"She's doing fine K'dern, it's just her being an eleven turn old girl."
Tavia reassured the brownrider, after leave Rondera in the exam room. "She'll get used to it, I promise." she smiled. "And so will you."
"Are you sure?" he asked the healer. He still thought back to rushing the baby in here with what turned out to be just a nasty cough.
"It's just part of being a girl, she just didn't want to talk to you about it. Not much of a surprise. Most girls don't. I remember being the same way."
"So my baby girl is growing up at last," he said with relief. "When she went all quiet and wouldn't talk, I thought something might be wrong."
Tavia chuckled softly. "Whatever you do, _do not_ call her your baby girl in front of her friends, she'll never forgive you."
"That much I know," he said. "Baby in this case means Deralie, who isn't a turn yet. I think I can still call her a baby for a while yet."
"That you can. How is the little one?"
"She'll be one at turnover."
"In no time at all she'll be dodging your questions and overly moody I'm sure." she offered drily.
"Probably," he replied. "I just wish it were possible for her mother to see her grow up."
Tavia touched his arm. "I'm sorry K'deren, Vonalie was a wonderful woman."
"She was, I think I'll always miss her."
"missing her isn't a bad thing, Just make sure you remember that you still here and so are your children."
"As if Deralie would ever let me forget. She'd going to be the image of her mother, she'd got her coloring, all the way."
"You have her then." Tavia smiled.
"I guess I do."
"Wells, if Rondera starts acting like she isn't feeling well again, stomach ache and the like, send her back to me. I'll give her something to take.
Once she settles down things will go back to normal. except for the boys of course.
"I suspect that will be my headache, and not hers."
"Ah but my dear brownrider, thats part of being a parent. You could always have the meet her in your weyr. A large brown tends to be rather sobering."
"You speak from experience?" he asked.
"Sort of, my parents where crafters but they had friends with very large dragons. Some how we always ended up visiting when I wanted to go with someone."
"I'll bear that in mind. But it might be a while yet, I suspect boys are still a bit of a mystery still to her."
"Good to know."
"And once she starts there, then Kedon will be looking at the girls."
"Twice the fun. If you want me to "chat" with him, I'll be happy too." she offered.
"There's a turn or two before that happens."
"The offer still stands." Tavia smiled. It was nice to a father concerned for his children.
"And I might take advantage of it when the time comes."
