Description: The brothers chat with one of the weyr residents
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 8, day 12 of Turn 12
Sialla checked the tag on her parcel, then referenced the weyr roster, comparing name and ID to her map of the rider's quarters. She wanted to ensure that she had the right location in mind before beginning the long trek across the weyr. Satisfied, she hefted the rather heavy satchel of freshly laundered clothing over her shoulder. Typically, delivery of clean laundry could be pawned off on the weyrlings; today, however, Sialla had been instructed that the staff was making the pickups and deliveries themselves. Sialla accepted the order good-naturedly. She did not mind hard work.
With a slight _omph_, she relieved herself of her package in front of the appropriate doorway, knocking politely to alert the resident of her arrival. As she was waiting patiently to see if there would be an answer, she ticked off the outstanding job on her notes. Suddenly, she heard the sound of footfall behind her, echoing in the previously empty corridor.
"Hi Sialla," A'lin said, smiling at the familiar face. They had spoken briefly in the dining hall a few times and, while he barely knew her, he had the feeling they could become friends. "Laundry delivery?"
"Hello there," another voice said before the young woman could respond. L'rin looked Sialla over, then gave an approving smile. "How do you two know each other?"
Sialla grinned brightly at A'lin. She liked the young bluerider, who she found to be reserved but not unfriendly in their past interactions. She nodded politely at his companion, whom she didn't know. "Hey, I'm Sialla. It's nice to meet you." She recognized the look he gave her; she was seeing it more in more frequently lately, as her 17 Turn body developed in all the places that the men seemed to like. At least, the ones who were into girls.
She turned back to A'lin. "Yep, I'm on delivery duty today! I want to make sure all you riders have nice clean underthings to wear when you're fighting Threadfall." She crossed her arms self-consciously, a meager protection against the other rider's gaze.
Still addressing A'lin, she nodded towards his new wingrider knots. "So no more werling knots, huh? I see you're riding with the most important wing now. How is Oberlith these days?" She was pleased with herself for remembering the dragon's name; she did not often get a chance to interact with the magnificent beasts, but she found them beautiful.
"We've just run into each other a few times," A'lin explained to L'rin. And, to Sialla, "He's my brother. We Impressed together."
The bluerider couldn't help but look at the new knots when she mentioned them. "Well, I don't know about most important wing, but Oberlith is loving being able to work closely with the golds. It's nerve wracking though, not being a weyrling anymore."
L'rin was baffled at the interaction between his brother and a ... drudge? She was cute, so maybe he was trying to get her in his bed. The two had studiously not spoken about the preparation they were supposed to have done for mating flights and, the few times Yasanth had chased, A'lin and Oberlith hadn't been there. He knew how shy his brother was, so maybe he needed some help. And if it turned out he wasn't interested, maybe L'rin would step in. "We were going to go for a swim and to wash our dragons. Are you almost done with work?" he asked.
Sialla smiled encouragingly at A'lin. "I'm sure you both are doing great."
Glancing back to L'rin, she answered: "Well, this was my last delivery, but I've got to do some final sign-off in the caverns before I can leave. Are you going to the lake? Or up to the coast?" She pictured the freezing water of the lake below and gave a mental shiver. It would be amazing to see the dragons up close and personal again, but Sialla did not want to catch ill in the chilly weather.
"We hadn't decided yet. But we can go anywhere," L'rin said. It was still exhilarating to know they could be anywhere on Pern in just a few heartbeats. "Hey, what about that beach J'nic gave you the visualization for?" he asked his brother. "The one off the Northern Continent?"
"That could work," Alin said, deferring to L'rin. "Oberlith and I can quickly check; make sure the weather is ok over there. What do you think?" he asked Sialla. "We could meet you in the Weyrbowl when you're ready." While he was glad to spend time with his brother, things were still a bit awkward between them. They had decided to pretend things were like before, just with dragons. A'lin wished he could be more open with Lrin, but didn't want to upset the delicate balance they had reached. Having Sialla join would be a relief.
Sialla felt a flicker of excitement at the idea of heading to the Northern continent for the afternoon for some much-needed relaxation. It had been a long cold season, and despite her brother being a rider, Sialla had not left the Weyr in months. She was still a little wary of L'rin's intentions, but she felt comfortable enough to risk it with A'lin being there. The bluerider appeared less assertive than his brother, and Sialla felt a desire to get to know him better. Plus, it was an opportunity to ride dragonback.
"That actually sounds fantastic! I'll probably be able to meet you down there in about a candlemark, if that's ok." Sialla gave the two riders another bright smile and absently ran a hand through her hair, pushing it out of her face.
"That's great," A'lin said, before his brother could complain about her taking too long. "We'll see you soon." He was looking forward to it.
