Description: Chioneth lays her clutch at DFW.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 9 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: K'reyel, R'enh, Lenala
}:Rider, rider,:{ Chioneth's elegant tone was a gentle nudge.
Saibra shifted in her bed, clutching her pillow tightly beneath her head as her knees drew up.
}:Rider.:{ Chioneth's voice was firmer.
The Weyrwoman rolled to her other side, pulling all the blankets with her as she tucked them beneath her chin.
}:SAIBRA!:{ The senior queen's tone was a fierce snarl.
Saibra jumped upright in the bed, hair spilling in front of her face, "What? What is it? Tsunami?"
Chioneth snorted to herself, shifting her talons restlessly, }:No. I have already laid twelve eggs, you should come if you want to see the rest.:{
"What?! You've been clutching and you didn't tell me?" Saibra kicked her blankets off and quickly fumbled for a pair of breeches, a tunic, and her boots. There was no time for fashion as she slung a scarf around her neck and shrugged on her riding jacket.
The walk across the Weyrbowl was brisk in the pre-dawn light, leaving the mountain Weyr a light grey against the early morning blues and pinks that were just beginning to show.
"Have you told Erdenth?" Saibra asked as she trotted down the stairs inside the Hatching Cavern, now pulling her scarf and jacket off since the Sand put off enough heat to make the air comfortably warm.
}:I have, but I have requested no one else be here but you.:{ Chioneth said this while nuzzling an egg into position.
Saibra blinked, surprised. Chioneth was normally not very private about her clutchings, she'd never been a particularly possessive or angry Queen either when the Candidates came to touch.
}:I just wanted us to be alone.:{ The senior queen said, although Saibra couldn't help but catch a fleeting thought from her Queen, an image of Lenala and Vilarth in their final moments.
**Where did you get that image?** She asked.
Chioneth huffed, as if she hadn't wanted to discuss the matter, }:The firelizards share stories with each other. Little gossips.:{ She said the term with a mixture of annoyance and amusement.
Saibra settled on the ledge where she and K'reyel would stand together for the Hatching. "You got a gold egg in there?"
}:Perhaps, but I don't think so.:{ Chioneth said, without the slightest trace of disappointment.
The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman had been hoping for one, if only to even out Dragonsfall's numbers with Dolphin Cove. Not that they were now lacking in Wing power with the River Bluff transplants.
"Oh well then," Saibra said, there was no reason to be disappointed.
}:This clutch will be good for people so soon after River Bluff....:{ Chioneth said, }:The candidates that came from there will be happy to find lifemates that will ease their grief.:{
"I hadn't thought of that," Saibra trailed her fingers through the heated sand, they weren't yet as hot as they would be when the eggs were ready to hatch. "It will be nice to give the Southern Weyrs a celebration." After all, their last couple of conclaves had been nothing to get excited about.
Chioneth was quiet for a long time as she concentrated on clutching a particularly large egg. Once it was done, she slid it into place with the others, using her snout to mound some sand up around it.
"A bronze, I bet."
}:Or the world's largest green.:{ Chioneth huffed, stretching her tail out to relieve tense muscles.
"What would happen if you laid an entire clutch of green dragons?" Saibra mused aloud.
}:The males in the Weyr would have coronaries, I imagine.:{ The gold returned with a dry sense of humor that made Saibra smile.
"What about a clutch full of bronzes?"
}:_I_ would have a coronary. They get so clingy.:{ The gold said this as if she didn't covet their attention when it was time for her to rise and mate.
Saibra laughed, thinking her dragon was right. It annoyed her when bronzeriders started hounding her, as if her dragon going into heat meant that she was going to just jump in bed with the first bronzerider she saw. Perhaps she had done similar at one point in her life, but she was in a different place now.... **A better place.** She thought of R'enh.
"Bronzeriders do think they are superior don't they?"
Chioneth's massive haunches quivered as she passed another egg. }:Well, they are in some ways, but you can't let them know it, else it goes to their heads.:{
"Ah, I see." She couldn't wait to tell R'enh.
By the time Chioneth was finished, had made sure all of the eggs were sufficiently heated, and rolled aside one egg that she had called a dud, there were thirty-four oval jewels half-buried in the Sands.
"You made that look easy." Saibra said, coming out to give Chioneth a well-deserved eye-ridge rubbing.
}:Experience.:{ Chioneth answered smugly, although her eyelids whirled closed as she accepted the rubs from her rider. }:I will let Erdenth know the Weyrleader can come see the eggs.:{
"Thank you, darling, I am sure he will be pleased."
