O'rosin

O'rosin

The wounds were healing just as Aeoluth started being awake longer than the time it took to feed and bathe him. He could even mostly do it now, even though Aeoluth needed more and more meat chopped with what felt like each passing day. He needed to move slowly, careful not to reopen the freshly closed wounds, and it ended up taking nearly twice as long for him to do anything for Aeoluth. But at least Cirina wasn't shoveling manure for him anymore.

The brown wasn't hungry now, at least, because after the long day of lessons and meat chopping and bathing and oiling, O'rosin was exhausted. So exhausted that when Aeoluth sent him a tentative, wordless request for 'play?' he hardly thought anything of it until he heard the low rumble and the brown was gone, bounding across the weyrbowl in front of the barracks to tackle Berlinarth.

Berlinarth saw Aeoluth coming, but not soon enough. He rared up just in time to get tackled, rolling across the sandy ground in a tangle with the other large brown.

}: Fiend! You’ll get your comeuppance! :{ Berlinarth declared, but there was a hint of glee in his mindvoice as he maneuvered himself to try to flip Aeoluth.

C’rand, for his part, had only just gotten out of the way in time to miss being bowled over by the pair. “Wow boys, come on now…” He looked up, searching across the bowl for Aeoluth’s weyrling, just to make sure he was aware of where his brown was and that they were just playing.

Aeoluth roared (shrieked) as he was easily flipped, a chaotic mess of limbs and wings hitting the ground. He didn't know what those words meant, but the excitement was enough for him to keep shoving back. }: Nuh-uh! :{ He answered happily, }: I'm the strongest! :{

O'rosin wasn't too far away, though he skirted around the edge of the beasts just in case. He wasn't feeling particularly keen on getting any more talons to the gut. "Sorry, I didn't think playing meant…this." He said loudly as he got closer.

}: Weak! :{ Berlinarth countered, even as he was being forcefully shoved off, falling back and tripping over one of his own wings to faceplant in the dirt. }: Ouch! Easily outmatched! :{ He charged into Aeoluth again.

“I wouldn’t’ve, either,” C’rand said, moving around to join O’rosin. He wasn’t particularly keen on getting himself crushed, either. “But Berlinarth feels like he’s happy… Aeoluth’s okay, right?”

}: No! :{ Aeoluth eloquently declared. He crouched and braced himself for the charge. Berlinarth hit him hard and he wobbled a little on his feet, but stayed up. He shoved the other brown back, shoulder checking shoulder.

"Aeoluth's fine." O'rosin agreed. "I can't keep up with him. He's been shaking with energy since the first day." He paused for a moment, pained realization dawning on his face. "Maybe I should've expected it. He bowled over a green the other day and scared the lights out of me."

Berlinarth shoved back with his shoulder, digging his claws into the ground as they pressed against each other, straining. }: Yield…! :{

C’rand grimaced sympathetically. “Berlinarth hasn’t bowled anybody over yet -- not since Hatching Day -- but he doesn’t seem to respect their space. He just shoulders everyone out of the way. He’s a _bully_ and I’m just going to have to do a better job of making him listen. Any tips?”

}: No! :{ Aeoluth declared though he didn't know what that word meant. He shoved back, the two of them locked together and neither overtaking the other.

"I got nothin'." O'rosin said with a shrug. "I've been really firm since the hatching. If he tried this on me he would've opened up all the stitches. And he nipped at Cirina a few times when she was helping feed him. He's not doin' it on purpose, but he's staying on a tight leash until he learns his own strength."

C’rand snorted. “You hear that, Berl? You have to learn your own strength!”

}: I know my own strength, :{ Berlinarth replied emphatically. }: It is the _greatest_, and certainly better than _this_ ruffian! :{

There was no malice in his tone, though -- clearly he was enjoying the challenge, trying to wrestle Aeoluth and flip him onto his back.

“I wasn’t prepared for this kind of ego, either,” C’rand continued sheepishly. “He didn’t actually _get_ Cirina, did he?”

}: You are not! :{ Aeoluth protested, even as he faltered and was thrown onto his back with a hard _thump_. O'rosin felt the pressure in his back but he didn't feel pain (yet), so he paid them only a cursory glance.

"Cirina's quick, thank Faranth." O'rosin replied with a grimace. "He's just so eager and full of energy. Like sitting still during his bath is the hardest thing he'll ever do in his life."

“Berlinarth is good for that, at least. Something about how it’s important to take care of his hide so that he can be at his best for tomorrow. What’s ‘tomorrow’? I ask but he doesn’t have a good answer. I think he just means life in general -- he just makes it sound as grave and dramatic as possible.” C’rand shrugged. “But it doesn’t stop him from immediately throwing himself into mud to wrestle if he wants to.”

}: Yield! :{ Berlinarth said again, attempting to pin the other brown while he was down.

}: What's yield?:{ Aeoluth finally asked. He was well pinned now, but wriggled furiously to try and escape.

"I'm sure he'd hate how he'd feel if he missed a bath." O'rosin said with a shake of his head. "But he's not thinking about that. He's thinking about wrestling in the mud but also being so close he's under my skin, but also racing."

“Racing? Oh shards, don’t give them any ideas,” C’rand laughed.

}: Yield means give up, :{ Berlinarth said wisely, with all the arrogant patronization of someone who believes they are kindly educating someone less intellectually gifted than themselves. }: Preferably in spectacular fashion. Just collapse and say that you yield in the face of my superiority. :{

Aeoluth didn't say it, exactly, but projected an intense feeling of irritation instead. O'rosin quickly supplied the word, and Aeoluth declared, }: Ugh, _Rude_!:{ He considered, briefly, trying to bite the other brown, just enough to startle him and he could get up, but O'rosin was already on alert with a harsh mental **No!**. The brown whined, still wriggling.

"I think 'playtime' is done for now." O'rosin said loudly at both of them. He shot C'rand an apologetic look. "It's all fun and games until Aeoluth starts biting."

“I don’t know if Berlinarth would-- “ The words died on C’rand’s lips as he saw Berlinarth open his mouth. “Absolutely not!”

Berlinarth closed his mouth slowly and stepped back off of Aeoluth. }: It seems you’ve been spared… for now. :{
