"Theyzen?" Fayne called, balancing the tray against her hip and the side of the doorframe as she knocked.
"Ah, Headwoman. Thank you so much," the woodsmith smiled. "I didn't mean to disturb _you_ from your work," he smiled as he stood to his full, towering height.
She smiled back at him as she came over, setting the tray down with ease on a clear space off to the side of the wall. "It's no trouble. I need to get away from my office on occasion. It's good for me."
"Oh, while you're here," he said as he took the tray from her, "do you mind if I borrow you for a few minutes?"
"Borrow me?"
"Ah, yes, if I could," he said with a shy smile. "See... I'm making this rocking chair for my wife, and... well.. I'm much taller than she is... and I... I'm hoping since you're about the same height, if you might try it out. If you're not too busy." Shards, even talking _about_ his wife and he got all embarrassed and tongue tied. But at least this was in a good way.
"Oh of course, Theyzen," Fayne smiled, remembering the young woman and the baby she had cradled against her breast. Soon, Fayne herself would be holding her own child much the same way. Her child.
He lead her over to the freshly sanded rocking chair. "Here, have a seat and tell me how that feels."
Carefully she eased down into it and then slowly sat back, resting her hands on the arms. Shards...it fit like a glove. When she turned her face to his, she was grinning. "You have quite a gift, journeyman."
"Oh, I wouldn't say that," Theyzen said with a slight blush. "This was my second try."
An elegant brow rose. "Only your second try? Faranth, you _do_ have a gift." Her fingers lightly skimmed against the wood as she gently began to rock back and forth.
"Well, I studied furniture making at the Hall, of course," he added quickly. "Do you happen to know who I could talk to about making some cushions for it?"
The Headwoman tilted her head slightly in thought. "Hmm... Nelerina, perhaps? She has some fine material, and her girls have superb embroidery skills."
"Thank you. I will speak to her. But first I have to choose a color." He sighed. It wasn't an easy decision for him. "Vanora came from the Harper Hall at Emerald Falls. I can't decide if I should get them in Harper Hall Blue or Emerald Falls Green. I wish I were better with this sort of thing."
"You know," she began, tapping a nail to her chin, "I _think_ they have a dye that is a cross between a blue and a green." Fayne smiled at him.
"You could always choose that if you still can't decide between the two."
"Hmmm. I suppose I should stain the chair first and see which one suits it best."
"Of course. But is there a sort of...colorless stain?" "Um... yes..." The color of the stain was the one thing he _had_
settled on. But he couldn't get tell her 'no' straight out. Not when she was trying to be helpful.
Again, she smiled as she rose to her feet. "Just another option." Then she turned her eyes back to the chair. "It really is very nice, Theyzen. I'm sure your wife will appreciate and enjoy it." "Thank you. I hope so," Theyzen smiled. "And thank you for the drink too. I'll bring the tray back after the day is finished."
