Corowal hurried over to Miranek. "Master? What is it? Is it Felyna?" He had received a message and it had sounded urgent one.
"I'm sorry to say it is," the healer said solemnly.
"Well? Don't keep me in suspence," Corowal said impatiently and worriedly. He may not love Felyna like she deserved and not like he had loved his first wife. But he did care for her and was afraid for her.
"As you know," began the healer, "This pregnancy hasn't been easy for her, and it is giving her a great deal of discomfort and pain, I'm also worried that the baby is showing signs of distress."
Felyna lay in the bed she was forbidden to leave, crying softly. She wanted nothing more than to give Corowal a healthy son to replace their sweet little Felwal. Her body though...was refusing to cooperate.
A wave of pain cascaded over her once more and she made a louder sound. Her hand clasped the locket at her throat almost as if it could save her. She was young, healthy...what was wrong?
"I think that the best thing to do, will be to move her to the infirmary, and for me to deliver the baby surgically, now." Miranek's tone left no doubt as to his opinion. "I know it's several sevendays early, but for the sake of her life, and that of your child, I really feel this is the only option."
"Are you sure about it?" Corowal asked. He took Felyna's hand and stroked it softly. He was aware how great the risks were in any kind of surgery. She was already so weak, would she survive it?
"As sure as I can be," the Healer tried to put a note of strength into his voice.
"Do what you must," Corowal said. He was having nasty flashback to his first wife's death.
"I have the fellis ready," one of the journeyman said softly.
"Then we'll begin." Miranek gestured to the senior apprentices acting as orderlies. "Please assist the lady, and we'll move her, and get her ready for this procedure."
Corowal watched helplessly when she was taken away to the infirmary.

Corowal paced the hallway outside the infirmary, waiting for the news. It seemed to take forever. Occasionally he saw a journeyman hurry out and in again. The way they avoided his eyes told him it was not going well.
"Milord," finally Miranek emerged. "The surgery was successful, but," his voice trailed off as he gathered his thoughts. "You have a child, a healthy babe, but I'm so very sorry to have to tell you that the lady, and your other child, they didn't make it."
Corowal wondered if month thirteen was some sort of bad luck -month, especially to his wives. Then he registered rest of what the Master had said. "The other child? There was two?"
"It was a very rare scenario, one of the babies was taking all the nourishment it needed from the other one," Miranek tried to explain. "It was why your lady wife was so uncomfortable, and why I needed to try surgery."
"Twins?" Corowal couldn't believe it. "And one died? Poor Felyna."
"Your son will need you, and a nurse to care for him. He's a strong child, clearly very healthy. I'm so very sorry about your wife and your other son."
"Thank you, master Miranek. Erassa has previous experience of the orphaned newborns so there should not be any problems," Corowal said and bowed his head, giving a moment of silence for his poor wife. He discovered that he did miss her. He may had not loved her like she had deserved but her passing did leave a gap.
A midwife brought out the baby, cleaned up and wrapped in blanket in Emerald Falls's colours. He knew Felyna had made it herself. The midwife gave him the baby and Corowal peered into the chubby face of his newest son. "Hello, Collyn, I'm your father. Let your departed brother be know as Walyn." He felt chocking and swallowed.
"I'll be back to check on him later," Miranek said after a moment. "My condolences on the loss of your wife and other son."
