One thing A'kua would never admit to was something he had suspected when he lost his virginity, and it had been reinforced in goldflights and with Ilyssia: He was a cuddler in bed. Ever since he had officially moved into Ilyssia's weyr and they had cemented their essentially married status, the greenrider had woken many a morning either being spooned by the bronzerider, or with her front pulled against his chest. That was one reason why A'kua had hoped Zeiranth wouldn't be too interested in chasing anyone but Gwynnyth; he would be embarrassed if that detail got out.
But here he was, half awake, pressed against someone who seemed to be taller than him with his arms around their waist. This person also didn't seem to be female. Confused and bleary, A'kua lifted his head to see if he could identify whomever he was snuggling so firmly.
First thing E'naer did when his consious returned was check on Eillispeth. She was radiating smug satisfaction, so all was well in that front. Next thing was to come aware of what his body was telling him. He didn't mind being snuggled at all. Without opening his eyes, he tried to guess who it was this time. Sh'lua? No, the body didn't feel bulky enough. This was some one shorter and much slimmer. He mentally went thru the blueriders he had slept with before. Most were either too tall or much brawnier built. So, she had picked someone new to him then.
His initial examination didn't tell him much, so A'kua lifted his head a little higher and flicked it to get his bangs out of his face. After a moment of letting his eyes adjust, he could see scarring on this man's left side, even on his face- Wait. The redhead stiffened in shock. He knew those scars. He'd seen them so often in his Candidate and weyrling classes, and when he had been taken to a remote location to scream himself hoarse. Fardles! He'd just slept with one of his _teachers_. **ZEI! HOW COULD YA?!** He'd tried so hard to hold the bronze back once he'd figured out the rising green had a male rider.
}:Eillispeth is a less scary green than I thought,:{ Zeiranth defended.
E'naer felt his stance change and opened his eyes, turning his head to look. **Oh, dear. Another just graduated weyrling, Eillie?** This wasn't first time she had picked up some who they had taught recently. It had to had something to do with familiarity. She had worked intensively with them for months and grown fond of them. After few months she forgot them when new class of weyrlings replaced those who had graduated. She had also always prefered big and strong dragons and bronzes just fit into that.
"Hello, A'kua," E'naer said with calm tone. **This could get awkward.** He needed to handle this carefully.
The wingrider had known this was a possibility; he'd thought about ways he might react if he woke up with another man, or how to avoid greenflights like this, especially after Z'then had been so flustered. But a pattern of thinking how he might react and then actually winding up in a situation where his planning was pointless had emerged in his life, and it held true once more. So the first words out of his mouth were "My arm's lost some circulation," followed by trying to move said appendage without tickling E'naer.
"Oh, sorry about that," E'naer said and gently got up to sitting position so the trapped arm was freed. E'naer pulled some furs to cover his lap. He didn't want to freak out A'kua further with what was perfectly normal reaction that happened every morning and every time he woke up from Mating Flight.
A'kua sat up, blushing brilliantly, not quite daring to look at E'naer, but uncertain he wanted to look at himself either. "Are- Is- I mean- A-Are ya okay?" he fumbled, fingers picking at the bedding.
"I'm fine," E'naer assured him with gentle voice. "I'm hardly a first timer," he added wryly. "How about you? This must be overwhelming for you. Your first Mating Flight and you won...a male greenrider."
"It's not that you're a man," A'kua surprised himself by blurting. "Ya were my _teacher_. There's a _line_ here." After a startled pause, he realized that really was the problem. He had accepted the fact he would, eventually, wind up with a man in bed; he'd worked with the sense of aversion that truth brought, and figured if that was the way of the Weyr, he'd better go along with it. But a teacher was not meant to be with a student, and the fact A'kua had graduated didn't mean much at the moment.
"I'm no longer your teacher," E'naer pointed out. "But you're right, it does make it this bit awkward."
"I did say 'were'," A'kua muttered, picking at the furs still. "I just- now what?" he asked a little helplessly. "Ya won'- the snuggle-thing's not gonna get out, is it?"
"What happens in Mating cot stays in Mating cot. That's the rule," E'naer assured him.
"Mm." Good to know. The wingrider's fingers slowed, then lifted to crack the knuckles. "So.... Now what?"
"Now, we get dressed up, say thank you for the nice flight and go our separate ways. We both had weyrmates to return to. You can burn off the rest of that dragonlust with her," E'naer replied. "If you were a bluerider, I would probably invite you for a second round," he couldn't resist saying that.
"Oh, please," A'kua grumbled, finding his clothing and getting up to grab it. His face was about as red as his hair, so he got dressed while he avoided looking at the older rider. When his cheeks felt cooler, he asked, "Ya decent?"
"Yes," E'naer replied. He was a quick dresser.
A'kua turned around, managing to make himself look at the older man, but he just couldn't bring himself to thank E'naer. Everything was just too awkward. "Glad you're okay," he said instead.
"Hey, don't worry about me," E'naer felt he was repeating himself with that. "It's you I'm concerned about. If you feel you need to talk with someone..." Well, propably not with _him_ all things concidered. "I can give you few names."
The redhead half smiled. "I know someone too," he commented. "Think I'll be okay. This's just.... weird. So I'll- Guess I'll go now."
"Take care of yourself," E'naer nodded. He was ready to leave too.
"Ya too." A'kua made to depart, but something made him pause and smother his accent. "Eillispeth flew well. She always does. Zei almost didn't make it." For some reason, the truthful comment seemed to make some of the awkwardness ease on his end. With a nod to E'naer, he opened the door of the cot.
"Thanks. She not easy. And he was first time too. He just won the bragging rights," E'naer grinned and bend his head so not to hit it to the door frame on his way out. The Mating cot was small and had low door opening.
"At least I'll only have to hear said bragging for three days."
"There's always that."
