Jeyme

Jeyme

Jeyme wasn't normally the sort to hang around flightrooms unless
Quinneth was rising, and then she didn't have a choice, but Panitath's
rising had cast a wonderful, delicious and sensuous glow over the
Weyr. Dheymin and Ayeme were both with their foster mother, so why not
swing by the flightrooms, pick up one of the "losers," and enjoy a
couple of hours?

She knew D'hol would be there, Yumath never missed a chance to try and
catch Panitath, but she didn't have her eye on D'hol. While they
always enjoyed each other in bed, she was interested in a partner who
would string together a few words afterwards. Maybe G'ran, or K'lvin,
she thought. As K'ran's Wingthird she would decidedly avoid him
because she didn't want to make their good working relationship
awkward.

"Apparently I'm arriving late to the party," she muttered to herself,
pushing her hair out of her eyes as she took in the gaggle of people
waiting to get their hands on one of the rejected riders.

As men began to trickle out of the flightroom, Jeyme pressed her way
through the other bodies and put her hands on the first man that she
came to -

Volaith chased a gold, and lost her, and he dove through the sky to
the sea to shake off his burning need for her. On the ground, A'kades
came back to himself, his mind separating from his bronze's. Maybe the
dragon was disappointed they hadn't won, but the rider was glad. He
never wanted to win another goldflight again in his life. He was glad
he'd lost, and now he just needed to get out of here.

The crowd of flightmoths was heavy and he felt hands grabbing at him.
He dodges one redheaded woman but then he was caught at the elbow by
another one, someone brownhaired and pleasing. He might not have
consciously sought anyone out but once skin met skin he gasped aloud
and reached for her waist with his hands to bring her closer to him.

Jeyme collapsed beside of A'kades with a smile, her breath coming in
labored pants as she looked up at the ceiling. Even though the
decision to come to the flight rooms had been a last minute thought,
she realized that perhaps her body had known what she was in need of
better than her mind. It felt as if months of tension had been melted
away, leaving nothing behind but the warm, comfortable sense of
satisfaction. Although she hadn't been seeking out A'kades
specifically, she was quite pleased with how things had worked out.
There was nothing lacking in the Weyrsecond's performance, that was a
certainty.

As the sweat cooled from his body, A'kades felt the urge to go to
sleep . The lassitude that came after flightlust, even from an
unsuccessful flight, was strong. He felt extremely wrung out and
satisfied, his body grateful for the release he'd found with his
partner, the breach in months of celibacy. He'd almost forgotten what
it felt like to be in this state of bliss, one his body had been
craving.

Relaxed as his body felt, he didn't want to go to sleep. Not in a
strange room with a stranger. As conscious reason began to return, he
rolled over and looked to see what moth he'd wound up with. A caverns
worker, perhaps, or an exceptionally bold Candidate? He'd thank them
and head out.

He was surprised to see that he recognized the face as another
dragonrider. Greenrider. Wingthird. He briefly blanked on her name.
"How are you feeling?" he settled on asking.

"Thoroughly wrung-out, and you?" Jeyme replied with an easy-going
smile. This was something she never would have done when she'd first
came to the Weyr as a holdbred lady-in-waiting. Even after she'd
Impressed Quinneth she had been in such a tight-knit relationship with
D'hol that she would have never looked outside of their relationship
for sexual satisfaction.

A'kades breathed out a long sigh and stretched. "It was a satisfying
experience," he managed. Physically, it certainly had been.
Emotionally, well... well, at least he hadn't won, and wound up with a
goldrider. That was something.

"I apologize if it wasn't your intentions to be snatched up after the
flight," Jeyme said, pushing up on an elbow. "It was a last minute
decision on my part, to come by the flight rooms." The words
'satisfying experience' were a bit jarring to ones self-confidence,
but the greenrider brushed it aside to think about later.

A'kades realized he'd shoved his foot in his mouth when Jeyme sounded
almost apologetic and wished he could take the words back. "I'm sorry,
I'm out of practice making reasonable conversation after a flight," he
said with a wry note in his voice.

After a moment, he added, "I'm not used to greenriders hanging around
the flight rooms. It's still intense when it's not your own dragon?"

Jeyme shrugged the apology off, she'd had worse said to her before in
a flight room, "Well, we all feel a gold when they rise, don't we?
It's not exactly the same as when Quinneth rises, but it's still good,
nonetheless."

"I don't think I've experienced a goldflight where he _isn't_
chasing," A'kades admitted. He found an unexpected spark of levity in
himself, and said, "It's good to see they can bring people together."

"Has he caught gold before?" Jeyme asked.

"Yes, at River Bluff," A'kades said. "I'm very proud of the clutch he's sired."

"That is something to be proud of," she agreed. "Did those riders come
here? The ones that Impressed in the clutch he sired?"

"Several did, mostly in Rapids, so you'd know them. I feel a little
paternal to them, not as much as to my own children."

The greenrider's eyes lit a little, "You have children? I didn't know
that. How many?"

"Three, one here and two at Dragonsfall. V'rel is graduating now into
the wings," he added.

Jeyme smiled, "I didn't realize V'rel belonged to you, he's one of the
ones K'ran's had me watching. I have a couple of children myself, both
still weyrbrats. One is four, nearly five, and the other is three."

A'kades was pleased to know his son was being watched. "Do you spend a
lot of time with them when you can?"

"Yes, as much as possible. Dheymin, my son, is either with me or his
father on our free days, and then I generally have Ayeme, my daughter
whenever I am not attending to Wing duties. It's a time crunch,
sometimes, but I grew up in the Hold. Even though I am extremely
grateful for the wonderful workers we have in the creche, I still want
to be with my children as much as possible." Jeyme knew some
greenriders who didn't seem to give their children a second thought
once they were given to a foster mother, and she didn't fault them, it
just wasn't how she'd been raised.

"That's a high level of involvement," he said, approval clear in his
tone. "For mine, I took them out on adventures and spent as much time
as they wanted and as I could. V'rel got the least after his mother
transferred, but - well, /between/ makes things easier."

Jeyme thought an involved father was incredibly attractive on a man.
"Well, it was nice to getting to know you better, A'kades. Maybe
Volaith will catch Quinneth sometime," she winked as she pushed up and
reached for her shirt.

A'kades gave her a smile. "Apparently losing can be nearly as good as winning."

Which was a very strange thing to say. He hadn't wanted Volaith to
chase and certainly hadn't expected to wind up with anyone afterwards,
but here he was, having taken care of his physical needs with an
attractive young woman. At the same time, it hadn't hurt emotionally
quite as much as he expected. It wasn't a total ease to be with a
woman again, like it used to be before he'd fallen in love and then
lost it so suddenly - but he hadn't fallen apart and cried, like had
happened earlier. On the balance, it got better. And he appreciated
that Jeyme had been - well, quite a good partner.

"We'll see how he does," he added. As he reached for his own clothes,
found some underthings which certainly weren't his, and passed them
over, brushing a thumb over her knuckles as he did. "Enjoy the rest of
your day, Jeyme."
