"No no no, Ava. When a dragon's eyes whirl red it doesn't mean they are _angry_, it means they are _hungry_," Sh'vair said pointing to his notes. "Look, right here - 'yellow is the color of alarm, red and orange is anger, red indicates hunger.'"

"Red and orange?", Ava looked her own notes. "I think I missed that part when Mindath asked me something. "Let's see, gray for pain, white for danger...What's for worry?"

"Shards... worry..." Sh'vair checked his notes looking for it. "I'm not sure... purple?"

"No, purple was for mating lust and love. Did they even mention worry?" Ava said, chewing her lips thoughtfully.

"Hmmm. Maybe not. I think its the same as alarm maybe? So, yellow?"

Ava shrugged. "I've seen yellow in her eyes, I guess it does fit in to the mood she was in."

"Well, what color are they now?" Sh'vair asked leaning forward to try to see under the half-closed lids.

"Blue, I think, that means happy or content. How about your's?"

Sh'vair stared into his dragon's whirling eye. "Ummm... I can't tell if they are blue or purple." **Are you content or in love?**

}:Both,:{ Nidogath replied happily.

"I think its bluish-purple," his lifemate said turning back to Ava.

"Like bruise?" Ava asked and fell over with helpless giggles.

Sh'vair looked at her with a slight frown. "My dragon's eyes do not look like bruises," he stated plainly.

That just made the girl laugh even more. "Sorry," she hiccuped. "That was hilarious."

"It's not funny, Ava. His eyes don't look like bruises." He didn't find the situation that amusing.

"No, they don't look like bruises at all," Ava said soothingly and patted his arm. Laughter was still tugging her lip-corners upwards.

"Well, they certainly don't now! Look, his eyes are turning yellow!" he said pointing to his dragon and reaching out to pat him soothingly.

}:Why are you upset? I don't like it when you're upset?:{ Nidogath crooned softly, shifting his feet nervously.

}: What's a bruise? :{ Mindath asked curiously.

** It's something that people get when they are hurt. Like this...** Ava brought up a memory of her own face after one of her father's punishment. She had seen enough bruises on her face to picture it clearly.

}: It looks painful. I don't like when you're in pain. :{ the green said. Something like anger had crept to her mind-voice.

** Yes, it's painful. No one here makes me feel pain,** Ava said, keeping her tone calm and soothing.

"Look, now yours is turning orange and red. Shards, Ava, you really have a way with these guys," Sh'vair pouted as he continued to sooth Nidogath.

"Seems like I have. I really should keep the subject of b-r-u-i-s-e-s to myself," Ava spelled out the word so the dragonets wouldn't understand it. She reached out to scratch Mindath's eyeridges.

"Oh shards, how what have you done, Ava?" Sh'vair said as he looked into Nidogath's whirling eyes with concern. "Now they're both turning red. What was red again?"

"Hunger," Ava replied. That she already knew without notes. "We better feed them, again."

}: Yes, please. I'm famished. :{

}: If you feed me you will feel better,:{ Nidogath offered helpfully.

**Such a sacrifice for my happiness, little one...** Sh'vair chuckled. He did feel better, actually. "All right, well, enough studying for now. Lets get back to our _real_ work."

"Which is chopping meat for these bottomless gluttons," Ava said with a fond voice. Her hand resting on Mindath's neck ridge, they started to walk towards the feeding place.

As Nidogath nudged Sh'vair on playfully, the weyrling decided that it wasn't such a bad job to have.
