Lyani

Lyani

Notes:
***********

He had noticed her a few days ago, striding into the Dining Cavern as
though she owned the world. At first, he thought she was a visiting
goldrider, with the way she moved and interacted like pulling objects
into her orbit, but then he caught her greenrider knots and his jaw
nearly hit the floor. She was stunning! Was she a guest? Or a
transfer?

He'd have to find out but duty called and M'trel had to answer just
then. He shelved the thought of her away for another day.

**There she is!** he thought one evening, spotting her across the room.

}: Who? :{ Noruith inquired.

**The greenrider from the other day. Look how beautiful she is.**

There was quiet between them for a moment until Noruith answered, }:
That is Phyllameth's rider. In Isarth's Wing. They just transferred
here a few days ago. :{

What luck! M'trel navigated his way over to her to introduce himself.
"I hear that a welcome is in order to you, lady," he said smoothly,
surprising himself because usually he was quite socially awkward.
Maybe he was making a breakthrough!

Lyani looked up from her plate with an arched eyebrow, her cool blue
eyes assessing M'trel with a quick sweep. He seemed to pass some
unspoken test because she nudged out the chair across from her. "Have
a seat while you welcome me," she said.

He managed to sit without falling over at his luck. "I'm M'trel,
Noruith's rider," he introduced himself. "And you are?"

"Lyani of Phyllameth," she offered him her hand, he seemed like the
type to enjoy that gesture. Her eyes landed on his shoulder knots. "A
wingthird, hm?"

"Newly promoted," he said as he shook her hand. "Well, a few months ago."

}: More than a few months ago, :{ Noruith grumbled. M'trel ignored
him. He was going for humble here!

"Where did you transfer in from?" M'trel asked.

"Far Island, you ever been there?" she asked, tearing off a piece of
her roll and popping it into her mouth.

He shook his head. "Tell me about it."

Lyani arched an eyebrow. "Well, it's an island," she grinned. "It's
beautiful, honestly. Having lived there my entire life, I couldn't
imagining transferring somewhere without sand and waves. Dolphin Cove,
of course, became the most logical place."

"Good choice," M'trel agreed. "We do have dolphins here. Well, nearby.
But I assume you had dolphins there too?" The question now was _why_
had she transferred here.

"There wasn't a local pod, but you'd occasionally see some passing
through." Lyani was forming quick calculations in her brain. He was
cute. He was the Weyrleader's wingthird, and so far he could string
enough words together to make a sentence... "I've heard a lot about
the dolphins here, but I haven't ventured down to the Dolphin Hall
yet. Have you ever been?"

He nodded. "A few times. Noruith enjoys talking with the dolphins.
They know different things then he does. His realm is the sky, theirs
is the water. So he learns things like sonar, currents -- that stuff.
If you want, I wouldn't mind taking you down there. They're pretty
friendly, extroverted. Actually, I don't think I've met an antisocial
dolphin yet."

"Let's plan a day for that then, I'd like to go see if they're as
smart as everyone claims." And this would give her an opportunity to
see how M'trel looked without his clothes on.

Elated at how easy that had been to secure a sort of date with her,
M'trel grinned broadly. "How about tomorrow? Or is that too soon? It's
not an official rest day but I have the afternoon off." He couldn't
wait to show her that dolphins were smart! She'd be so pleasantly
surprised!

Lyani was inwardly pleased at how eager M'trel clearly was - eager was
usually good, as long as they weren't _too_ clingy. "Tomorrow
afternoon will be fine, I have morning drills."

He rapped his knuckles on the table in delight. "That sounds great.
I'll have Noruith keep in touch with Phyllameth, if that's alright."

"Absolutely," the greenrider said with an easy, seductive smile.

Little did he realize it at the time, but M'trel would do a lot of things for that smile. He grinned goofily back. "I'll let you get back to your meal then. See you tomorrow!"

}:He's very enthusiastic,:{ Phyllameth commented.

**It's cute, though.** Lyani was smiling as she went back to her plate.
