Description: Ranni cannot wake up.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 8 of Turn 10
It was getting so difficult to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Each night, despite how many pillows she had to cram here and there, Ranni found herself whimpering miserably and with a great deal of frustration since she desperately wanted to sleep. Sleep, however, eluded her like a petal in the wind.
Tonight was no different. Toss. Turn. Go relieve herself. Back to bed. More tossing. More turning. Ranni had no idea how some women had large passels of children. Did they really enjoy being pregnant? Who in their right mind would?
**Those poor Holder women, they can't even safely abort theirs. At least I'll have that option in the future,** she thought in a huff.
"I wish you would just get out already," she grumped to her very round belly as she buried her face in a pillow once again.
That was the last thing Ranni remembered before slipping into a fitful doze. She woke sometime later to a concerned Sukiith trying to edge her way into the weyr. There were so many sounds. She could hear Sukiith trying to talk to her but her voice sounded muffled as if there was something in between them. How could that be possible? They were connected mentally.
Everything in the weyr was a blur, but she could tell that there were glows open. Why were the glows unshuttered? She hadn't opened them.
Someone was grabbing her by the shoulders. Who was it? She had the vague realization that it was R'nar, but why was he there? What did he want?
Ranni had the sudden sensation that she was weightless, but that was silly, how could she be weightless? She was being carried, she decided, yes, that was the cause of the jostling. Where was she being taken? Why couldn't she just be left alone to sleep?
Maybe she did sleep. One minute she was in nice, peaceful darkness, and the next she was being thrust forward into more light and sound. Raised voices were around her, outside she could hear a dragon's panicked sounds. Was that Sukiith?
Her vision cleared for a moment, long enough for her to realize that she was on a bed, a bed covered in blood. Where had all the blood come from?
And that's when she saw it... a pathetic, tiny little body being held in two hands. It wasn't moving. Was that her baby? The shock of it brought her surroundings into a sharper picture. R'nar was beside her, grief and worry etched onto his young, handsome face.
She didn't understand. Why was the baby here? It wasn't due for another month. Somewhere in the fog she heard her voice repeating the words 'I wish you would just get out already'. Faranth, had she caused this?
She had done it. She had gotten her desire. She had killed her baby.
Grief ripped through her, so raw and real that for a moment she could clearly make out Sukiith's panicked voice.
}:Ranni! My rider! Stay with me! Please don't leave me!:{
She could hear the panic in her lifemate's tone and feel the tug of Sukiith desperately trying to keep their link established, but the black edges were back, edging out her vision. She blinked rapidly to try and clear her eyes but the more she blinked the more she came to realize that her eyes weren't even open.
There was that comfortable darkness once again. Just a moment of peace. Some time to rest. A bit of sleep. That was all she needed....
