Part 1 of 2
When Ankioth passed along the message, J'nev didn't even bother with
his boots or shirt. His naked feet padded silently down the stone
hall and a light draft against his bare chest made his hairs stand on
end. But he knew soon enough he would be nice and warm.
The door cracked open just far enough that he could see a large hazel
eye peeking out from behind it. "Is he still asleep?" he whispered.
"Yes," Aileyan let him in. "He's usually sound sleeper, but we still
need to keep it quiet," she kept her own voice low and quiet.
"Might be hard," the bronzerider grinned as he wrapped his fingers
around her waist and pulled her in for a thorough kiss. Shards, how
long did it take to get a child to sleep! He had been waiting for
this all sharding day!
"You better try, use the pillow, if you have to," Aileyan murmured and
pulled him towards her bed. Kjarliheth's green-glowing eyes were
visible from the ledge, with the curtain pulled aside to let in the
summer breeze.
"To do what, smother you?" he teased softly as he allowed her to lead,
taking the opportunity to imagine all the pleasant things he wanted to do to
her.
"I'll smother you, if you woke up my son," Aileyan replied.
"Well, I'll try to keep you quiet, but it might be hard," the
bronzerider said with a cocky grin, having no doubt in his ability to
wake half the Weyr if he really put his mind to it!
Since anything Aileyan could say was repeating her previous words, she
just jumped to the bed. She was no mood for words anyway.

"See," J'nev murmured in her ear as he wrapped his arm around her
middle, his knees tucking up behind hers, "he didn't even stir." In
fact, J'nev wondered if she might even be in the mood for another
round in a little bit.
"Mmh, good thing too," Aileyan replied. She had been drifting off when
J'nev started to talk. Having a warm body next to hers did feel nice.
"I bet it's annoying if he ever wakes up right when things are getting
good." The bronzerider wasn't sure what people did in that situation.
But it was a Weyr. They probably would just keep going!
"Ugh, don't even talk about it," Aileyan murmured. Did he had to take
that subject up? It was mood killer for sure.
"You know, I walked in on my parents once. I didn't even know what
was happening. I just thought they were playing some kind of game or
something," he chuckled softly as he remembered how innocent he was
back then. "I didn't realize until much later what I had done!"
"I never did," Aileyan murmured, "But then, they didn't sleep together
any longer back then."
"My parents definitely did. I mean, we hardly ever got real time with
my dad. He was always here at the Weyr." With his _other_ family. "Back
then, I guess I was so hungry for his attention, I couldn't wait until
morning to see him. At least your son will never have that
temptation."
"He's a weyrbrat, he has extended family," Aileyan replied.
"Yeah, but he'll never come running in to try to find his father: is what
I'm saying. I suppose that's the nice thing about not having one
around."
Except Ravyan had done exactly that with U'kaiah. For the little boy,
U'kaiah was his father, or closest surrogate possible. Aileyan didn't
voice any of this thought, just murmuring something obscure.
