Br'elt

Br'elt

Notes:

~~~~~~~~~
The bay glittered with little diamonds, winking brightly, as Werreth and Utreth appeared over Barrier Lake. "Well, that's a lovely sight," Br'elt remarked happily to Werreth, who had fanned his wings out to hover briefly so that his rider could get a steady first look at their new home. Just beyond Werreth's wingtip was Utreth, her dainty green form trying to do the same for her rider C'lest, but Br'elt could see that her eyes were whirling with mischief. "She's already up to something, isn't she?" he asked Werreth with a grin.
}: She wants to know what that tall building is to the left. The spindly one, :{ the brown dragon asked.
Br'elt followed the dragon's gaze. "Oh! That's the lighthouse! Isn't that a neat thing for our new home. We'll get to see a lot more ships here by the looks of it. Won't have to go--whoa!"
At some unspoken word, both dragons had folded their wings into a sharp dive, Utreth taking the lead. Werreth rumbled playfully as Br'elt leaned low in the straps. Just like they had as weyrlings, the two dragons began a breathtaking race across their new home, careening around the lighthouse, warbling to the watchdragon as they passed, skimming the diamonds on the bay, veering up to avoid one of the docked ships, and passing not a claw-length away from the Star Stones before beginning a wide circle back around.
Werreth followed Utreth through another exhilarating race but veered off casually at the end }: We should probably report in, :{ he said with a chuckle. }: We aren't irresponsible weyrlings anymore. :{
}: Says you! :{ Utreth shot back playfully.
Werreth and Br'elt watched as their best friends went through dizzying race, cutting corners in ways that only greens could. "One day, she's going to clip a wing doing that," Br'elt chuckled. "Reckless little green." He scratched Werreth's shoulder. "Good thing you're a sensible brown." On days like today, it didn't feel like a decade together. But when Br'elt looked back on the last ten Turns, he began to feel their weight. There had been a lot more downs than ups in that decade.
But they were together. They had learned a lot in that time as well. Coming here would be a good thing. A fresh new Weyr that needed eager minds to help get it off the ground. And, as C'lest had said, "New Turn, new you," though he meant it also for himself. They'd done a lot of discovery, a lot of growing up at Dragonsfall, but now it was time to try something new.
"Start heading in. I bet she follows," Br'elt said.
Werreth chuckled as he tucked in his wings. }: Maybe. :{ He aimed for the Weyrbowl as he spoke with the watchdragon. }: I can drop you off at the Weyrleader's quarters instead since it looks like it's a bit of a walk from where we land. :{
"No need," Br'elt said. "It'll do us good to stretch our legs and stroll through the new place. It's got a lot more cool buildings to look at for sure." His eyes had fallen on the waterfall hydro plant with interest. "Not lacking in amenities, that's good," he remarked.
}: All I'll need is sun and sand. Plenty of both here, :{ Werreth said as he backwinged to land. }: Utreth is coming. Duck your head. :{
Br'elt obeyed. Just in time to feel the rush of green wings skimming way too close above him. "Hey! Watch the hair!" he shouted up at C'lest. But he was grinning. Werreth let out a barking roar at his friend, wordlessly telling her to rein it in. "Bossing her around works?" Br'elt joked as he slid down.
}: Sometimes. We can play later. And easier without you riders. She knows this. She's just being silly. :{ But his tone lacked rancor. Br'elt briefly wondered if their new home would be the start of them learning how to step up in leadership. Or maybe a healthy, permanent relationship. He'd always wanted that. It sucked that it hadn't happened with--
He rubbed the back of his head. Too soon to think about any that. He had a lot of settling in to do first. He waited for Utreth to land daintily nearby, grinning at C’lest as he dismounted.
"Come on, Cel," Br'elt said to his friend as he ruffled C'lest's blonde hair and then draped an arm across his shoulders. "Let's go explore our new home."
