Lanniya

Lanniya brushed her lips over the light dusting of reddish hair on her
daughter's crown as she finished feeding, then looked up as the
familiar mindvoices called out a greeting. A smile split her cheeks.
They were here! She looked down at the baby, lifting her up to lightly
pat her back. "They're here to see you, Kenlari. Your auntie and
uncle. Aren't you excited?"

The baby responded with a burp.

Pierka was so excited she hardly waited for Anneryth to make room for
them on her ledge before she was sliding off Xemroth's back and giving
the gold a big hug. "You're so beautiful today," she said. "Would you
like a bath later?" She didn't wait for the answer but dashed into
the weyr and practically collided with K'ale.

"Oooh, sorry," she chirped and ran on to her sister and niece.

K'ale just chuckled and got out of her way. Then he walked out on the
ledge grinning. "Hey Z'ku," he said warmly.

"K'ale." Z'ku nodded to the brownrider and then gripped his arm in greeting.

Xemroth crooned his own greeting to the young queen. }:You are very
lovely Anaeryth. Thank you for allowing me to share your ledge.:{

}: You are welcome Xemroth. Greetings to you and Yours. Mine is
excited to see them.:{

Lanniya sat up and smiled as Pierka ran in. "Hi! It's so good to see
you." She rose, face glowing and moved to embrace her sister warmly.
She called out to the two men. "Please come in, Z'ku. There's klah
ready."

"Thank you," Z'ku said. Even though it was relatively warm for
Dragonsfall, the air was cold compared to Dolphin Cove and the warm
beverage would be welcome.

K'ale went to the sideboard and poured four cups handing them to Z'ku
and Pierka first. Then he brought one to Lanniya.

"Thanks," Pierka smiled and went to Z'ku to brush his arm with one
hand in an unconscious sign of her love for the Bronzerider. "How's
little Kenlari doing? Are you getting any sleep?"

"Thank you, K'ale." She brushed her lips over his cheek as she took
the cup, cradling her daughter carefully with her other arm. "She's
doing really well and eats like a hatchling right out of the egg." She
chuckled. "Do either of you want to hold her for a bit?"

Z'ku glanced at Pierka, giving her the opportunity to go first.

"I'd love to," Pierka's eyes lit and she stepped to the side of the
bed to take the tiny bundle from her sister's arms. "Ooooh aren't you
to the pretty girl," she cooed.

The baby waved her little hands in the air, tiny fingers grasping
blindly. Then she gave a big yawn, blinking sleepily before giving
another noisy burp. Lanniya laughed softly, moving to take K'ale's
hand as she sipped her drink. "She does that alot too. It's strange
how much our lives have changed. I mean, I know she'll have to go to
a foster mother soon, but I can't imagine life without her now. "

"It was the same with both of ours," Z'ku said. While Kazom wasn't his
by blood, he'd been with Pierka through her pregnancy and was as much
a father to the boy as a dragonrider could be. "It's hard, knowing we
can't raise our children the way non-riders are able to. But we do the
best we can."

"I know what you mean," Pierka smiled at her sister. "But be sure you
keep an eye on her or she'll grow up before you know it." She walked
over to Z'ku and grinned impishly. "Wanna try for a girl?"

K'ale smiled down at Lanniya. "Oh she'll get plenty of her momma and
pappa," he promised.

Z'ku looked at his weyrmate with bright eyes. "I'd love to." Then he
chuckled. "Though maybe we could wait until Kupier is out of diapers."

Lanniya tinkled out a laugh. "Oh dear. Looks like Kenlari's started
something. Sorry, Z'ku." Though K'ale might eventually want a son, she
was very willing to wait until Kenlari was much older. If she got with
child too quickly, Saibra might have strong words for her and the
thought of another pregnancy so quickly was not even something she
wanted to consider.

Pierka grinned up at Z'ku. "Oh well, I tried. Want to hold her?"

"Absolutely." Z'ku held his arms out for the tiny baby. After two
children, he was quite comfortable holding even a newborn.

Lanniya watched with pride, loving the fact that she had her family
and friends surrounding both she and her daughter. She rested her head
against K'ale's shoulder, keeping a grip on his hand. He was already
showing himself to be quite the proud and loving father and it was
clear that Z'ku was the same. How she and Pierka had lucked out with
two wonderful men, she didn't know, but she was glad that they did.

Kenlari's little brow worked as she looked up at Z'ku, blinking
slowly. There was a look of concentration then a little smile appeared
as she completely soaked her nappy.

"Oh oh," K'ale said and held out his hands to take her if Z'ku wanted
to give her to him. "I can take care if that."

"I'm not quite self-sacrificing enough to say no." Z'ku laughed as he
handed the baby to K'ale. "I've got enough of that at home."

As K'ale busied himself with taking care of the baby's wet bottom,
Lanniya slipped over to stand beside Pierka and Z'ku. "He's the best
Da, he really is. I've never seen him so happy. She's got him
entirely wrapped around that little pinky of hers. Between him, and
R'enh, and F'lin, I don't think she'll ever have to worry about
anything. " She wrapped her arms around both of their waists and gave
a quick hug. "Thank you both for coming. "

"Of course," Pierka grinned and hugged her sister back. "We have to
visit each other more often," she added with a final squeeze.

"When Kenlari is old enough to /between/ you should come to Dolphin
Cove," Z'ku said. "We can have a family picnic."

"A picnic on the beach sounds perfect." Lanniya agreed readily. "As
soon as she's old enough."
