O'rosin was exhausted by the time he clambered onto Aeoluth and directed him to what was hopefully N'tan's weyr. Aeoluth still buzzed with a mix of unspent energy and anxiety over his rider's distress, which did nothing but feed into O'rosin's. The brown landed roughly on the ledge, rumbling an excited greeting at the other brown and stood still just long enough for O'rosin to dismount before bounding over.
"No no no Aeoluth that is a _stranger_!" O'rosin called. Aeoluth stopped roughly as if pulled on a leash, sliding a little on the stone as he tried to control the momentum.
}: Not a stranger! :{ Aeoluth protested, but looked questioningly over at the other dragon to confirm.
**Be polite, please.** O'rosin begged, though he peered into the weyr beyond. "N'tan, sir?" He called.
The older brown had gotten up to move out of Aeoluth’s way, and when the younger brown bounded over, he quite happily put his head down to headbutt the other brown in greeting. It wasn’t rough enough to knock him over, but it certainly wasn’t gentle.
“I don’t think that was necessary, do you Bastiath?”
}:He started it!:{ There was zero remorse in the response.
N’tan appeared at the opening, looking wearily amused. “O’rosin? Come on in. There might be a wrestling match out there in a minute. Just not-”
}:Not on the ledge:{ Bastiath completed the sentence reluctantly.
“That’s about the best I can promise,” the middle-aged man said. “He’s the reason I went grey at thirty and bald by thirty five. Can I get you some tea? Klah? Ale? Have a seat.” There were several large, cushy chairs in the main area of the weyr.
O'rosin ran a hand through his own too-long hair, suddenly stressed for different reasons. "I'm fine, thank you. Are we…not going out?" He asked. He expected that they were going to go circle around the weyr in formation like his lessons with J'lor.
“Probably in a few minutes, but I wanted to ask some questions. And it’s probably easier to let those two greet each other. Bastiath focuses better when he only has to think about one thing at a time, so it’s easier to let him get his excitement about having a visitor out first.”
Probably for the best, because the shuffle behind O'rosin meant the roughhousing was beginning. He flinched at the yelp as Aeoluth was shoved off the ledge. "Aeoluth will go all day if I let him." He admitted as he sat straight-backed on the edge of what should have been a comfortable chair.
SInce he hadn’t picked a drink, O’rosin was handed a cup of water as there was a woosh of air as Bastiath also dropped off the ledge to follow his “prey”. N’tan tilted his ear that way for a moment, but when there were no further noises of alarm, he assumed both browns had made it to the ground to resume the wrestling match.
“That’ll get better. When you were his age you had a one track mind, too, I’m sure.” He sat himself across from O’rosin.
He was vaguely aware of Bastiath giving the other brown a sharp smack with his tail as a warning when the match got too close to one of the ground weyrs, and it was soon moved more towards the open ground. “So. I hear you’ve been having trouble in weyrling lessons?”
O'rosin felt the smack and also the resounding glee from the correction. Aeoluth understood it, and it didn't come with the anxiety and restrictions from being punished in their lessons. He held the cup of water awkwardly in his lap. "I'm trying," He said hastily, "Aeoluth is doing his best. It takes me a lot longer to learn all the formations and what we should be doing, and when I try to tell him he just…goes too far. Like, our first flight, he was so excited that he started before I was buckled and I fell. J'lor had us doing laps around the training area until Aeoluth would behave, but we just ended up running around the area until he called it off."
N’tan successfully kept a straight face, “I imagine that was frustrating for everyone. Alright. I’ll bet you’ve gotten faster with the buckles. Is he just very excitable in general? Or actually disobedient?” He could feel Bastiath’s own delight at having someone to wrestle with, pitting experience against youthful energy. N’tan just hoped he wasn’t going to feel it in the morning.
"He's not! He's a good boy." O'rosin said quickly in a tone that implied that he didn't quite believe it. "He knows he shouldn't, sometimes because he knows but mostly because I tell him, but he can't help it. Like he knows that if he makes a mess hunting he's going to need a bath, and he doesn't want to have a bath, but he comes back to the weyr covered in blood and telling me he needs to go to the bath." O'rosin paused, realizing the story was dumb. "The Weyrlingmaster thinks we'll get someone killed if he clears us for Threadfall."
Nodding, N’tan said, “Well, how about we go for a little flight and see how he does? Just a slow mosey over to to the ‘hall and back. He and Bastiath can have a little race back. I’ll bet he’d like that.”
"I don't think it'll end up being _slow_, but I can try." O'rosin said, but he set the untouched water down and went to stand, "We've been doing better in formations though, and listening to directions." The biggest problem would be getting Aeoluth back, though the thought of a short flight along the coast and a race back had the brown excitedly detangling from his new best friend and bounding back.
“We’ll see,” N’tan said, in a tone that implied he didn’t particularly care. “Well, let’s go.” Standing, he set aside a half-full cup of tea and went to his ledge. When the browns scrambled back up, he said in the same casual tone, “We’re going to fly over to the Dolphin Hall. Aeoluth, I want to see how well you do holding a position on our left flank. And if you do well, maybe we’ll have a nice race back to the Weyr. If not, Bastian here will demonstrate a good following position instead. How about that?” He didn’t seem interested in waiting for a response, instead pulling himself onto his own brown’s back. He did buckle himself in with some sense of urgency, as Bastian fairly vibrated with impatience.
}: Yes! :{ Aeoluth supplied, uncaring or unaware that N'tan couldn't hear him. He shuffled excitedly and impatiently as O'rosin struggled to climb aboard. He only lowered when O'rosin tried to buckle himself in, getting ready to pounce into the air after Bastiath. }: Let's go let's go. :{
