It's a Human Thing

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 12th June 2006

Characters: M'galec, Kustaava
Description: M'galec inspects Kustaava's Mindath
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 6 of Turn 3

M'galec checked his list. He had already inspected Sh'vair's blue Nidogath. The little fellow seemed in excellent health, despite a spot that needed oiling on his hind leg. It was easily taken care of, and the lad seemed appropriately appalled and apologetic. Oniya's Sarlenth was in perfect condition, and the young woman surprised the Weyrlingmaster Second with her maturity for one so young.

So who was next... Kustaava. Ah yes, the falling down vomiting weyrling. Well, she had better not be falling down on her duties as a rider! M'galec would spare her no tolerance if it proved she was not taking care of Mindath properly! How that girl had managed to Impress...

}:Mindath loves her rider very much,:{ Dwarkanath reminded him. }:She is happy with her choice. As am I.:{ The bronzerider had to smile fondly at the the thoughts of love that radiated between himself as his dragon. Yes, of course the little one would adore her rider. But M'galec would be sure that adoration was reciprocated.

Ava rubbed down the last patch of oil into Mindath's chest and then stepped back to admire her. The dark green hide glistened in sunlight.
"Any itchy spots I missed?" she asked. }: No. Do I look pretty?:{ "You look absolutely beautiful," Ava replied, her heart swelling with pride and love. "That she does," M'galec said with a smile down at the little green which faded slightly when he looked at her lifemate. "Are you ready for the inspection, Weyrling Kustaava?"

"Yes, sir!" Ava replied and pulled her thin frame straight. What flesh she had gained during her candidate time had been melted away with the hard work of junior weyrlinghood. "Good," the bronzerider said with a curt nod. At least she had lost the attitude for now. He was afraid it was going to become a real problem. "Will you please ask her to extend her right wing."

**Extend your right wing, Mindy,** Ava asked. The young dragonet started to unfurl her wing, unfortunately it was the left one. Ava groaned inwards. "Right one, please, that's left!" }: Oops,:{ Mindath quickly switched wings. "Thank you Mindath," M'galec smiled as he stepped over to inspect the sail. He ran a finger over each finger bone, checking for bumps or painful spots. The weyrling master checked to be sure they had been well cared for. Almost begrudgingly, he had to admit so far he saw no obvious fault. "Now the left please."

Mindath complied him without a hesitation. "Well, you certainly are a beauty, are you not, Mindath," the bronzerider praised the little one as he repeated the process on the left wing. Still nothing to find fault in. "All right, I'm just going to run my hands along your little body here and make sure your hide is all right." He ran his hands along the hide along her tail and underbelly, letting his sensitive fingers search for any dry patches or cracks. He found none. "Could you lift your tail for me? That's a good girl." Everything seemed fine. Ava fidgeted, was he going to inspect her inch by inch? "Are you sure you don't need magnifying lens?" she muttered.

"Excuse me, weyrling? Did you say something?" M'galec asked as he head shot up. He eyed her suspiciously. "Do you have a problem?"

"No, nothing. Everything is fine," Ava quickly replied with innocent look on her face. }: Why did you say you said nothing when you did say something?:{ puzzled Mindath asked.

** It's a human-thing, don't mind it.** "Back feet, please." The slight progress she had made in his estimation was quickly slipping. Well, that girl would learn her place, by Faranth she would, and _before_ she graduated to a wing and killed someone with her attitude.

Still confused, Mindath turned to the bronze: }: Do you know why humans say they didn't when they did? :{ }:Their ways are mysterious sometimes, Mindath. There are some things we will never understand about our lifemates. We just have to love them and accept them anyway. We may not understand what they do, but they are perfect anyway,:{ the bronze replied patiently.

Mindath let out a rumbling sigh. }: Humans!:{ "Kustaava, have you been taking care to scrub the bottoms of her feet as you should?" M'galec asked accusingly. "Look at the mud and dirt around her claws!"

"I have washed them! But they get dirty again after she gets up from the water. And she does love wiggling her feet in mud," Ava answered defensively. }: I like when it squirts between my claws :{ Mindath happily provided. "And you did not think to ask her to rise it off?"

Ava just muttered something and stared her own toes. She hadn't thought of that. "Next time ask her to rise it off after she plays in the mud. You will thank me when you have your own weyr you have to keep clean." **But Dwarkanath, make sure and let Mindath know I think she's a perfectly beautiful little green.** His bronze relayed the message. "Now, front feet please."

"Yes, sir," Ava said with resigned voice. He inspected each foot in turn. Despite the mud, they seemed well cared for. In general, Mindath seemed perfectly cared for. }:Mindath is very happy with her choice,:{ Dwarkanath rumbled approvingly.

He rubbed the green's eyeridge and thanked her for her cooperation. If only her rider was so easy to get along with...
