K'mai

K'mai

"K'mai," Sh'vair grinned as he noticed the bluerider approaching him and
his young lifemate. It was his first chance to see him since the
Hatching, and he couldn't help the silly grin on his face. "I want you
to meet Nidogath."

"I told you so!" K'mai said with a wide smile for the new weyrling.
"What a lovely little blue." He knelt down to scratch Nidogath's
eyeridge.

The dragonet leaned into his hand as his eyes whirled blue and green
with contentment.

}:He makes me feel good. And you too. I like him,:{ the little blue
confirmed.

**Me too. A lot,** Sh'vair replied. "He says he likes you."

"Awww, he's sweet. Like someone else I know." K'mai winked.

If possible, Sh'vair's grin grew wider. "Yes, I think he's just about
perfect. Maybe he'll be as handsome as Sebeth one of these days."

"Oh, I'm sure he will be. Although Sebeth might disagree that anyone
could be as handsome as he is," K'mai chuckled.

The weyrling laughed. "Well, maybe someday they will be equally
handsome. Would that work for Sebeth?"

"As long as he doesn't take too many greens away from him, I think he'll
be fine," the bluerider said.

"Only a few," Sh'vair grinned. "But it will be a long time before
Nidogath wins any flights." Or until he would be a senior weyrling...

"It'll go by faster than you think. One day you'll look at him and
realize he's full grown, and it will be hard to imagine he was ever this
small," K'mai gave Nidogath another scratch.

"Well, I suppose a dragon this small has its good points. Less of him
to wash."

K'mai laughed. "That's for sure. Sometimes I wish Sebeth was smaller so
he'd be easier to wash."

}:I am the size I was meant to be,:{ Sebeth commented sleepily from his
ledge.

"Well, I have a feeling this one isn't gonna be a small blue," Sh'vair
said with a loving smile at his lifemate. "He's already bigger than his
blue brothers, I think." Of course, he never actually measured, but it
sure didn't seem like any were bigger than him.

"He does seem to be a good sized hatchling," K'mai said, nodding. "I'm
sure you'll have lots of fun scrubbing all that lovely blue hide!"

"He is lovely, isn't he. I think you were right, K'mai. Blues are the
best."

"Of course the are!" K'mai grinned. "And if you have any questions about
what it's like to be a bluerider, feel free to ask me."

"Oh, well, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions," the young man said
with a slight blush. "But... none yet..."

The bluerider's smile widened. "When you do, I'll try to be as _helpful_
as I can be." There was a mischievous sparkle in his eyes.

**Oh shards...** Sh'vair thought as his face turned crimson and he could
feel his heart thumping in his chest.

}:What's wrong?:{ his blue asked, concerned at his rider's sudden
tension.

**Nothing. I'm just... nothing...** he reached down to pat the little
blue's head both to sooth the little dragonet and to give him an excuse
to look anywhere but at K'mai. "Well, that is most kind of you, K'mai."

"Sorry. I shouldn't tease." K'mai was still smiling.

"No no, you were just being nice, like you always are" the weyrling said
with a smile. At least, he would keep telling himself that. After all,
it was probably true. He was, unfortunately, just a pimply faced
teenager and K'mai was... well, _K'mai_.

"Actually, I was being a bit naughty, and I know better than that,"
K'mai said.

"I didn't mind so much," Sh'vair said quietly, not quite ready to meet
the older bluerider's eyes. "Well, I think Nidogath will be hungry
soon. I better get to chopping."
