Description: Aydhara and Naradis have a chance meeting at Barrier Lake Weyrhold
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 9, day 28 of Turn 11
Notes: Mentioned: R'nar, N'kevyn (not by name)
Naradis felt like she had needed to go through five different layers of permission to leave Dolphin Cove. It was infuriating, but infuriating in a way that she couldn't work around no matter how much she wanted to. At least, despite all the tediousness of the affair, it hadn't been _ hard_. No one could say that she couldn't pay her brother a surprise visit.
No. The hard part would be actually _finding _ him.
Naradis waved the transport rider off as soon as she dismounted. She didn't like the way he was eyeing her, like she was some vile, untrustworthy, evil _ thing_. It made her want to either vomit, sock him in the face, or perhaps a bit of both. Neither were options, of course, so she settled for separating from him as soon as possible. He probably wouldn't be able to provide him with any useful directions anyway. No, she was more likely to get that from…
…
…
…Shard it she was going with the first person she saw.
Naradis raced over to a young woman, tapped her on the shoulder, and asked, “Excuse me, do you know where I can find R'nar's weyr?”
Aydhara had just finished dinner and was thinking about doing a short walk along the river when she felt the tap on her shoulder. She didn't recognize this girl, but then again, she still didn't really recognize a lot of folks at the Weyr just yet. Her eyes glanced down at the shoulder knots, only vaguely recognizing the Dolphin Cove knots on her shoulder. She pondered the question, face scrunched as if deep in thought. Then, slowly, she asked, "Who?"
Naradis opened her mouth and… Stepped back. Starred at Aydhara for a long moment, mouth parted slightly but not saying a word. After several agonizing second of that, she managed, “Um…” Another second passed, in which she started to wish that a dragon would fly down and swallow her whole, before she jerkily pointed at herself and said, “Naradis.”
Yeah. Yeah, there was no coming back from this one.
“I mean, I’m Naradis!” she hastily said, waving her hands as she made a feeble attempt at coming back from it anyway. “I’m _looking _ for R’nar.”
Aydhara raised her eyebrows and waited, patient and amused, for the other girl to figure herself out. "It's nice to meet you, Naradis from Dolphin Cove." She said with no small amount of humor in her tone. "I'm Aydhara. I just transferred here a few sevendays ago and I have no idea who R'nar is. What does he look like? What color is his dragon?"
“Aah,” Naradis said, lowering her arms to her sides. She stood there for a moment, waiting for that dragon to swoop down and eat her. Aaaany minute now.
Except nope, it didn’t come. Crumbs.
Looked like she was going to have to do this the old fashioned way.
“Well, he’s my brother. So… kind of like me? But a guy. And he has a face like…” Naradis thoughtfully tapped her finger against her chin. “You know how when a small dog gets left out in the rain, it looks at you with these big, wet eyes, and it’s just the saddest, most pathetic creature you’ve ever seen? But there’s something really endearing about it? R’nar looks like that, like, _all the time _. Iorath is really attractive though. Big, coppery bronze, can’t miss ‘im.”
"Oh, darling." Aydhara took Naradis' hand and pat-patted it gently. "You don't look like that at all. But I think I know a boy who does, especially if he's almost as cute as you. You'd be wrong about the bronze, though. Avicath is the most handsome bronze here. He's new too, so I'll forgive you for not knowing that. I think I saw him in the dining hall earlier, so why don't we check there and you can introduce us?"
Naradis breathed a sigh of relief, which she _definitely_ wasn’t playing up in an attempt to draw attention away from the blush blooming across her cheeks. She keeps her smile a normal, sane, acceptable level of wide and amused as she says, “That’s a relief, I don’t know how I’d ever face my mother again if I had to tell her she’d produced two Creatures. I might have to fight you if you end up being wrong about your Avicath, though, and be warned, I am well trained in the art of fisticuffs.” She grins roguishly before gesturing forward with a flourish. “Lead the way!”
"Is that a threat or a promise?" Aydhara asked. The barely concealed excitement in her voice betrayed the badly feigned innocence. She liked making a girl blush almost as much as she liked fighting, and with this one it was all too easy. "Avicath's my Dad's bronze, though, and I don't think we're quite there yet. The Dining Hall, I can do." She took the not-quite-offered hand and intertwined their fingers, pulling Naradis along towards the big building just off the weyrbowl.
