Jeyme

}:Hevreth says his rider is awake now if you would like to visit.:{ Quinneth relayed to Jeyme as the greenrider stood in her tiny wingthird's office shuffling paperwork around.

**Oh, thank Faranth. I'd much rather be visiting the injured than _this_.** Sometimes being a wingthird wasn't very glamorous- alright, _most_ of the time it was incredibly _unglamarous_, but especially when it came to copy work.

Making neat stacks out of the papers and hides, Jeyme left them in a complicated series of crosshatched patterns that would leave a stranger completely confused by her method of organization, but she knew _exactly_ where everything was... Or so she said.

Closing and locking her office door, Jeyme inhaled a big gulp of fresh air as she strode to the infirmary. It felt good to stretch her legs and get some natural light before heading into Barrier Lake's advanced infirmary.

"Good morning, Ethrel," she greeted the junior journeywoman who was frequently the one stationed behind the main desk.

"Good morning, ma'am. Here for your rounds?"

Jeyme smiled. "You bet. Quinneth told me Si'gril is awake?"

"That's right," Ethrel confirmed. "Journeyman Zaverin is with him right now."

Jeyme's eyes lit up a bit at the mention of Zaverin. They had shared a _very_ good evening together on Turn's End. Since then, the man had been a guest in her bed at least once a sevenday.

"Thank you, Ethrel."

Ethrel merely winked and waved Jeyme on.

Before entering Si'gril's room, Jeyme's hands rose to make sure her hair was in place, and that her tunic was laying just right. She rolled her eyes a little at herself. It wasn't as if Zaverin hadn't seen her with tousled after-sex-hair.

"Knock, knock," Jeyme called while rapping on the door.

Zaverin turned at the sound of the voice, and an echo of a smile touched his lips. He had to admit that he didn't mind seeing the greenrider. Although their encounter on Turn's End had been largely induced by alcohol, Zaverin had since found the woman very easy to be around.

Normally, he struggled being around dragonriders, because of the painful memories of his own Euvimeth that it brought up. Jeyme, however, never made him feel as if he were missing anything. She also never tried to "cheer him up" or try to force him to be "normal" the way other women had in the past. She allowed him to just _be_, and she seemed content with the little piece of himself that he could give her.

"Good morning, Wingthird," Zaverin greeted in his soft rasp.

The corner of Si'gril's mouth lifted in a grimacing smile. "Ma'am."

Jeyme's eyes left Zaverin's as she approached Si'gril's bedside. "How are you feeling?" she asked.

The left side of Si'gril's face was still covered by a bandage, but Jeyme had seen the scoring underneath when he'd been unconscious.

"Some better. I'd feel a lot better with a little more fellis for the pain," Si'gril looked from Jeyme to Zaverin pointedly.

The contraband, extra bottle of fellis in Zaverin's healer pocket suddenly felt as if it weighed as much as a sack of firestone. He had carefully rearranged the bottles on the stockroom shelves so no one would notice the difference, and then he'd painstakingly adjusted the inventory checklist as well.

Jeyme placed a sympathetic hand on Si'gril's arm.

Zaverin studied her face, finding the sympathy he saw etched on it beautiful. The fact that Jeyme was always checking on riders in her Wing, seeing to their emotional and mental health and not just their physical health, was what made her especially attractive to Zaverin.

"We have to listen to the healers, Si'gril. They know what's best." Jeyme's voice was soft and gentle. "I'm sure Zaverin will take good care of you. Won't you, Journeyman?"

Zaverin's hand slipped into his pocket, his fingers wrapping around the bottle of fellis. "Of course, I will."

"There. You see? Is there anything you need from your weyr that I could bring you to make you more comfortable?" Jeyme asked Si'gril.

"No, ma'am. The healers have been taking real good care of me."

"Okay, then. I'll update J'nus on your progress. I'll check in on you again in a couple of days." She patted his arm before turning and spearing Zaverin with a look. "Can I see you in the hallway for a second?"

A brief flash of fear stabbed through Zaverin's body, as if she knew what he was planning with the bottle hidden in his pocket.

"I'll be right back, Si'gril," he told the bluerider before following Jeyme into the hall.

"Will I be seeing you tonight?" she asked as soon as they were alone.

Relief trickled through Zaverin, and then a small spark of pleasure took its place. "My shift is a long one today. I won't be done until around midnight," he warned.

"That's okay. I'll wait up," she smiled.

Zaverin's lips twitched with the hint of a smile. "Which means you'll _absolutely_ be sawing logs on your couch by the time I get there." He watched her cheeks blush lightly. "Don't worry," he leaned in to whisper in her ear, "I give a very good wake-up call."

A delicious shiver raced down Jeyme's back. "I look forward to it."

Another healer passed by them in the hallway, giving the pair a knowing smirk as they did.

"I'd better let you get back to work."

"I'll see you later," Zaverin promised, sending Jeyme off with a pat to her backside that made her turn around and smack at his hand with a laugh.

The moment the greenrider turned the corner, all life left Zaverin's face, and his fingers relaxed their grip on the bottle of fellis.

"Now, Si'gril, let's see what we can do for that pain you were talking about," Zaverin said as he entered the patient's room again.
