Enter!" Mosler said, not bothering to look up from the tide report he was reading when he heard the knock at the door. "Journeywoman Rynell asked me to bring this too you father." Orlan said handing his father the sealed message.

He looked up at the sound of his son's voice and took the message, "Good morning Orlan. Thank you." "Your welcome." He figured he'd get yelled at for asking his next question but he did anyway. "How come you went to see the Weyrwoman?"

Mosler flinched slightly at being reminded of his talk-gone-wrong with Traelyn. "I had a meeting." He opened the message and started to read. Seeing that he had hit s sore spot he pressed on. "The apprentices are saying you asked her not to search."

He looked up from the note and slitted his eyes at his son. "The apprentices heard wrong; now be quiet for a minute while I look something up and write a response." He turned his back to his son and started looking through a drawer. Orlan bit his lip. Part of him wanted to keep needling his father, but part of him wanted just wanted to talk.

Mosler turned back to his desk and folded the paper he had pulled from the drawer. "Here you go Orlan. Take this back to the journeywoman for me." Orlan took the note without a word. He'd decided that the journeywoman had sent _him_ because she was being mean.

"I uh, haven't gotten to see you much since I took over as Hallmaster, how are you doing?" Orlan's move to the apprentice barracks four months ago had made Mosler's life alot easier, not having to worry about taking care of the boy all by himself; but it hadn't made their strained relationship run any smoother. "Good, I saw the new apprentice, she seems to be settling in here. Didn't get a chance to talk to her though."

Mosler nodded, "I'm glad she's settling in. I hope you will be nice to her." "Why wouldn't I? She wants to be a dolphineer and the dolphins like her so she can't be that bad." he shrugged, he'd never been mean to anyone who didn't ask for it first.

"And your classes?" Mosler asked.

"Good." Though truth be told he was have trouble with the maps. He wasn't going to tell his father that.

"Good, good." Mosler said nodding. Did everyone have this hard a time talking to their kids? "Are you still liking the apprentice barracks? Master Metlick says you've got a good group of friends there." "They're okay, Wish there were more apprentices but the privacy is nice."

More apprentices... Yes, that would be nice. "We'll have more eventually." he replied, trying to sound reassuring.

"Are you going to allow more girls?"

The question caught Mosler off guard. "Of course, any girl who wants can apply; you know that." The Dolphin Hall wasn't like _some_ of the Halls. "Just asking, with what happened at Topaz some people might not let their daughters apprentice."

He smiled at his son, "Orlan, I really don't think people hold it against the Dolphin Hall that the Hold was hit by a hurricane."

"It's not the hurricane that worries me, we're so close to the weyr now, parents might not like it."

**The boy was starting to sound like his old man** Mosler thought wryly. "You sound like you've been listening in on adult conversations. Why don't you get that note back to Journeywoman Rynell, you're missing most of your class."

"Yes sir." Orlan hurried out of his father's office.
