Description: The Weyrwoman welcomes the new Weyrdragonhealer
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 6, day 23 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: Teigan, Q'vettan, Aydhan, Ashela
A true Weyrwoman wouldn't anxiously watch the skies for a particular green dragon's arrival. She wouldn't pester her dragon once a candlemark to ask if they'd arrived yet, or if Imbeth knew when Thakkorth planned on arriving. She wouldn't put an enormous vase of fresh cut boughs into the new Weyrdragonhealer's weyr, either.
But being Weyrwoman was still very new, and Thiseta was determined to still be herself even with the new weight of Barrier Lake's knots on her shoulders. So when Imbeth informed her that Thakkorth had finally arrived, she was there to wave at Eyla in person from Thakkorth's new ledge.
It was impossible not to smile at the sight below.
The Weyr was everything the rumors and stories had said: the glittering lake, the ships resting at port, exterior buildings standing tall, new, and pocked on either side of the weyrrim, strange yet enticing.
There was no trace of the shock and terror of recent events from this height. No tarnish invading its shine that day. People were still milling, dragons still wheeling through the air like colorful dust motes in soft sunlight. Then she spied a familiar figure waving, and her smile spread even wider.
Thakkorth angled for the ledge, arranging herself with care, as always, while Eyla hopped down with a soft 'thump'. Her goggles went up, her helmet came off, all the better take in the sight of someone familiar -- and yet not. Not anymore. She was no longer just Thiseta.
"You _are_ a sight for these sore, old eyes." Eyla pulled the young woman into a tight hug and even kissed her cheek. She'd needed this familiar face more than she knew. Upon releasing her, her expression flickered with stern seriousness. "You know, you didn't need to take time out to meet us. You must have so much to do. We would have found our way around, hmm, Thakkorth?" Still, her smile wouldn't be denied. "Congratulations, my dear Weyrwoman. How are you?"
"Better now that you're here. Thank you again for agreeing to come. It's so good to see you." Thiseta squeezed Eyla's hands, reluctant to let her go. Perhaps the greenrider would dissolve into a puff of smoke or reveal herself to be a particularly vivid daydream.
"Of course! I'm happy to be here, and grateful to have gotten your invitation. It was high time for us to have a new adventure." Eyla squeezed lightly back, then looped their arms and guided them into the weyr, leaving Thakkorth -- still loaded up like a draft beast -- curled as comfortably as possible on her ledge without a word, calmly observing the ships almost close enough to touch.
She cast a quick, measured glance across the room. The weyr walls were smooth, freshly painted. The lights bright, modern, crisp and unlike anything she'd grown up with at Thayan Peak. Eyla, eyeing the vase of bows with smile, brought them into the furnished living space. "So, tell me _everything_. What's this new Weyrleader like?"
"Q'vettan? He's..." Thiseta paused. "He was the Weyrharper before Tzenketh caught Imbeth, although I didn't really know him then. He was Weyrleader at Igen Weyr in the North for a while before he transfered here. He's smart."
Those credentials gave Eyla pause, too. "Well, that is encouraging." Not some brainless upstart with the fastest bronze. "You don't need to be teaching or handholding someone on top of everything else."
A soft, happy chirp heralded the arrival of Aconite, who pressed himself against Eyla's free hand, demanding the contact and attention as his eyes whirled at the two woman, unsure who to look at. She humored him for a moment and then turned bright hazel eyes back to Thiseta. "How's Teigan settled in? And your Imbeth, of course."
"Just fine, although-- oh!" Thiseta broke into a wide grin as a small green flit appeared and landed clumsily on her outstretched arm. Her head bobbed as she examined the two newcomers. "I have a flt now! Aydhan gave me an egg as a welcome present."
"Hello there. What a little beauty." Eyla crowed, which Aconite took as permission to do the same. He scooted closer to the little green with bright eyes along the back of the sofa. "She's lovely. What's her name?"
"I don't really have one yet," Thiseta admitted sheepishly. "Nothing's stuck, so she's a Nobody for now."
"Sometimes they have a way of naming themselves." The greenrider said knowingly, eyeing the blue chirruping encouragement to the little Nobody. "So, Aydhan gave her to you. That was thoughtful of her. I'd heard she's from somewhere up North - Telgar, was it? How is all that working out, is she a competent 'second to you?" There may have been an undercurrent of 'she better be' with her curiosity, but otherwise Eyla's eyes sparkled merrily.
Thiseta watched Nobody hop from her arm to the back of a chair, the better to check out the new arrival. "Aydhan and I get along marvellously, thank Faranth. After Windswept Isles... well, I was nervous. You know how it can be."
"Oh yes." Eyla rolled her eyes, "A bag of wet felines." She was relieved it wasn't like that here, at least. Thiseta had already been through so much, and as Weyrwoman there would be even more lying ahead. She had her head on straight, and petty squabbles and power plays were a game better suited to the likes of Ashela these days. "I'm really looking forward to meeting her."
"You'll like her. But tell me about you-- how are you? Was the transfer smooth?" Thiseta asked.
"Yes, thank Faranth. I'm almost inclined to feel insulted by how easy it was." Eyla joked with a wry grin. More likely was that arguing with her was an unpleasant experience, and a mutually desired transfer specifically requested by a Weyrwoman formerly of the same Weyr might be difficult to refuse or explain. Regardless, the reality was she was here, and sitting here felt right. "I tried to convince Jovys, but she thinks a visit every couple months will be more than sufficient. I'll keep working on her. She has her father's stomach when it comes to the infirmary though." On that note, "I'm quite eager to see it. If this is what a simple weyr here looks like..."
"You'll love it. It has all the modern conveniences. Great lighting, new shelving, excellent water pressure, and it smells much fresher than Windswept Isles." Thiseta fairly shone with pride, as if she'd had anything to do with any of it.
"I feel a child at Turn's End." Eyla laughed, "I still have to get Thakkorth unburdened, but I already know I'll be popping in before the day is out."
The green interjected softly, }:I'm fine.:{
**You're sweet, you mean.**
"But first, I really could do with a cup of klah." Eyla sighed contentedly, squeezing Thiseta's hand, "Join me?"
