}: We're here, Reanth. :{ Tymborikath announced smoothly as she appeared out of /between/ above Dragonsfall Weyr. She knew exactly which weyr it was, and aside from a few rumbles and nods of greeting towards the local bronzes, she took a lazy circle down to land on the green's ledge.
The crisp summer air was familiar to Aydhan, and she was happy she had remembered to dress in her warmer gear she'd kept from High Reaches. She didn't miss it nearly as much as she thought she would.
"Thanks for the ride." Aydhara said as they landed and Aydhan slid down the gold's side. "Tym, can you drop me off in the Weyrbowl? I won't go far."
}: Of course. :{ Tymborikath didn't speak to the child, but fixed one whirling green eye at Aydhan and rumbled an assent.
"Remember what we talked about, love." Aydhan said with a smile and a nod to both. To Aydhara, to watch herself and be polite as a guest at the Weyr. To Tymborikath…to keep her eye on Aydhara just in case.
"Hello!" Aydhan called into the weyr.
“Come in!” Jaylene folded up the last of her clothes into a storage box and turned to her mother. “Think that’ll be enough for now?” It always felt sad putting her most summery clothes away. “I’m never going to get used to this place.”
The smaller woman who looked like an older twin of Jaylene nodded and gave the box a nudge with her foot. “We’ll have to get the boys up to move that into storage for you,” Tenani said. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to winters at this Weyr.” Mother and daughter gave one another a tender look.
Wisps of Aydhan's hair swirled around her as Tymborikath took off from the ledge, circling lazily to land again in the Weyrbowl. Or...not quite a weyrbowl, Aydhan supposed. More a weyrbowl than Barrier Lake's, at least, but nothing like High Reaches.
"Pardon me, I don't mean to interrupt. Am I early?" Aydhan asked. "I'm Aydhan, Weyrwoman Second at Barrier Lake Weyrhold. You must be Jaylene's sister."
Tenani grinned and gave Jaylene a sly glance. “You flatter me, weyrwoman, but I am actually her mother.”
Jaylene returned her mum’s grin and kissed her on the side of her forehead. “You_could_be my sister though…and we could gang up on J’nne and J’zen!” Both women laughed at that and Jaylene explained, “they’re my younger brothers, one rides green, ones on bronze. Both terrors! But enough of that, it’s not every day a weyrwoman wanders into my weyr.” She smiled at the woman.
"Always take an opportunity for flattery, miss." Aydhan said with a smile. "It's wonderful when your family is all in one place. And dragonriders, no less! My extended family is all back in High Reaches, but my son just Impressed a wonderful little brown." She slid into an open chair just like she owned the place. "I just set my daughter loose in Dragonsfall; she's keen to spot the lady bluerider you have here. We have one in Barrier Lake now, but there's nothing quite like seeing the _first_ one, so I'm told."
Without batting an eye Tenani turned to get the bottle of white wine that was chilling in the cool box. She returned and placed a glass in front of Aydhan and poured her, Jaylene and herself a glass.
As she did so, Jaylene grinned and slid into the other empty chair at the table. “Ah yes, N’kayden, isn’t it? And his brown Aberath. How are they faring? I heard that Aberath is quite a pretty brown.”
Tenani took the last chair and mirrored her daughter’s smile, but her eyes held more shadow. She had learned to live with a J’lan-shaped hole in her heart and the worry that her other three children were exposed to Thread every Fall, but that pain would never leave her.
"He is a lovely little thing." Aydhan agreed. She glanced back over at Tenani again, still a little puzzled, but continued pleasantly as she smiled and took a sip of the wine. "No issues at the hatching, aside from it being a dreary day otherwise. We don't get much bad weather, at least. And that's what brings me to why I scheduled a meeting with you. I'd like to poach you for the Weyrhold. We have a vacant Wingthird position in the Queen's Wing. We're looking for more stability in the Wing, and you've got a lot of experience under your belt."
“Oh?” Jaylene’s eyes widened and she glanced from Aydhan to her mother. A lot of her friends and old wingriders had gone on to Barrier Lake when she and her family had come to frozen Dragonsfall on request when they offered her a wingthird role. In her mind, she could feel Reanth listening intently. And she could see the way her mother was gripping the tabletop.
**What do you think, love?**
}:It would be nice to be warm again.:{
Jaylene chuckled and told the weyrwoman what her green had said, adding, “Tell me more.”
"Well, we still have plenty of open weyrs, if there's a type you like." Aydhan said with a chuckle. "It's one of those modern Weyrs, like Dolphin Cove, without a traditional weyrbowl and the like. It takes some getting used to, but it's certainly warmer than here, and you'd be back in your old protectorate. Kapera and I are part of the Wing, of course. D'kere is our Wingsecond. I think he transferred from here? A few healers that swap out partway through. Wingthird is a lot of administrative work, as you know, but without a junior weyrwoman Kapera and I could use the help. That is, if you're interested."
“I…am.” From the look her mother was giving her, Jaylene knew she was interested too. “I’d have to talk to my brothers, and to L’val and D’ale too before I can give you an answer.” In her wallow, Reanth sat up and warbled. “And my green is_very_interested,” she laughed. To go back to the same sweeprides and see the old sites she longed for again…
"Of course. I'm sure I can speed up the process, if you receive any pushback from your Wingleaders." Aydhan said with an easy smile. She wasn't entirely sure, but she had the audacity. "Let me know the space that you need; we have space in the Lower Caverns and around the Weyr, if you'd like to come too, Tenani."
“Oh, I would, I miss that area. I was born at a Hold not too far from Barrier Lake,” Tenani said.
“You’d have to arrange for three weyrs, my brothers always tag along,” Jaylene added. “Though I’ll have to speak with them first.” She couldn’t imagine life without her brothers and was sure they felt the same. And that would mean breaking J’nne finally completely away from Uetia and move him to someone new, if he chose. “And I have to warn you that J’zen will go through about half the Weyr in no time at all.”
Aydhan tilted her head slightly at the gentle sibling slander. She didn't have siblings herself, but her weyrmate did. "Plenty of weyrs, if they decide to come along. If they don't, they're just a breath of /between/ away. J'zen can entertain himself with a whole new Weyrhold, if he chooses."
“When would you want me to move?” Already Jaylene was calculating how long it would take to move. Just by the look on her mother’s face, she knew she was going to take the role. Already she could feel the chatter of Reanth telling her brothers’ dragons.
"The sooner the better." Aydhan said, "But as someone who just moved everything across Pern, I understand the time it takes. And you'll want time to tell your friends and wingmates that you'll be going. And any family, if they decide to stay, My father and our extended family decided to stay at The Reaches. It's just a short trip /between/ away, but I don't get home as often as I'd like."
“Okay,” Jaylene smiled at the other woman. She seemed the type that Jay would get on well with. “Before you head out let me treat you to our bakers’ best bubblies.” She stood up to give the Weyrwoman a quick tour of the Weyr.
"I'm not one to turn down a treat." Aydhan said with a laugh. "Besides, I need to give my daughter enough time to skulk around the Weyr a little before I come calling. After you."
