Final post in a storyline
U'kaiah waited patiently, though the passing minutes were
excruciating. He wanted nothing more than to put things right with
Aileyan and hopefully get they on the path to mending their shattered
relationship. Despite the months and months of silence, he still
loved the little greenrider. It had taken a long time to worm his way
into her heart, and he would not give up on her so easily!
But as he stepped into the hall, she was nowhere to be seen. He
frowned, taking a couple strides down the corridor to try to peek
around the corner. As he walked, a sound caught his ear. A rhythmic
sound, like two voices talking at once. No, not talking. Grunting.
It was the unmistakable sound of two people behind a door having sex,
and he had heard that woman's voice too often to doubt just who it
was.
**Shards, Aileyan, how could you...** he thought with a sad shake of
his head. U'kaiah couldn't identify the man's sounds, but it didn't
matter who it was. She was doing this on purpose. Aileyan was trying
to make a point. She was trying to hurt him. He had abandoned her,
and she was having her revenge.
Aileyan let out a contented sound that was half-sigh, half-moan.
Whatever else she thought about J'nev, he was good for sex.
And the thought of U'kaiah hearing him banging his ex-girl just pushed
J'nev even further. As much as Aileyan wanted to hurt their former
Wingleader, the young bronzerider did even more so. **Now that
wherry's ass will see who the better man is!** He unwrapped her legs
from around him and set her back down on her own two feet. Still
panting from their exertion, he pulled his pants back up around his
waist and refastened them with a smile more like sneer. "Let's go see
his face."
Aileyan just nodded, articulation being beyond her capabilities right
now. Her face was flushed and hair escaping the braids.
J'nev threw open the door and drew Aileyan out with a possessive arm
around her waist. U'kaiah stood across from them, leaning against the
wall with his arms crossed over his chest though his manner was
unreadable. The younger bronzerider grinned his triumph. "My duty to
you and yours, Wingleader! Oh... I'm sorry, forgive me.
_Weyrleader_."
U'kaiah's jaw tightened ever so slightly at the sight of who Aileyan
had chosen to hurt him with. She certainly was using every weapon at
her disposal. But at J'nev's insult, his lips just twisted into a rye
one-sided smile. **Was I ever that young and stupid?** He probably
had been, he had to admit. "J'nev," he said with a slight nod of
acknowledgement, but his eyes fixed on Aileyan.
"Thanks J'nev," Aileyan gave the younger bronzerider a kiss in the
cheek before turning flint-hard eyes towards U'kaiah. "You wanted to
talk?"
U'kaiah nodded, betraying nothing of what he was feeling in that
moment. "I do, if you have a moment."
"Oh, I'm sorry, should I leave?" J'nev asked innocently, looking
between the two and feeling rather pleased with himself.
"Up to you," Aileyan shrugged, feigning indifference. Actually, she
kind of wanted him gone. "Won't be very interesting."
And J'nev did have his friends to get back to. "I think I worked up a
bit of an appetite anyway. See you tonight," he said with full
confidence as he took Aileyan's face in his hands and pulled her into
a very deep kiss, crowing inwardly at the fact the U'kaiah was
watching.
What they were doing was giving her a certain thrill, but she knew
herself and was going to feel bad afterwards.
When J'nev finally came up for air, he gave her backside a little
squeeze. "Until later, then." Turning to the older bronzeirder with
a grin, he wiped the moisture from his bottom lip with his thumb.
"Weyrleader," he said with an over exaggerated salute before turning
to strut his way back towards the dinning cavern.
U'kaiah had waited patiently for them to play out their little game.
He didn't even acknowledge the wingrider's phony attempt at respect.
His eyes were fixed on Aileyan's face. There was no hint of anger.
In fact, very little emotion registered at all.
Aileyan hoped he would look sad, or disappointed or even furiously
yell at her. She would know how to react then. That stony no-emotion
face just broke something in her and drove her crazy. Didn't he even
care. "Well?" she asked frostily. Two could play this game!
U'kaiah sighed and looked down at the stone between them. Now that
they were alone, his brow furrowed a bit as he chose his words
carefully. His voice was soft, but not angry. More resigned. "You
didn't have to do that, Aileyan. Use J'nev to hurt me, I mean."
"Who said I did that?" Aileyan was suddenly on defensive. Was she that obvious?
U'kaiah shook his head with a mirthless smile. Shards, how badly he
had hurt her. He knew that was why she was treating him like this.
She wanted revenge for the pain she felt. He understood. Perhaps
that was why he could not bring himself to be angry. "Aileyan, I have
loved you a long time. Please don't treat me as if I never knew you."
Well, wasn't he just twisting knife in the wound. "How come I'm not so
convinced?"
"Because you're angry at me," he said, standing up and pacing idly around her
as he spoke. "You feel like I abandoned you, just like you were always sure
I would." She had said as much several times. "I hurt you, and so
you feel you need to hurt me back so I can understand just what I did
to you."
"You're sharding right, you hurt me," Aileyan replied.
U'kaiah nodded his acceptance of that statement. "I know, and I'm
sorry. I never meant to. But I didn't leave you, sweetheart. I left
the Weyr for a while, but I was _not_ leaving you."
"You _left_ me," Aileyan replied angrily.
"No, I didn't leave you," he said with an adamant shake of
his head. "I would never leave you. I may not be with you physically
right now, but I think of you every day. I miss you every day. I
want to be with you every sharding day, Aileyan. My heart has never
left you."
"It felt like sharding abandoment for me," Aileyan replied stubbornly.
"I know I hurt you. But you really didn't have to do that, Aileyan,"
he said, pointing to the door she had just come out of with her weapon
of choice. "I already hurt every single day I am away from you."
"Well, I'm done waiting for you. I've moved on," Aileyan said,
although, she really hadn't moved on. If she had, she wouldn't have
used J'nev like that.
"Well," he said with a slight shake of his head. "I haven't. So just
who is leaving who?" It was obvious that the resolution he was hoping
for would not be coming any time soon. She was still just too angry.
"We'd better get back to the party. It's Kaiafel's big day, after
all."
"Yes, it is," and she didn't want to ruin it for him. "He was so
disappointed when you didn't show up last time."
"And you think I just didn't care?" he asked, genuinely wondering if
that was what she thought of him.
"I don't know what to think," Aileyan replied. At least that was honest.
U'kaiah nodded. It wasn't the answer he wanted, but it was what it
was. "Well... I do. I care more than I guess you'll ever know." He
looked back towards the door behind which his son was reveling in all
the attention. "We had better get back."
"Yes," she replied curtly and turned her back to U'kaiah, marching
back to the graduation party, her back straight as a pole and shoulder
tensed.
