Tavia

Tavia

Tavia was expecting X'amor tonight and this time she was ready when she heard the knock on her door. Smiling she put one of the flowers he'd given her in her hair.

She opened the door and was shocked to see Ny'n. "Ny'n? What are you...?
How are you doing?" she asked.

"I'm well. You look, very nice," he added fingering the package that he had brought and wondering if he was insane to have come here.

"Thank you, X'amor and I are going to have dinner tonight. He made the plans a few days ago."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude," he said somewhat redfaced, he should have known she would have plans.

"It's all right, I just wasn't expecting anyone else. Most people forget my birthday."

"Well, you mentioned that it was coming up the other day and I ran across this, and well, it made me think of you. It isn't new, that is actually it's old, but it made me think of you," Ny'n explained awkwardly as he handed her the small package.

Tavia smiled and gestured for him to join her at the table. She opened the package and her smile grew. "This is very nice Ny'n, I'm sure it will come in handy."

"I hope so," he said, "It seemed to be something a healer could put to much better use than a musician." The small book had been a treasured possession of one of his favorite uncles who happened to be a healer.
Something that he had kept for sentiment, but decided would be better used than hidden away. "Of course I had an exceptional piece of sheet music picked out, but I was afraid you might try to find a way to use it as a bandage or something."

Tavia laughed. "Only in fall." she assured him. "I'd have better luck reading this than I would a piece of music."

"Well, each to his - or her- own craft," Ny'n chuckled. "It's good that we are both dragonriders or we might not have ever met," he joked thinking of the different paths their lives would have taken.

"Yeah, I'd be married to some man I couldn't stand who's twice my age and a horde of children."

"And I would be playing for some hold somewhere, still trying to avoid women altogether."

"Well maybe he wouldn't be that much older, I'm weyrbred, if my grandparents had thier way, I'd be married though."

"Many women want a husband and children. Did you, before impressing?"

"Not really, I'd picked healing young and was more interested in studying than in boys. I hadn't given thought to marriage, by the time it ever crossed my mind I had Sawuth."

"I think having a craft makes a big difference."

"At least I had the chance too." Tavia stopped mid-sentece and her face fell.

"What's wrong?" Ny'n asked, his voice full of concern.

"Sawauth just said Calodith told her that X'amor won't be able to make it tonight."

**Shards! What kind of guy would cancel on a woman's birthingday? Well, he certainly hoped X'amor had a good reason.**

"Perhaps, his loss can be my gain," Ny'n said smiling. "Would you do me the honor of being my dinner partner, Tavia?"

Tavia smiled Ny'n was very kind. "Thank you Ny'n I'd love too."
