green eyed brunettes and close in height and build, but the similarities ended there. Meledei, with her freckles and twin braids, seemed approachably cute and warm. Sybana, on the other hand, had all the conventional beauty her dragon lacked. She was obnoxiously lovely, even fresh from a flight, the color high in her cheeks and her curls artfully windblown.

“Well met, Meledei,” Sybana smiled, and the genuine warmth of it softened the remote elegance of her young features. “My duty to you and yours. This is T’gyrlan, wingsecond of Cobalt.” She gestured to the bronzerider, who cut a shallow bow but seemed otherwise content to stay in the background.

“He’s just here to make sure I stay out of trouble,” she laughed lightly, as though that was an actual concern-- and not a deeper issue of Dragonsfall not trusting the security in its sister Weyrs. Meledei, she noticed, did not seem to have a guard or escort of any sort. “Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful Weyr.”

}:It is very warm,:{ Galgaith rumbled, moving to join Elleth with Hanassath following at a polite distance. }:My Sybana does not like it, but I do.:{

“Thank you for visiting.” Meledei replied warmly.

}:No need to remain behind.:{ The gold crooned to the bronze. }:There is room for all of us.:{ And to show this, she shifted about so that there was space both for the gold and for the bronze to lie together with her.

Casting a glance at Elleth, Meledei smiled before motioning for her own visitors to follow. “Come on, I’ll give you a tour. Of course, if either of you has any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask them.”
