After Aileyan had gotten Ravyan to calm down, she dropped him back to
his fostermother. Then she asked, via Kjarliheth, if J'nev was willing
to talk with her. At least she could salvage that one. She was still
angry but she was starting to regret her harsh words to Kaiafel.
Apologizing wasn't easy and she didn't have the courage to face him
right now. There were times he looked too much like his father.
After Kjarheth got word back from Ankioth, she took the quick ride to
his weyr ledge.

"J'nev? I'm sorry about the earlier. With the children there, I paniced."

"That's ok," the bronzerider said, meeting her at the curtain his
Weyr. Surprisingly, it wasn't a lie. He understood why she
got rid of him so fast. He was just glad that she wasn't avoiding him
this time! "No lasting damage I trust?"

"I hope not. I yelled at them," Aileyan looked miserable.

"Yeah, I heard that," J'nev said with a little laugh as he reached his
arms around her. "They made a mess, did they?"

"Absolutely, not to mention giving their poor fostermother a scare.
She had no idea where they were," Aileyan replied and leaned against
him. She buried her face against his chest. The gesture made her
uneasy, reminded her all the times she had seeked comfort from
U'kaiah.

"Well, I guess in that way it was good that we found them," he said,
rubbing her back soothingly. "They're where they belong now, and we're
free to do whatever we want again. No harm done."

Aileyan wasn't so sure about that, she had said some pretty nasty things.

J'nev assumed that she had come back to start back where they had left
off, leaning back, he tipped her chin up so he could kiss her lips
softly.

Aileyan just let him kiss her, still fighting the uneasy memories.

~~ FLASHBACK ~~

"Tell me what happened, sweetheart," U'kaiah murmured softly as he
gently stroked her hair, cradling her head to his chest.

"It's O'mat, he was killed in a Fall today," Aileyan sobbed. "I really
liked him, he was always so nice. His green Hatched at the same time
with Kjarliheth."

Shards. U'kaiah had not heard that O'mat had been killed. The
greenrider had transferred out of their Weyr a while back, but he knew
each loss of dragon life was felt keenly, and old friends were
remembered no matter how far they traveled or how long they had been
gone. He had not known the greenrider well, but he could certainly
understand the loss of a Clutchmate. "I'm so sorry to hear that,
Aileyan. I know how hard it is to lose an old friend like that."

"His father was harper too, did you know that? He was posted to
Amethyst Cliff Hold when O'mat was Searched," Aileyan said. "We had
lot in common so we became friends."

"I didn't know," U'kaiah said honestly. He knew barely more than the
name, but the fact that Aileyan would count him a friend spoke volumes
as to the quality of his character. "He sounds like he was a very
special person. You have every right to mourn the loss. Just tell me
what you need from me now."

"Just hold me tight," Aileyan murmured.

~*~ PRESENT~*~

J'nev's lips traveled to Aileyan's ear as his fingers slipped to her
belt buckle. "Now let's get those clothes off of you, hmm?" That is,
after all, what their intention had been before the unexpected
surprise.

Aileyan wasn't really mood for it, but she went with it anyway. She
needed to keep J'nev happy. Who else got? Nobody seemed to care. If
she had tears in her eyes, J'nev didn't notice them as she kept her
face away from him.

The bronzerider pulled her belt from it's loops and then guided her
hands to his own. Curling his fingers around her neck, he gently nipped
and sucked at the skin where her neck met her shoulder. Not strong
enough to leave a mark, of course. He knew she didn't like that.

Aileyan did as he wanted her to do, letting him take the lead. She was
not interested enough to take initiative. Things had been different
with U'kaiah, once their relationship had progressed to the point she
trusted him that much.

~*~ FLASHBACK ~*~

U'kaiah closed his book and set it on the table next to his chair when
the greenrider opened his door. "He's finally asleep then?"

"Yes, finally. You really shouldn't get him excited during evenings,
takes time to get him calm down to sleep," Aileyan replied and walked
in.

"Sorry," he said contritely. "I guess I get a little too carried
away." U'kaiah didn't have much experience with little ones and
didn't really know just how hard it was for them to come down.

"He really likes you," Aileyan replied, sat astride to his lap so she
was facing him. She buried her fingers to his hair and gave his chin a
playful nip. The way she moved her hip left little room for
imagination, it made her intentions pretty clear.

"Oh, well," he murmured, his voice becoming breathy as his fingers
wrapped around her hips. "I really like him, too." Shards he loved
it when a woman took initiative!

Her hands found their way under his shirt. Aileyan just murmured an
agreement, her mouth busy with other things.

"You trying to leave your mark on me?" he asked with curl of his lips
as his hands curved round to squeeze her backside.

"Of course," she replied with naughty grin. "I want everyone know
you're mine," she was feeling possessive tonight.

"I give myself to you willingly," U'kaiah said with an approving grin
and a challenging glint in his eye. "Go ahead, greenrider. Have your
way with me."

Taking the pants off required some acrobacy but she managed it.

The bronzerider offered gentle support, giving tips and offering
advice to show her new ways they could both enjoy her bold initiative.
But always, he encouraged her to try whatever she felt inspired to do.
This was the powerful, confident Aileyan that he always had known lay
deep inside her, and he knew it was a privilege to be trusted with her
secret fantasies.

~*~

Aileyan just wished she could keep her thoughts away from U'kaiah. She
was trying to concentrate on J'nev, but the memories of better times
kept churning up. They made her feel even worse. They had such a
wonderful thing going on, and what mess it was now.
