Story 5 in a storyline
This day was Kaiafels. After Genith released her hold on Kalamath,
entrusting him to Tavia's care, the young graduate got the one present
he had waited all day for - his Da had come! U'kaiah had come for his
son, but as the celebration swirled around him, one person caught his
attention like no other.
The moment U'kaiah set eyes on Aileyan, his breath caught in his
chest. So many nights he closed his eyes and remembered the pout of
her lips, those deep hazel eyes. He could hear her voice as they
whispered to each other in the dark. U'kaiah could imagine the feel
of her body tucked against his as he wrapped her up in his arms and
listened to her breathing softly. Seeing her in the flesh was almost
painful. His first impulse was to take her up in his arms, kiss her,
and tell her of how much he missed her and thought about her.
But Aileyan had made it painfully clear that she no longer wanted him
in her life. Every letter he wrote her went unanswered. Every time
he hoped to see her, she always managed to hide herself away. It was
rare that he even caught a glimpse of her. So to be together,
standing so close as Kaiafel cut his cake was so painfully awkward.
Aileyan was there for Kaiafel. She tried so hard not to see him. She
didn't want a reminder of how much she had and still did love him. She
reminded herself how angry she was with him, how he had abandoned her.
She clung to that hurt, her face a rigid, emotionless mask.
As they were handed their cake, U'kaiah tried to move towards the
greenrider, just to exchange a simple greeting, but just as he made
his way around the circle of guests, she seemed to move around to the
other side. There was no way to follow her without actively chasing
her around the tables.
Aileyan did her best to avoid him, ducking away when he seemed to be
moving her direction. She was constantly aware where he was.
U'kaiah waffled between trying to get close to her and giving her the
space she so obviously wanted. He smiled and chatted with Kaiafel,
Ravyan and Tavia. He held Kaiavin once the boy warmed up to him. But
always his eyes searched out Aileyan. If just for a moment, he wanted
to talk to her, to reconnect with her. Once he looked up and he
caught her eye when she had been looking his way, too. He felt his
heart lurch with hope.
Aileyan gave him an angry scowl. She was running out of room in avoiding him.
His hope meltedunder the heat in her eyes. This was getting
them nowhere. For all their sake's, this had to stop. **Kalamath,
could you bespeak Kjarliheth for me? Could you ask her to ask Aileyan
to please give me a moment alone?**
}:Why?:{ his lifemate asked with a mental snort. }:She's right there
in front of you, and you know she's angry. You should leave her
alone. I don't want Kjarliheth mad at me, too.:{
U'kaiah rolled his eyes. **Please? I want to fix this so she's not
mad at me, and so Kjarliheth won't have reason to be mad at you.**
Well, that seemed reasonable to Kalamath, and so he relayed the
message as asked, though not until after a few flirtatious remarks so
the green would know where he stood in all of this.
Kjarliheth obediently relayed the message for her rider. She couldn't
remember why she was so angry anyway.
Aileyan huffed but she did consider it for awhile. **Fine, tell
Kalamath that I will meet his outside in fifteen minutes.**
She needed to make some excuses first..
Making sure Ravyan was okay and leaving her flit with him, Aileyan
walked towards the entrance to outside. She needed a breath of fresh
air to clear her head. She walking along the corridor and saw J'nev
walking towards her. She wanted to get back to U'kaiah, to make him
feel as miserable as she was. J'nev didn't exactly like U'kaiah either
and something like plan was forming in her mind. It was petty and
spiteful and probably little foolish. "Hey, J'nev!" she gestured to
catch the young bronzerider's attention.
When J'nev stopped, his companions also halted and looked back at the
greenrider. "Yeah?"
Aileyan walked over to him, stood up on her toes, graped his shirt and
pulled him down to kiss him on to the lips. "U'kaiah is here and I
want him suffer," she whispered, as if her throwing herself at him
wasn't hint enough. "Just play along, please, I'll make it worth it."
J'nev was shocked at her public display of affection, but he kept his
cool. Turning to look at his friends over his shoulder he said, "You
fellas better go ahead without me." He waited until they were out of
earshot before asking, "And just what do you want me to do?"
"Make him jealous," Aileyan replied. This wasn't actually any well
thought out plan, more like a spur of the moment cook up.
"I see," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. "And just how am
I supposed to do that?"
Aileyan felt like stomping her feet. Was he dense or just doing this
on purpose. "Some kissing and fondling where he can see us would be
good," she said with anger flashing in her eyes. She wasn't sure who
that anger was directed at.
He squinted his eyes though otherwise his face was expressionless.
"So you want me to kiss and fondle you in plain sight for U'kaiah to
see and you think that will get him back for all that he did to you,
is that right?"
"Yes," she replied curtly.
"Is that really enough for the way he abandoned you to chase after a
title? Shards, he was probably sleeping with Hygalia the whole time
trying to get his way into her Flight bed. You really think just a
little kissing makes up for the way he threw you away when he was done
with you? I sure don't." He leaned down to whisper in her. "Let's
remind him of exactly what he lost when he left you."
"What are you thinking of?" Aileyan asked.
