It's the Heat

Description: Aileyan and J'nev's romantic get away is interrupted my memories of the past..
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 4, day 7 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentions: Kaiafel

"Sorry, I should have known that we would not be the only people
here," J'nev said, arm draped over Aileyan's shoulder and fingers
interlaced with hers. The sun was as warm on their skin as the sand
was beneath their feet, but they did have to dodge picnic blankets and
sandcastles as they walked. "Are you sure you don't mind. We can
still go somewhere else."

"Well, it's a threadfree restday and other had same idea than we. This
is well known beach," Aileyan replied. She looked around. "I don't
mind the crowd but we might want to find a spot bit farther away.
Little bit of shade wouldn't hurt either. I burn too easily and the
burnt skin is very unpleasant when going /between/. "

"Looks like no one's sitting around the treeline over there." There
didn't seem to be too many people that far down the beach, either.
The darkness of the shadows might also afford them a bit of privacy,
which would also be nice. "Hey look. They've got a water ball game
going. Maybe that's why so many people are here."

"Looks like it," Aileyan glanced the game. U'kaiah had tried to teach
it to her. While she could learn the rules easily enough, she just
wasn't good enough in water to actually play it. She did enjoy
watching it though. "I wonder if they'll run a tournament this Turn or
did they cancel it because of River Bluff."

"I don't know. It wasn't something I kept up on." He squinted and
shielded his eyes from the sun as they passed. "I don't recognize any
of the players... Do you know anyone on Dragonfalls' team?"

"Some, and they got lot of new players from River Bluff," Aileyan
said. She was trying very hard not to remember how their "water ball"
practises usually ended...

~~ FLASHBACK~~

U'kaiah walked into his weyr, a triumphant smile on his face. His
swimming shorts were still wet and despite toweling off, his white
shirt clung to his chest. Seeing the greenrider waiting for him, his
gin deepened. "Sorry I'm late. We were having trouble with a new
play," the bronzerider said as his hand wrapped around her hips and he
pulled her closer for a deep and satisfying kiss.

"Oh, what kind of trouble?" Aileyan asked and returned the kiss.

"Just a bluerider who was all thumbs," he said, as his own thumbs
slipped under the fabric of her tunic to caress the skin along her
hemline and his lips traced her jaw. "Not to worry. Nothing a good
captain couldn't handle."

"At least it wasn't a greenrider who panics when she's pulled under
water," Aileyan's foray to water ball had been brief and
embarrassing. Now she just cheered from audience. Besides, who didn't
enjoy watching U'kaiah shirtless? "Let's get you out of those damp
clothes."

"Take off what you wish, greenrider," U'kaiah said with a challenging
twinkle in his eye.

~*~

She had ended up taking all his clothes and her clothes off too... She
shook her head a little to get rid of the memory.

"What?" J'nev asked with a laugh as he saw her head suddenly shake.
"Are you and Kjarliheth talking?"

"No, I think it was one of those annoying little bugs flying around.
That shade is starting to be really appealing," Aileyan replied and
picked up the pace a little.

J'nev lengthened his stride to keep up with her. She could move quite fast
for such a little person! "Look there, a patch of grass next to that
fallen tree." It looks like a nice soft place to sit, and a good
brace for their backs as well. And the roots gave them a bit of
privacy as well as the darkness.

"Looks good spot to me," Aileyan flashed him a smile.

He peeked over the side of the log and reported with satisfaction, "No
sign of tunnelsnake burrows." J'nev knew the greenriders deep hatred
at fear of the pests.

"Good," Aileyan replied. After they had settled down, she took out a
wineskin from the basket.
"Thirsty?" she asked.

"I am," he smiled. This was shaping up to be much more like what he
had envisioned their romantic get away as being. "If you hand me the
glasses I'll pour."

"Here you are," Aileyan found the glasses from the basket. She got
busy setting down the blanket and taking out the food.

The bronzerider poured the wine and they chatted pleasantly as they
munched on their cold meats and cheeses wrapped in leafy greens and
drank their wine. The breeze was warm but the shade was cool, and
when they had their fill, they settled back against the log and
breathed in the salty sea air and listened to the sound of the waves
reaching for the shore.

Aileyan let out a contented sigh. "This is nice," she murmured quietly
so not to disturb the peace.

"Hmm" J'nev agreed as he curled an arm around her and pulled her
closer. This was exactly how he wanted to spend this afternoon.

That gesture reminded her of many moments like this.

~*~
Aileyan was keeping a half an eye on Ravyan, although with two dragons
and Kaiafel with him, she really didn't need to. The boys were busy
swimming with the dragons, who would not let them drown. She snuggled
closer to U'kaiah. She just loved the way she snuggly fit under his
arm.

The bronzerider, however, was feeling rather playful.
Surreptitiously, he reached his other arm out to pluck a long grass
peaking out from under the log they leaned back against. While
Aileyan's attention was drawn to the boys for moment, he used it to
lightly tickle the edge of her ear and then quickly pull it away.

Thnking it was vtol or some other bug, she swatted with her hand.

U'kaiah, looked around as if he had heard something and then shrugged
and relaxed back against the log. Her eyes seemed to be closed
against the bright sunlight as she snuggled against his side, so he
took that opportunity to just brush the tip of the grass across her
nose.

This time her eyes were only half closed and she saw the grass.
"U'kaiah! that tickles!"

"It does?" he asked innocently as he let it slide down her bare
shoulder and arm.

"You know how ticklish I can be," she gave him a playful punch into the arm.

"I do, why do you think I do it," he grinned, reaching out with the
grass once more to run along her thigh. U'kaiah was very aware of how
sensitive she could be.

"You¨re evil, bronzerider," Aileyan accused playfully and squirmed.

"And what if I use my fingers instead?" he murmured into her ear as he
traced a finger around her navel.

"You know exactly where that leads and we have children with us,"
Aileyan murmured.

U'kaiah grinned as he reached over her to pull the corner of the
blanket over their middle to give them just a little privacy.
"Perhaps I haven't taken enough time to show you just how much fun can
be had with our clothes still on."

~*~

Aileyan was suddenly startled and she looked around bewildered.
"Shards, I think I dozed off," she said, feeling guilty of day
dreaming about another man while curled up with J'nev. Except it had
been a memory.

"You must have been dreaming about something. You were breathing
heavier," he said with an amused smile.

"It's the heat," Aileyan said and felt herself blushing.

"Do you want to take a dip to cool off then?" J'nev suggested, wanting
to be helpful.

"That might be a good idea," Aileyan replied. She hated bein deceitful
but she couldn't tell him that she was having wet dreams about U'kaiah
either.

"Come on then," he said, standing to his feet and offering her his
hand to help her up from the warm sands. "I promise I won't drown
you. And I'll keep my hands mostly to myself."

"I don't mind the hands, just the drowning," Aileyan said with rare,
humorous smile and started strip to her swimming suit.
